GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Go check out my last post on this...
Here’s the link for you.

p.s. Just because it has 1GB of DDR2 doesn't make it a good card. If anything, it makes it worse... honestly, some laptop integrated graphics might actually be better than this piece of junk. :/

Aaron Patel81 said:That 5760 deal doesn't look too bad. Anyone else got card suggestions under $167? Looking for more recs 🙂. What's your take on that 4650 in the link above?

It's old news—the generation before the 5670. Specifically, the 4670, though the 4650 is just a watered-down 4670, which makes it even worse..
And it isn't worth $167 a dime. Maybe $3.50 if you're desperate at a retail store, but that's the absolute max I'd pay for a 4650..

Check out the performance gap here: 5670 vs 4670 (which beats the 4650)

And here's the 5670 (blue) vs the 4650 (last one)

Honestly, for $13, there's really no debate. The 5670 eats the 4650 for breakfast—maybe even two 4650s for breakfast—and still has room for dessert. Plus, it sips power like a tiny LED bulb👍

You thinking something like this, just used? Could you grab something better for $167?

326 pulls everything at once 👍
Under full load... though only benchmarks actually hit full load... games and stuff struggle 👍

A couple posts up there? My PSU is a Thermaltake MasterMax 420W.

And if I could? 😬 Wasn't really feeling it today. Just kind of quiet? 😁
Read that whole thing like twenty minutes ago and already forgot it? Seriously? xD

So they're saying the power supply efficiency is only around 70%? Really?

$5,850? Honestly, that feels like a stretch. I mean, it’d probably hold up, but who knows how it handles when you actually push it to a full load?

So what kind of power supply we talking about here...
Who cares if it worked before or if it’s just two months old? Or if you grabbed some random unit from Best Buy...
What matters is the brand and the wattage. 😬

I haven't really kept up with GPUs lately. My current card (GeForce 8800 GT) works just fine, so I haven't felt the need to swap it out. Haven't given it much thought, which is why I'm actually listening to your advice here. 🙂

So, you think grabbing the 4870 is the better move?

Yeah, something like that... that card is a beast. It absolutely crushes the 5770 in basically every category. The only catch is it lacks DX11 support, but if you've been playing on DX10 this whole time, you probably won't even miss it.🙂

electricranger17 said:I get it’s older. But hey, it’s a dual setup. Plus, looking online, used prices for the 3870 and the GeForce 8800 GT are pretty much neck and neck.

The main reason I'm eyeing that 5770 is exactly what you mentioned...

Alright, thanks 🙂

Why not just look at something like a 4870 1GB?
It'll gulp down power, sure, but it beats the 5770 in performance—and it’s still newer than the 3870.

You can find them for about $110 now—$267...
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
The 3870 dual is alright, I guess, but it’s ancient. We're talking 3xxx series tech when 6xxx is already out there... why bother? Just grab the GeForce 8800 GT instead. It’s newer, supports DX11, runs way cooler, sips power, and honestly? It absolutely rips.

It’s not even about the memory capacity... but let's move on...
Just grab a Radeon 5670 with 512MB and call it a day.

Whatever you do, don't accidentally buy thishd5550 just because it shows up with 1GB of memory and looks "cheaper" than what we actually suggested...

Same story here...

People used to buy junk based solely on the amount of VRAM, then they'd act surprised when it performed like trash because they wouldn't listen to us.
👍

I don't know... I've been mulling it over...
but honestly? It might be smarter to just grab the version with the 512MB graphics card and then toss in an extra gig or two of RAM instead...
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Maybe grab the 1GB version if they're running a full HD monitor...
Just saying. 🙂

darkowl72 said:come on, don't go overboard now... 😁 if that were the case, everyone would just buy that power supply, and there'd be no point in getting anything stronger...

I'm not exaggerating....
ran it through FurMark and 3DMark without any issues 🙂

The only thing I didn't do was Prime or those other tests because I just didn't feel like it..
I just wanted to see if it actually works and boots up.. 🙂

Anthony Ramos6 said:Will it hold if both the GPU and CPU are overclocked? 😁

No worries...
If my old EVGA 400W unit managed to handle my overclocked Intel Core i7 along with two overclocked GeForce cards, plus some hard drives and a mountain of fans...
then I don't think you'll have any issues. 👍

Honestly, those temps are great...

Once you start hitting the 80-90 range, then maybe ask if it’s okay.👍

The EVGA GeForce GTX Series ... it’s in a completely different league than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460. How can you even compare the two? 🤷
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
5670 obviously... you've got $170 if I recall correctly, the 512MB version, and then there's probably a $230 1GB version too (though why bother with 1GB unless you're pushing resolutions higher than 1680x920?)..
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
NVIDIA GTX 460 768mb (since you're short on cash for the 1gb version), if you can manage it,
otherwise just grab an HD5770

Check out some local shops🙂 prices are sitting around $15-$383

Did you even bother clicking the link in the ad??
If not, just click it and see for yourself...
For crying out loud, you're the one buying this, not me. You need to do your homework and know what you're getting into. We can point you in the right direction, sure, but we aren't going to call the seller ourselves to ask about the GPU...

The fan can probably be swapped out depending on the model, and you could always try lubing it up...

I think you can find those little replacement fans online; just ask the guy how the fan is connected—is it soldered on or does it have a plug? Anyway...
Just ask around, give them a call, and get the facts. 👍
