Take a look at some reviews, like this one. It's a low-end card, weaker than a Radeon 5670, even weaker than a 240 GT...

guy saw the amount of RAM and got his hopes up...

just like whoever is in this link..

I think there are 2 slots for the floppy drive

meaning 2 power cables for the floppy

It’s pretty standard stuff...
I mean, 23db? That’s basically silent...

If only we had version 2.3, then we'd be talking..
But since it's stuck at 2.2, it’s kind of mediocre.. Sure, it hits at least 70% under full load, but there are definitely better options out there...

I’d personally go with this one.. I know it’s pricey, especially now that they don't carry that old CX400 anymore..

This is really the only cheaper alternative..

We've got options here too... cheaper than that site.

The pricier version
The budget version

@ crimsonstag84... why not just grab a brand new 5670 512mb gddr5 for $200 👍
?

Take a quick look at the last few posts above...
Basically, everyone’s just recycling the same old builds, so you might as well pick from one of the setups crimsonstag84 and I already laid out for you.

You could grab some faster RAM at 800MHz—though honestly, who needs it?
Maybe sell off your current CPU and pick up something beefier... I think you can find a decent upgrade for around $300/$117 (like an Athlon 64 5600+ if I remember right, maybe even a 6000+?)
Or just go for a better GPU. I already mentioned the HD4830, 3870, 8800GT, or 9800GT...

Ask wiredmarlin5 about the 4830..
He’s actually one of the moderators here on the forum...

Here’s a snippet from his listing..
I've got the box, receipt, and a warranty valid until Feb 5, 2011. Picked it up at Best Buy. It's the dual-slot version.
Never overclocked it, just saw how far it could go. From stock 575/900, I hit 700/1000.

Price $160. Shipping via USPS.
Feel free to haggle a bit 😬

@ wiredmarlin5.. hope this doesn't break any rules🤣

Other options: 8800gt, 4850, 5670 (brand new for $600, maybe used too), 9800gt, or a GTS 250 (a bit overkill, but why not if you find one)?
PC build for $4000-$4500? in Desktops ·
Christian Vaughn3 said:Alright, you convinced me... I mostly stick to strategy games, the occasional shooter, and tons of Madden. My wife loves those RPGs like Dragon Age or The Witcher. So yeah, PC is definitely the move; I just needed someone to tell me so. 😉

I've got an Acer x223w 22", so that's what I'm working with for now... taking it one step at a time.

Thanks again for the help. 🙏

For those kinds of games, Xbox and PlayStation don't even stand a chance against you. 👍
PC is king for all that. 😉

I was thinking about another option, though it's a bit off-topic: do you think it's better to just keep this old rig for browsing and movies... and maybe grab a console like an Xbox for gaming instead? What do you think? Is the PC still king? I don't know the first thing about consoles.🤷

Depends on what you actually like playing...
In my book, PC is best, but you have to consider that an Xbox is more cost-effective...

The reason? Once you buy it, everything will run fine for years (if you get a newer model)... plus, you don't deal with that "oh, my graphics card sucks" nonsense. Just plug it in and go.

Why not? A lot of games work great on Xbox, but it's not quite the same...
I played COD 4, COD 6, and Army of Two... all good, but when you're shooting with a joystick, there's that aim assist—kind of like a built-in aimbot—where it helps you find the target. It's there because spinning an analog stick for ten minutes just to line up a shot would be ridiculous. It's not exactly "fun," but for sports games? Basketball, FIFA, Madden? It's perfect.

Then again, some games are Xbox exclusives and others are PlayStation exclusives, so you've got to see what catches your eye. You'll be limited to whatever platform you pick.🙂

Well, it’ll work as long as you’ve got a PCI Express x16 slot on the motherboard 🤷

But don't expect that CPU to squeeze anything crazy out of the GPU...

I grabbed some from eBay for a steal... like 2 or 3 bucks each... just standard 120mm blue LEDs.
But honestly? They're pretty much useless. Sure, they're cheap and look cool, but they don't move any air.
The ones I'm looking at—maybe $50 range?$20 Over here, you really want something pushing more than 50-60 CFM, whereas those cheap knockoffs usually sit around 20... 😢

Depends on where you shop...
Is it really that hard to check a site like Best Buy?

wiredmarlin5 said:If you can't afford a decent CPU, don't bother with dual GPUs either. 😛 Just kidding—it's really just that you're lacking the raw power... so there's zero point in pushing SLI or CF that hard.

Just wait until I hit the jackpot and grab an Intel chip. 🤣

wiredmarlin5 said:Once prices for the HD6850 and GTX 460 settle down in a month or two, grabbing a dual setup for CF or SLI would be a total win for anyone rocking decent motherboards and an i5 or i7 processor.

but with those old x4 B50 processors?😛
we're basically smelling smoke here.😁
