9990 😬

I honestly think a 6990 could give it a run for its money. Not quite double, but pretty close 👍

stormywolf39 said:Based on the benchmarks I'm seeing, the 6850 might actually sit right next to the 460 1GB, while the 6870 looks like a slight step up from the 5850... prices will probably follow that same pattern. Honestly? I think I’ll just skip this whole generation. My 4890 is still holding its own, and there's no way the jump is big enough to justify the massive price tag they'll slap on the 69xx series.

No point in upgrading..
Don't overthink it... my 4890 still handles everything easily. Sure, these new cards are better, but not "pay double the money" better...

I've got a 5770 and I'm sticking with it for a long time...
And when I finally do decide to upgrade? I'll just toss in another 5770 and call it a day. 👍

So, word on the street is that the high-end tier—you know, like the old 58*0 models—is shifting to the 69*0 series now. And apparently, the 68*0 is just taking over for the 57*0 line? Or something like that.
If that 6870 finally drops down to the level of a 5770—but packs the specs of a 5850 or 5870—then I know exactly what's finally replacing my ancient 4850. 🙂

Maybe we should actually learn a thing or two about these cartridges? Specifically the 6850 and 6870 models.
Click.

So the 5770 and 5750 didn't exactly transform into 6870s and 6850s? Really? 👍

Whoa, that's pretty high. O.o
I had my unlocked x4 running at 3.4-3.6 GHz... and it sat around 40-42...
Now, with my x4 unlocked at 3.1 (just like your Phenom X2 550 BE), I'm hitting 36 degrees with the fan at 1000 RPM.

William Taylor18 said:Hey everyone! I'm looking to grab a new cooler for my Phenom X2 550 BE, which I've got pushed to 3.6 GHz. My current Freezer 64 Pro is driving me nuts—it's loud as hell because it's constantly spinning north of 2000 rpm, so it's gotta go.
I've been eyeing the Cooler Master Hyper 212 +, and from what I'm reading online, it's supposed to be awesome.

Just wanted to get some advice. Is that a solid choice, or is there something else in that price range that's actually a better "best buy"?

Thanks!

If your freezer is hitting 2k rpm... what kind of temps are you even seeing???

Either go Zalman Performa (has that stupid "cqnx quiet" name lol) or the Hyper 212 +..

Personally, I'd go with the 212+ since you can run a push-pull setup on it..
Not so sure about the Zalman.

Austin Rodriguez41 said:You mean 5770->6870? 😉

Nah, I was thinking 5770 > 6770, but some sites say one thing and others say 6870..
I mean, you see all kinds of nonsense on these forums... I was just using that as an example of how messy everything gets...

Best to just wait and see. Everything else is just people talking out of their asses on the internet...

Expect some rebranding, new chips, and all sorts of shuffling around... basically, they'll turn a 5750 into a 6850 just to mess with people who don't follow hardware closely, while a 5770 might just become a 6770 with a tiny performance bump, ofc...
but we won't really know anything until the cards actually hit the shelves and the reviews and those lame little benchmarks start dropping. 👍

Wasn't that a total rip-off $300 for a 1TB drive?

analogpuma54 said:Whoa, you're quick... anyway, maybe move this whole thing over to a new thread? Not sure though. One last question: what's the total damage on this?

I'd say it's around $1600.. complicated, check www.google.com
$4800 plus whatever peripherals you want (starting at $30) since everyone has different tastes. I already threw out some ideas, but hey, pick what you like 👍

Hey everyone...

So...
I've sent plenty of packages before and everything went smooth... somehow...

But I've got a question. I want to ship my PC using the original box it came in via FedEx...
Do I actually need to wrap the whole thing, or can I just tape it up? And where am I supposed to put my name and address??

silenttrucker14 said:Man, I wish I had some actual cash on hand. I'm stuck buying everything on credit right now.

With that kind of money? You can't buy anything worth it. Why not just find someone heading to the store before $167,
offer to put their stuff on your tab? They give you the cash, and then you can actually go pick up something useful with it...

Did you boot into Safe Mode and wipe the old card's drivers first?
Then swap in the new card and install its specific drivers?

Even so, shouldn't you at least post a photo?

urbanhawk85 said:Is there actually a difference when you're looking at the same chipset—say an AMD Radeon—but from different brands like Sapphire Technology, VTX3D, or ASUS?😕

Exactly what Casey Long2 said. But honestly, the performance gap isn't even that big. They’re all pretty much cut from the same cloth—maybe a 2 or 3-degree difference in temps if you count the vapor chambers or Hawk models versus the standard HD 5770 coolers. Does it even matter?
