Nathan Reyes59 said:You're looking at examples that are way too pricey. Use these instead. Check out www.procurement.com. Any idea where I can find these cards at a better price? Any leads on cheaper retailers?

NVIDIA GTX 460 / NVIDIA GTX 560?
So, which one? The HD6850, 6870, or the 6950? Tough call.

Just grab whichever one’s cheaper and you can't go wrong. Seriously.

Ugh, he's just hunting for the cheapest models out there. I mean, is it even worth it? You won't get any decent airflow if you drop $300 or $500 on this.$233 Paying extra for some nonsense just because they claim they're "better" when all they really did was bump up the core clock? You can easily tweak that yourself once you get home and plug the card in. Why bother?

Only go for the Twin Frozr or Gigabyte models with heatsinks like the one pictured. Seriously. They’re quiet as hell and actually efficient—definitely worth the extra cash. $33 More... in this case?
Any info on this?
EVGA ATI Radeon HD6870 1GB GDDR5/256-bit, PCIe, CRT (adapter)/DVI-I, DVI-D/Display Port/HDMI/HDCP, GBT Fansink (GV-R687OC-1GD) $507
Check this out. Looks like EVGA is dropping an overclocked version of the ATI Radeon HD6870? Interesting. Anyone else keeping an eye on this one?

Check out this link for some twin fan setups. Pretty decent selection, right?

Check out this link to some twin fan setups on Google Images. Pretty cool, right?

for $207 you've got an HD5750 which is better, but for $23 you're looking at a GTS 450 that absolutely crushes the Asus Nvidia gt 240... though in that same ballpark, there's the HD5750...

I mean... who knows what kind of junk you'll actually end up with on Craigslist?

And honestly, I don't get this whole "saving money" thing on a power supply. If you grab some cheap, off-brand unit, isn't it just asking for everything to fry?
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Look...
whatever works for you...

I can try to hunt down a GPU with a warranty if you really want one, but if not, I don't care either way. Same goes for the power supply—I can sort that out too (though most of those won't come with a warranty anyway)...
You just gotta tell me what you're thinking.🙂
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
My power supply is gone... sold it.
If you're looking for the Bluestorm 2, then fine.🙂
I can make that happen for you.🙂

Look, I'm telling you again, where on earth did you read that an HD5770 goes for $1,400? I know where people get those numbers from, but anyone can list a phone for $167 more than its actual value—that doesn't mean the phone is suddenly twice as good just because I'm selling it at that price. Anyway, I already told you they're available for $890...
http://www.google.com/search?q=hd5770&x=0&y=0
And it’s not even that much better; it's basically in the same league as the HD4850, just slightly better since it supports DX11.

Roger Phillips82 said:If the power supply is too weak... if I slap an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 in there, could it fry the card? Or just the PSU and maybe something else? Because if it's just the PSU, I don't care—I was planning on buying a new one anyway...

Who actually knows...
You might get lucky and just have the whole PC pop and die. Or you might see smoke and hear a death rattle. Then, when you try to fix it with a new PSU, you find out the surge took out your GPU, your hard drive, your RAM, or who knows what else... 👍

Go ahead and gamble with it...
Or go for it if you're really feeling desperate. 🤷

If you aren't sweating the cash, just grab it. It's a solid deal. 👍

Also, check this out from Newegg

http://www.newegg.com/product_info.php?c...oducts_id=4592
http://www.newegg.com/product_info.php?c...oducts_id=8575

p.s. Why on earth would you pick up a card from $473 with only 768MB of RAM when you can get something similar for $1100, plus you have this one right here for that price http://www.newegg.com/product_info.php?c...oducts_id=8826

Or, if you're dead set on 768MB, this would be my top pick http://www.newegg.com/product_info.php?c...oducts_id=9112 because the cooling is way better and the stock clock is slightly higher...

Nah, why waste cash on extra wattage you aren't even using? You need 400W, but make sure it's actually decent... what you listed is high-end, but overkill for you. If I were you, I'd just grab the budget-friendly choice here KLIK

And if you want something mid-range—but still super reliable—go with this KLIK.

She could probably pull it off... but the real question is how long it would last before dying on me.
The power supply has enough juice for something like that...
It’s just not exactly high-end gear, if you know what I mean.

"More than 70% efficiency at typical load operation"—yeah, okay. Not exactly a groundbreaking achievement... maybe for a budget office PC, but definitely not for a serious gaming rig.

Not sure what other models you're eyeing...
But hey, here's some stuff to look through 😁

ms 👎

The only decent MS unit is this one
That MS 400W, the FSP400-60APN? It's just a rebranded Fortron, which is actually decent enough if you aren't trying to build a high-end rig...

Anyway, MS is total junk. That's why the power supply costs less than a couple of burgers at Five Guys..
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
No joke...
I’m telling you, a Fortron Bluestorm paired with an Radeon HD 4850 is $250 pure bliss 🙂

And if you're living in Chicago, it's even better 😁 than I can say

👍

If you ask me? Just grab an older model with better specs and call it a day...
Don't waste your cash on something brand new. Why throw money away? 🙂
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
The 5670 is great for $150, but honestly? Compared to an HD4850 or a 5770, it’s absolute garbage. 🙂

Maybe aim for something like a GTS 250 instead? Pair it with an HD4850 and a decent power supply. 🙂
The 5670 is definitely a step up from the 4650... but hey, if that's enough for you, go for it. 🙂
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
The price on that GTX 460 is solid right now, but honestly? It’ll probably just keep dropping the longer he waits. Some people are still out here acting like it's liquid gold—like that guy trying to flip a 5850 for $467 when you can grab a brand new 1100 for 😁... 👍

I could always just tune up a 4850 1GB for about $183... 🙂
with a warranty included. Think of the savings, haha
Or I could just slap a front panel on it and call it a day. That puts him at $250 and he can finally just relax 🙂

Roger Phillips82 said:My bad, Bryan Evans77, missed that... Let me take another look. I’m really gunning for that GTX 460 because it’s such a solid card for $233 and the new ones are sitting at $1400...

Check everything out first, then give me your take.....

The GTX 460 isn't actually *that* amazing (it was, but newer, faster stuff came out—I have one myself, so I know what I'm talking about 😁), and current prices are around $300.. (those $1400 ones? Just old stock they couldn't move, and since they paid full price to companies like Best Buy $333, they can't drop the price without taking a hit...) ...

Just upload your pics to a site like Flickr, you could even use Facebook and just link the image, or try www.imageshack.us or www.pohrani.com

@James Castillo8/">@@James Castillo8, well, you can always haggle, it just depends on how lucky you get 😁
I snagged an Antec TP3 650w for $33 👍
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
James Castillo8, you're missing the point here...
he's got a GTX 460 for $233 which he already picked up.. plus he's got cash for the PSU, but only $50..
we're just trying to find any way to squeeze this into his budget 🙂

if there’s absolutely nothing labeled on the power supply, it's probably junk
like, seriously, no sticker, no brand name, nothing 👎
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Depends on the brand... 🙂
Give me the exact model and manufacturer listed on the power supply—you know, what's actually printed on that sticker.

Ugh... my bad, I linked the wrong thing. My computer just froze up on me... but looking at it now, what I actually meant to link isn't even what I'd suggest for him...

Thanks for catching that. 👍
