Alright, we get it—you’re making a point, no need to overdo it.

Mark Webber will eventually step aside for Sebastian Vettel whenever necessary, acting just like a dutiful little assistant.

Yeah, the penalty on Verna was way too light given the infraction.

But it’s not surprising. When they hand out the bare minimum for an obvious rule violation, it gives the stewards an excuse to stay hands-off when things get more subtle.

Man, oh man...

A little bit right, then a little bit left.

It’s always someone else's fault. Don't take this as a jab, just something worth reflecting on. For your own sake😉
What happened with Kimi was just a plain mistake. I've spun out like that myself without intending to screw over Alonso. Same goes for Kimi. At least, that's my take🤷. I like Alonso; if he's better, let him win, just like anyone else. But saying something like this🙂

Did I ever suggest Kimi did it (on purpose) to mess with Alonso?

Megafacepalm was referring to losing the car twice.
First, he went wide, somehow avoided a spin, and then managed to slide right into the gravel trap like a complete amateur.🙏🙏🙏
Just like Massa at a rainy Silverstone in '08.

Like I said at the start, the reason Alonso was over a second off his pace during Q3 was simply because he had to navigate a section of the track under yellow flags.

That’s really it.

The main rival fell behind. 👋

A clear path for Fernando to reach the podium. 👋

Mission accomplished. ☕

Let me point back to this specific part of Alonso's statement made right after qualifying:
“What can I say, other than get angry about being unlucky? The yellow flags came at the worst possible moment, when I was coming into Turn 14. Up ‘til then, my lap was great and there was every chance of setting the fourth fastest time of the day, which would have then seen me start from third on the grid

Raymond Anderson4 said:I don't know...Sebastian Vettel must have seen him too late. By then, it was already too late to move off the racing line, so he just did what he had to do. It’s a bit tricky when you've got the rear end of the car hanging out over the ideal line, isn't it?

So, both Vettel and Red Bull Racing should take the hit here. Shouldn't the team have used the radio to warn him about what was happening behind him and let him know a faster car was closing in?

Just like the penalties handed out to Pic and the Marussia F1 team:
Fact.
Car 25 impeded Car 4 between Turns 15 & 16.
An offense involving a breach of Article 31.7 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
Decision?
A reprimand for Charles Pic and a $5,000 fine for the Marussia F1 team.
Reasoning?
The driver clearly missed the incoming car, and the team just didn't give him the heads-up he needed. Why wasn't he warned?
How close was Car 4?

The official FIA documentation regarding the 2012 season is now available online. It covers everything from technical regulations to specific race decisions. Useful for anyone looking to verify the rulings from that year. Stewards Decisions, Document No. 25.

Even if we consider that Pic's violation was far more trivial, and its impact on the final result was completely insignificant?
It happened during FP3.

Entering the turn, car number 5 is on a hot lap, while car number 1 is crawling along the racing line. It's pretty obvious, isn't it?

Everyone else (some by a huge margin) improved their times in Q3 compared to Q2. Based on his Q2 pace, Alonso should have been starting 4th.
Wasn't he running Q3 on his Q2 tires?

Were you even watching qualifying? 😁

stormybadger8 said:He was fighting for time in Q1 (I think it was on the medium tires), and then again in Q2 (likely another set of mediums 🤷)...

It's entirely possible he didn't have a fresh set for Q3.🤷

And you? Did you watch qualifying?

Tires? What are you talking about? 🙄

Alonso had to lift during his fast lap because of the yellow flags shown after Raikkonen went off at Spoon.
That alone cost him over a second.

Everyone improved their times significantly in Q3 compared to Q2. Based on his Q2 pace, Alonso would have started 4th eventually.
Was he running on those old tires from Q2 during Q3?

That single lap in Q3... it really gets my blood pressure up.

Were you even watching qualifying? 😁

Bernie can't just go around handing out penalties like that.

Imagine penalizing the only Japanese man at the US Japan Grand Prix. Especially a guy who just put in such an incredible qualifying performance.

Just wanted to point out the absolute disaster caused by that Finnish free rider.... 🙏🙏🙏

Even Mass wouldn't have pulled a stunt that idiotic. 🙏🙏🙏

During a wet race, no less. 🙏🙏🙏

He was supposed to slow down during that specific stretch where the yellow flag was displayed.
But he didn't.

Just like Jenson Button wouldn't have, for instance.

Raymond Anderson4 said:Jenson Button is behind us. If a penalty lands on our side, maybe we could use it? Then again, I’m not sure I want that, since Kamui Kobayashi and Romain Grosjean drove exceptionally well today. They earned a solid finish.

All they actually earned was a penalty for failing to slow down under the yellow flags. ☕

Actually, Romain Grosjean should probably take two penalties—one for every single infraction.

Raymond Anderson4 said:Lotus looks insanely fast in race simulations... specifically Romain. But given how things are shaking out in the championship, Romain might end up having to move Kimi out of the way for a second race in a row. 🙄

If they find themselves in those positions, Grosjean will definitely pull ahead of Kimi.
