What can you do? They’ve got the fastest car on the grid, but they're absolutely clueless, and now they’ve even lucked into this massive stroke of fortune ☕
and if they blow this one, we should all just collectively quit racing and move to tractor pulling, because missing this would be an absolute disaster.🤦

It’s all fun and games until tomorrow comes.

Or more specifically—until those Red Bulls finally hit a wall. 😁

honestly, this is actually great news for Red Bull, mostly for Vettel😁ž

If Massa and Alonso keep consistently finishing ahead of Webber like this, we're done😁

McLaren is toast🤣

if the standings stay like this:

Vettel 25
Alonso 18
Massa 15
Webber 12
Button 10😁
Hamilton 8

here's the table:

01 Lewis Hamilton 153
02 Sebastian Vettel 146
03 Jenson Button 143
04 Mark Webber 140
05 Fernando Alonso 116

one more race like Canada and the McLaren duo is history. My only fear is Massa or Webber screwing something up.😢

That was my first thought too.

It’s clear Red Bull is still the fastest on track, but now Ferrari has wedged themselves right between them and McLaren.

But seriously, how bad do you have to be to let the Italians dictate your strategic progress? 🙏

I have to admit, that last Vettelov sector was absolutely phenomenal. 🙏🙏🙏

It's a disaster. The asphalt is gone, every single track element is stripped away, and everything is just overgrown with weeds.

The only thing suggesting anything even existed there a few years ago is the lack of trees.

Looks straight out of Chernobyl.

A total dis-as-ter. 👎

I had no idea they’d gone and permanently ruined the old Hockenheim like this. 😢

Fernando has been shamelessly robbed twice now. At this point, he could easily be sitting on about 25 more points than he actually has.

Lewis Hamilton should probably be facing a deficit of at least 30 points. His infractions just don't seem to get penalized; he gets a mere warning for the third time, whereas if anyone else pulled those same moves, they’d be hit with a penalty immediately.

The officiating in the last two races has been nothing short of a disgrace.

maminho style FTW🙂

What’s the forecast for today and tomorrow?

Felipe Massa grabs second

Lemme guess... they're the only two on the track. 🙏

Is it because they're testing the car in heavy rain? 😕.

It might sound crazy, but free practice sessions exist for exactly this kind of testing. 😲.😲.😲.

EDIT - Intense first set, tied at 21-21. 😳.

maybe not identical, but perhaps higher than usual, providing extra downforce at lower RPMs or while cornering 🙂
or maybe they just maintain a lower speed with higher RPMs through the turns to compensate.

But then again, much like Red Bull, that kind of setup is usually reserved for qualifying so the engine doesn't blow up prematurely, wouldn't you agree? 🤣🤣🤣

Hmm, yeah. So I assume those reports about a "special engine map allowing for constant exhaust pressure" are nowhere near the truth.

The Germans really know how to do it right

I mean, their anthem literally mentions "women" and "wine." 🙏🙏🙏

mistybear87 said:Are you suggesting that there's a constant exhaust pressure being maintained, regardless of how high the engine RPM actually climbs?
Does anyone else feel like the blown diffuser is essentially receiving a constant, steady stream of gases? It seems to maintain its efficiency regardless of where we are on the track. Wouldn't it be interesting if that airflow remained perfectly consistent through every turn?

I think this is being misinterpreted.

Exhaust pressure—and flow for that matter—can't stay constant regardless of engine RPM. Those two values are directly proportional.

That’s exactly why rally cars use bang-bang anti-lag systems.

Michael Lee4 said:The moment it happened, I thought, "there's no way he can do that," and I assumed Alonso would just hand the position back immediately. He didn't. I follow enough racing to know right away that wasn't allowed. They could have told him to give it back himself, or better yet, Alonso could have just done the right thing on his own.

Amen. First, Massin's situation at Monaco last year comes to mind. During an overtake attempt, he cut the chicane exiting the tunnel, but corrected himself after Tabac and let the damaged driver through.

Then there's the fact that Alonso—along with Hamilton—doesn't seem particularly inclined to step aside for a driver they just bypassed by cutting a corner or a chicane.

It looks like I wasn't the only one who missed the race. 😁

Since Vettel is clearly the superior driver here, the solution is actually pretty straightforward.

Ditch Webber and bring in a real number one.

It’s just like when McLaren brought in Kovalainen so a young, fast Hamilton could focus on clinching the title.

The current vibe feels a lot like McLaren 2007, especially with this Horner—the one who basically said, "I didn't have time to tell him we put new parts on the car."

He'd lose even the most loyal followers. 🙏

These red-and-white fools are never going to win a championship, at least not with this lineup. 🤦

And it’s like Webber is practically begging them to kick him out. 🙏

Honestly, what a load of nonsense and smoke and mirrors. 🙏>

You know, there’s actually such a thing as a stop-and-go penalty.

I can't help but wonder how this would have played out if Vettel had been right behind Hamilton. 🙂

I'm sure certain forum users—ahem—would be calling for Hamilton's head at this point. ☕

I don't recall the last time a blatant rule violation was so effective that it didn't just wipe out a penalty, but actually provided an advantage.

Even compared to Michael Schumacher at Silverstone in 1998, this looks like child's play. 😁

Hamilton passed the SC—though honestly, was that before or after he hit the track? Not sure. But Alonso definitely, 100%, passed the SC on track once it was out there.

So, by that logic, Alonso is the one breaking the rules.😳

How? Why? Does it even matter?

There have been races where it’s literally like this:
Driver A crashes, limps onto the grass in a totaled car, and tries to make it to the pits.
A few drivers blast past him under yellow flags and dodge a penalty.😳

It's completely nonsensical. The guy driving a wreck through the grass is the problem anyway—he’s got zero chance of finishing, and there's debris everywhere. Plus, the SC has to be on track.

Same deal here. Hamilton is "guilty" because he slowed down and then eventually passed the SC.
But Alonso is also guilty because he passed the SC. And does it matter if he did it at low speed or high speed? What was his lap time? Does any of that actually count?
Not to me, because he passed the SC on the track.

Sorry, but in my book, Alonso is undeniably in the wrong. As for Hamilton, I'm not even 100% sure myself—I honestly don't know what the rulebook says about passing when the SC enters the track in a situation like this.🤷

I have no interest in debating who is at fault here.
Race control made their call.

That said—the penalty didn't fit the infraction.

LH took a hit, but when you look at the benefit versus the penalty, he came out way ahead.
Again—let's not get bogged down in who did what.
Let's talk about whether the punishment actually made sense.
