Stomach issues... what's going on? in Health ·
Typically, a gastroenterologist will suggest starting with an ultrasound before moving on to an endoscopy or gastroscopy. It’s the most reliable way to pin down what's actually causing your symptoms.

Did you end up seeing a doctor? What was the verdict?
Symptoms like these can stem from anything—gastritis, maybe even gallstones.

I dealt with something similar once, and it turned out to be my gallbladder. After the surgery, the pain vanished instantly, though my stomach is still a bit sensitive to certain foods.
Either way, I’d suggest being really careful with your diet. Avoid heavy, greasy, or sugary stuff, and just stay away from whatever triggers those symptoms...
Good luck.
How to taper off Prilosec? in Health ·
Hi everyone,

I could use some perspective here. Seven months after my gallbladder surgery, I’ve been dealing with intense acid reflux that hits my throat and tongue. My doctor prescribed Prilosec and told me once I felt better, I should take it for just one more week and then taper off. After six months on it, I finally felt some relief, so I started cutting back—moving from twice a day to once a day, and eventually stopping altogether. It worked for a few weeks, but then the symptoms came roaring back, seemingly even more aggressive than before. Now I'm back on Prilosec, starting the whole cycle over again. The pharmacist mentioned it might take another week for the medication to kick back in.

Based on your own experiences, is actual long-term progress even possible with Prilosec? It feels like I’m destined to be on this stuff forever. I know long-term use isn't ideal due to potential side effects and how it interferes with nutrient absorption. It feels like a double-edged sword.

How do you calm this constant acid rising into your mouth and throat? Has anyone else dealt with this? Did you manage to resolve it, and if so, how long did it take? I'm being extremely careful with my diet, but it doesn't seem to matter; the acid is always there.
Is this just a lingering effect from the gallbladder surgery? I'd appreciate any insight you can share.
Thanks.
Heartburn and acid reflux help? in Health ·
It’s constant, regardless of what I eat. Honestly, sometimes it feels even worse immediately after a meal. My doctor thinks it's just acid reflux. That burning sensation in my throat...

Anyone else dealt with this symptom? Curious how you got diagnosed, what the treatment looks like, and how long it takes to clear up. Is it something that eventually just goes away on its own? Thanks.
How are gallstones diagnosed? in Health ·
Post-gallbladder surgery, how are potential complications actually diagnosed? Specifically, how can you tell if a small stone has migrated from the gallbladder into the bile ducts after the procedure?

Essentially, I'm looking for a rundown of what kind of complications can crop up following gallbladder removal and the standard ways they are identified.
Has anyone here tried this medication, specifically following gallbladder surgery? Did it actually help with anything?
I’m a little uneasy about it, since the label says it’s primarily meant for lowering cholesterol. I know those types of drugs aren't exactly harmless.

My gastroenterologist didn't even bother checking my actual cholesterol levels before prescribing it. He just basically said, "Give it a shot, it's not like it's dangerous," and told me to see how I felt. It's for the issues I've been having since my gallbladder surgery.

Does anyone have any experience with this drug??
Dealing with bile reflux in Health ·
No, it’s not quite the same thing as acid reflux (GERD), even though people mix them up all the time.

Has anyone here dealt with bile reflux following gallbladder surgery? I'm curious about the symptoms and what medications you're using. Apparently, bile can flow "southward," causing indigestion, or "northward" toward the throat, leaving a bitter taste in your mouth. Some say it eventually settles down about a year after the procedure. Is there any truth to that? Anyone else going through this?
Living with OCD in Health ·
Amy Young12 said:What are the early warning signs of this disorder?
I know things like excessive cleaning are involved.
If someone just wants their house tidy—it bothers them if shoes are in the hallway instead of the rack, they hate seeing hair in the bathroom and clean it constantly, or they can't stand sharing a glass with someone else...
Or maybe if you were raised with strict standards of tidiness and eventually take it way too far, feeling like everything must be surgically clean...

Could that lead to OCD?

Only if it becomes excessive—obsessive, really. If a person repeats the exact same cleaning task dozens of times, or feels a surge of anxiety when something isn't perfectly placed, triggering a frantic urge to clean. There’s a massive distinction between being organized and having Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

What you described sounds like simple neatness. You won't develop this disorder just from being orderly. Don't worry about it.
Best way to swallow pills? in Health ·
Some pills can be crushed into powder or split in half, but others aren't designed that way. How do you handle those types? Also, any tips for swallowing those oversized capsules?
I suspect I'm not the only one struggling with this.
