How to sign up for Medicare in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Nicole Lee6 said:
I honestly don't know where to start with this one. It’s just one of those situations that makes you want to put your head in your hands and wonder how we got here. You look at the way things are being handled lately, and it feels like common sense has gone out the window entirely. I’ve been sitting here trying to process the latest developments, and frankly, it’s infuriating. It isn't just about one single error; it’s the systemic lack of foresight. We see these patterns repeating, much like when people try to ignore clear warnings from organizations like NOAA, only to act surprised when the storm actually hits. It’s predictable, yet somehow, we still stumble through the dark every single time. And don't even get me started on the bureaucratic red tape. Dealing with institutions that should be providing a safety net—think Medicare or even just a standard Bank of America branch—but instead, they offer nothing but hurdles and delays? It’s exhausting. You expect a certain level of competence, a baseline of functionality, and instead, you get this endless loop of inefficiency. I’m not trying to be cynical, though I realize that might be how it comes across. I am simply being realistic. We deserve better than this constant state of managed chaos. It’s frustrating to watch, especially when the solutions seem so obvious to anyone paying even a modicum of attention. But I suppose that's just the way the wind blows these days, isn't it? kaže:
I decided to take a little peek at my pension fund today—just out of curiosity, really—and I was met with this absolute nonsense telling me that I haven't selected a single certificate. Now, let’s get one thing straight: I am being incredibly diligent here. I use the exact same card for everything—my taxes, the IRS, even my Bank of America account (since they all merged their systems anyway)—yet suddenly, when it comes to this, the system acts like it has never seen my face before. How does it not recognize me? It's completely absurd.

Will we be facing that same old headache again? I’m talking about that inevitable mess where you can't run your tax software, your online banking, and your Medicare or Social Security portals all on the same computer at once. We’ve already dealt with this exact kind of technical nightmare before, and frankly, I'm not looking forward to a repeat performance.

I really hope it doesn't turn out that way. If it does, I’m going to be forced into buying yet another computer, and frankly, my wallet can't handle that kind of nonsense right now. 😬

It’s funny how things work in this country. You’ve got NOAA over here, and they aren't even asking for much—they just go about their business. But then you deal with Medicare, and suddenly everything changes. Apparently, they’re demanding some sort of notarized power of attorney just to get anything done. It’s one of those classic bureaucratic hurdles that feels like they're just making life difficult for the sake of it. 🤷

So, I called BlackRock today. Apparently, you have to fill out an access form on their website (I'd drop the link, but I'm told I'm not allowed to), then mail it in after signing it, and finally take it to the nearest BlackRock office within seven days. That’s supposedly all there is to it—they process it on their end, and then you should have access. That applies to people who already have a premium card; others probably have to go out and get one first.
Nobody mentioned anything to me about powers of attorney, notary seals, or registration.

I haven't looked into the healthcare side of things yet; they aren't usually quite that strict.

By the time I actually show up, you guys will have already sorted everything out. Great!
I love this exchange of experiences—at least I have someone to vent to.

Anyway, I just wanted to brag because my sales tax filing went through without a single hitch today. It's the first time nothing has screwed me over...
In a few days, my property taxes are due, so I'm really curious to see how that goes...

Thanks so much in advance!

I actually received an email with instructions on how to handle the renewal myself. It isn't complicated at all. I got mine about a month before the expiration date, so it's a little strange that you haven't seen anything yet.

I’m hitting a total wall with the IRS portal and the tax filing app.
Every time I try to log in, I get this error message saying NO CERTIFICATE SELECTED, complete with a red triangle and an exclamation point.😕
Does anyone actually know what might be causing this?
Everything was working perfectly fine until now.
I’ve tried following all the official user guides step-by-step, but nothing works.
I even went as far as wiping everything and doing a clean reinstall, scrolling through all the advice on these forums, and trying every trick in the book—still nothing.

When I try to access the filing system, I just get this: FORBIDDEN: You don't have permission to access /rs on this server.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON??

I’ll just throw some guesses out there for you to test. Personally, whenever I try to file any kind of form, something always goes wrong; just when I think I've sorted out the IRS stuff, the Treasury site freezes up, but here is what I'm thinking:

1. I have a major headache because my Windows version is 64-bit, while the Treasury software seems to prefer 32-bit, so every single update messes everything up for me. I'm no IT expert, so I'm explaining it this way—anyone who knows tech will understand, but unfortunately, I don't. You might want to look into that direction.

2. The Treasury site only works via Internet Explorer, while the IRS site only works via Firefox. They claim the IRS site works on other browsers too, but it certainly doesn't work for me.

3. Is it possible your digital certificate expired?

That's all that comes to mind right now.

Is it just me, or is everyone else struggling with the IRS and Deloitte?
I’m honestly losing my mind here. I usually submit my ID forms at the start of the month and send everything over to Deloitte by the end,
but every single time, something goes wrong. Just today, I tried to run a test submission for a Deloitte form, and the second the Java window starts loading, all I get is a tiny little pop-up with a red 'X' in the top left corner.

I sent them a screenshot, and some woman called me back to walk me through it—telling me to click here, then click there—but obviously, nothing worked. Eventually, she just admitted she had no clue what was happening and said she’d email me some instructions. Honestly, those instructions are so poorly written that even a software engineer from MIT would probably struggle to make sense of them, let alone someone like me who isn't in tech.
So now what? She basically told me she doesn't know how to fix it and that I'll have to figure out the setup myself. As if! If I knew how to fix it, I wouldn't be calling her in the first place. To her, the problem is solved because she's off the hook.
And what about me? 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Don't let it get to you. When I first started dealing with this stuff, it took me a few hours just to wrap my head around it. I couldn't figure out why we were paying such a massive amount of Value Added Tax at the end of every month compared to our old numbers—especially since import taxes usually just cancel each other out to zero, right? It took me forever to finally click.

Does this mean imports from overseas are tracked strictly through customs—meaning we don't actually list the tax liability or the input credit on the VAT return at all???

silverbadger said:You just fill out the application for the certificate issuance and then head over to the Department of the Treasury with your card in hand.

When I was renewing mine last time, the clerk mentioned that we could probably handle the renewal ourselves online by following the instructions on the Department of the Treasury website, but I honestly couldn't find those specific steps anywhere. So, I decided to just take a quick stroll over to see the lovely, polite, and super friendly staff at the local 😉
branch.

I actually received those instructions via email. It’s not complicated; it walks you through everything step-by-step.

Otherwise, my tax software was predictably down on Wednesday—shout out to my programmer, I guess, though God knows what he was doing. Then, I go to file more IRS forms on Thursday because it's the end of the month, and of course, it's broken again. I’m losing my mind; they change things practically every single day.

Right from the start, as soon as you load the form and Java kicks in to show you page one, it just displays a blank screen with a little "X" at the top. It acts like Java isn't even there or something. My programmer had to click around a bunch of different spots before it finally worked.

Brenda Gomez89 said:I really need some help here,

I just picked up a new PC running a 32-bit Windows 8 system, and I am hitting a massive wall with the IRS website. Everything works perfectly fine in Internet Explorer 10 right up until the moment I try to sign a form, and then I just get hit with an error saying the form isn't signed.

I’ve already tried installing Java 7.21 and then upgrading to Java 7.45, plus I have done a complete, clean reinstall of ActivClient multiple times now.
I can't even get the reader to load at all in Firefox.
Even when I actually manage to force the DLL to load in Firefox, things just break again—either Chrome tells me there is "no active reader" or Firefox claims "no certificate selected."

The IRS keeps insisting the issue is my certificate and telling me to call the Treasury, but I honestly don't buy it because this exact same card works flawlessly on my old Windows 7 machine using Java versions 7.45, 7.21, or 7.17. Now the Treasury is blaming the IRS application and Java, and they're just passing the buck back and forth.

Personally, I'm starting to think that their DLL just isn't compatible with Windows 8, or at least not fully.

Is anyone else actually getting the IRS site to work on Windows 8? Does anyone have a clue where I should even start looking for a fix?

Now you're making me nervous. I just got a new laptop with Windows 8, and I know the developer had issues with the 64-bit version, so he switched things over to 32-bit. Honestly, I have no clue what I'm talking about—this whole thing is Greek to me. We tried logging into the Treasury and the IRS sites, and everything seemed fine, but I haven't actually tried signing anything yet.

It would be a huge relief if the payroll software doesn't crash on the 31st right before the deadline.

ruggedmaker2 said:Look, we aren’t handing over a single thing unless the law says we have to. 😁
We’ve got lines of credit open at a few different banks, and honestly? They take every single 1099-MISC we throw at them.
I mean, if you ask me, I don't even think they look at them. They demand the 1099-MISC, we hand it over, and then the bank just sends back some mountain of their own paperwork for us to fill out anyway.
It really feels like these banks don't even use the forms for anything useful—it’s just some bureaucratic ritual they perform because they can.

For us, bonus 1 is mostly needed for bidding processes. But I have no idea what kind of data they actually input if they aren't using statistical reports—you know, the ones from Goldman Sachs?
IRS and Tax Filing Issues in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Hey everyone, I wanted to ask you something else—are you guys still filing those quarterly IRS statistical reports?
I’ve just been submitting them like I always have. It’s honestly not even a hassle since my software handles all the formatting automatically, so it doesn't take much effort. The only reason I bother is because the IRS website explicitly states this:

IMPORTANT! Since the U.S. Census Bureau discontinued the quarterly statistical survey for entrepreneurs and financial institutions, this group of business entities hasn't been required to submit quarterly statistical reports using forms TSI-POD, TSI-BAN, or TSI-OS-RE since 2013.

To facilitate the creation of creditworthiness reports—Bond1—which include data from quarterly periods, entrepreneurs may submit quarterly reports via the iPod form; these will then be incorporated into the Bond1 credit report. There are no set deadlines for these submissions; entrepreneurs can simply file them immediately before requesting the issuance of a Bond1 credit report.

My logic was that it would be easier to stay on top of everything and file them regularly rather than scrambling to catch up on all the paperwork right when I actually need a Bond1.

But today, a colleague called the IRS, and they told her that the quarterly statistical data isn't even necessary for issuing a Bond1 anymore.

So now what? Am I just wasting my time filing these for nothing? 🙂

Look, I can actually 😁
One reader (this ancient thing that’s probably older than I am, came with my Zelle account) handles multiple cards without skipping a beat. To be fair, I have zero clue which version of the Activision cardholder software I’m even running, but hey, if it works, it works.
Mind you, I’m still rocking Windows XP Professional on this machine. One single reader takes cards from Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citibank—everything just works perfectly.
Is it just that I’ve got a genius IT guy 😍 or what? 🤔

I'd say you're just lucky. 🙂
Everything seems to be breaking on my end constantly; I fix one thing, then something else stops working, and it just goes on in circles.

Carol Price4 said:I accidentally downloaded the new version and nearly lost my mind 🙂, so my husband just wiped everything and reinstalled version 21—and boom, both the IRS site and my bank worked instantly. I'm running Windows 8 and Chrome...

But seriously, like you said, they make it way more complicated than it needs to be—you'd think they were working for the NASDAQ or trying to launch a satellite.🤣

I was absolutely floored when I read this on the Chase website

http://com.chase.com/faq.html

Most existing SmartCard readers can be used with Chase cards. It doesn't matter whether you use our specific reader or one you received from another bank. The simplest way is to insert our card into the reader you already have installed and launch our service.

There is a possibility that the cards you use for online banking with another bank may have different technical specifications than those used by Chase, which could lead to driver compatibility issues. In such cases, you might not be able to use both services from the same computer.

That is the answer to question number 13.
Driver issues??? Seriously? Just coordinate with each other instead of making everyone else deal with the fallout. What am I supposed to do, buy a whole separate computer just in case? Am I expected to own a different PC for every single bank because these big shots can't agree on a standard??
IRS and Tax Filing Issues in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
So, I decided to fix things up the other day. I downloaded a new version of Java, and suddenly my Chase app stopped working entirely. I called them, obviously, and after sitting on hold for half an hour, they just told me to wipe out all the old Java versions and reinstall the new one from scratch.

Once I did that, Chase started working fine, but then Bank of America went totally dead on me. I spent another thirty minutes waiting on the phone with them, though the fix wasn't even that complicated—it kept throwing an error about an "unknown authority" certificate or something like that. I just had to click "OK," and now it’s running.

And don't even get me started on the fact that I access Bank of America using my Finance card. It took them a full week to figure out how to renew certificates at Bank of America; I actually had to drive down there twice with my card just for them to tell me: "You don't need a separate Bank of America card since you're already logging into Bank of America online using your Finance card."

Honestly, those IT people drive me crazy, acting like this stuff is child's play for those of us who aren't tech experts.

Nicole Lee6 said:I don't quite follow that part; what does he mean by offsetting it with the August sales tax? I didn't fully grasp your point there.🤷

Back in July, I ended up with an extra amount on my sales tax return—specifically under sections II 7 and III 3. The invoice was dated July 31st, but the goods didn't actually arrive until August. Because of that, the import report recorded it in August, while my sales tax filing included it in July.

The IRS called me because they noticed the import report for July was lower than what I reported for sales tax. Of course it was, since the shipment didn't land until August 2nd.

I explained the situation to them, and they said it would be fine since it’ll just balance out once the August filing comes through. Basically, the import report will look higher (since the goods arrived August 2nd), but the sales tax will look lower (because the invoice was booked on July 31st and filed with July's taxes).

That being said, they warned me to be more careful moving forward. They told me to book supplier invoices based on when the goods actually arrive, since that's what they compare. It isn't a huge deal for me since I only handle about five imports a month, but I hear some companies with high volume have no idea how to manage that kind of discrepancy.

Daisy mentioned she ran into the exact same thing.

ruggedmaker2 said:There's definitely something to this. But let’s not forget about the Intrastat mess buried in this whole headache.
From what I’ve seen so far, Customs and Border Protection reacts instantly to any red flags and starts demanding explanations. We actually ran into a situation like that just last month...

Then there's my other headache: we had this one supplier who was supposed to register for VAT in a certain European Union country but totally ignored it. I warned him, but he just brushed me off, claiming he didn't have to do it.
Now, I'm just sitting here waiting to see how many months it takes for that country to catch on. Once they do, he'll be calling me, claiming he needs to fix an invoice he already sent us—an invoice we've already logged in all our books based on the "official" documentation he provided (which was, naturally, wrong).

If nobody catches him despite all those reports we're sending off everywhere, then I'll know for sure that all this mountain of paperwork is just a massive waste of time.

In case this helps anyone out, I got a call from Customs last month. They were basically cross-referencing our Intrastat reports against our tax filings and flagged a massive discrepancy they wanted an explanation for.
The invoice was dated July 31st, which is when I naturally recorded it, but the goods didn't actually arrive until August 2nd. That timing gap is exactly what tripped them up. I ended up noting that the difference would be offset by the sales tax for August. Basically, the agent advised me to be extremely careful about matching the actual arrival date of the goods with my tax filings.
It isn't a huge headache for me since I only handle about five imports a month, but I honestly don't know how people managing a hundred of those per month cope...

Can I just ignore the warning and send the return anyway? Or am I stuck? What's the move here? Help me out!!

Mine wouldn't process today because my software was being weird and kept dropping the leading zero from the Tax ID. So, the company has an ID starting with 045xxx, but the program was just reading it as 45xxx. I ended up typing it in manually and it went through just fine.

Lili, I have one vendor where the ID starts with a letter followed by numbers, and it processed without any issues. I spent way too much time stressing over it before realizing they actually use an alphanumeric ID—I honestly thought it had to be digits only. To be clear, I'm talking about the actual Tax ID, not the state code.

Brenda Chase3 said:Just a quick heads-up for anyone who’s been dealing with those two weeks of headaches trying to file R-SM forms through the e-Regos portal: they just rolled out a new update. If you were getting stuck during the digital signature phase, that bug should be officially squashed, so everything should be flowing smoothly again. There is one lingering hiccup, though—it looks like there's currently an issue with printing the documents once they've been submitted (you know, when you try to save a copy or hit print after sending the R-SM). Apparently, the tech support team is already on it, though. I just got off the phone with a technician who confirmed they're working on a fix right now.

I honestly cannot believe this.
I only send in my handful of tax forms once a month, and lately, it’s never gone smoothly even once. Last time, I wasted an entire morning fighting some nonsense, only to finally get a woman on the phone—after an eternity on hold—to tell me I absolutely had to finish it today because of some processing deadline tomorrow. But the site kept throwing these stupid error messages at me! If the system is broken, why on earth would I care what some lady on the phone tells me about a deadline I can't even meet?

Or, my personal favorite: their legendary response, "Go ask your IT guy." As if every small business has a dedicated tech department on standby. I have to figure all this stuff out myself because I'm the one doing the work.

There was one time toward the end of the month when I realized I’d missed a specific filing for a contractor fee. I tried everything, but the site just kept kicking me out. I called them to see what was wrong, and of course, they claimed everything was fine on their end. I asked the representative if I could just file it tomorrow since it was the end of the month, and she basically told me, "No, you'll be non-compliant; it has to be done today." Well, how am I supposed to do it if your website is broken?! In the end, I finally managed to squeeze it through right before closing time—I think they finally got their act together.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting is to see if anyone has tried submitting the new sales tax filings yet. I want to know what kind of disasters are waiting for me next week, because I'm still grinding through this current batch and the deadline is Tuesday.
