Here’s another list—my absolute favorite Paul Simon tracks. I’m skipping his Simon & Garfunkel era—it was just okay for me—but his solo stuff? Pure gold.
1. american tune
2. how the heart approaches what it yearns
3. jonah
4. hearts and bones
5. graceland
That last one always hits me right in the feels—I can't decide if I want to dance or just sit there and sob.

Honestly, same. Let's start a petition—we need that boldscout72 blog! My own blog basically runs this whole site anyway.

Gomez—bring it on.

Everyone's tied up at sixth place—so they just sorted them alphabetically. Honestly, someone should just tell them to change their name to Aeth Disco.

Last week's audio scavenger hunt list

01.01.-08.01.2006
1 Calexico 76
2 Iron & Wine 52
3 Vashti Bunyan 49
4 Jets to Brazil 30
5 John Frusciante 15
6 The Notwist 14
7 Mark Lanegan 13
8 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 12
9 Björk 11 (seriously again? I really can't stand her)
9 The Cardigans 11

Vashti Bunyan just dropped her second album—thirty-five years after her first one🙂 Weird.
It took me months of dipping in and out before her debut finally clicked for me. But now? I'm obsessed. So maybe in a few months, I'll actually dig this new one too.

I actually lost a tooth eating popcorn once—some unpopped kernel wedged itself right under a filling and snapped the whole thing into three pieces. Two of them flew out immediately. I was totally screwed, too; it was the summer of '89, and the nearest decent dentist was probably somewhere in Chicago... ended up treating myself with whiskey for two weeks. Pro tip for the youth: DO NOT EAT UNPOPPED KERNELS.
My all-time best fail: at a corporate Christmas party, my heel snapped right in the middle of the damn dance floor... I went down hard, sprawling out in front of my entire management team and the board of directors. They still tease me about it to this day. And the worst part? I wasn't even drinking that night—I was trying to stay sober to avoid an embarrassment.
My top artists from last quarter, according to my Last.fm stats:
1 Neil Young 396
2 Morphine 298
3 The Beatles 215
4 Elliott Smith 181
5 Bob Dylan 165
6 Nick Drake 140
7 M. Ward 130
8 Calexico 124
9 Devendra Banhart 116
10 Tindersticks 113

God, this is boring.

PrittPen said:this Audioscrobbler bash isn't really accurate—most of my music (and what I play at home) is on my iPod, plus Linux doesn't count it when I'm grinding through finals prep. still, it makes me look like some dumb punk with broken teeth who's obsessed with Bob Dylan 😢it's funny how life hits you with accuracy when you least expect it 😬

I just look like a total schizo—I only listen to stuff on my laptop while at work, otherwise it's the player at home or in the car, and at work I have to be careful not to get kicked out of the office

1 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 40
2 Bjork 37
3 Against Me! 29
4 The Czars 25
5 The Cardigans 22
6 Elliott Smith 20
6 20 6 don McLean 20 8 The Jesus and Mary Chain 19 9 Johnny cash 15 10
8 The Jesus and Mary Chain 19
9 Johnny Cash 15
10 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

And I don't even like Bjork—just wanted to check one more time why. Just because.

Pklat said:Great description. 🙂 This town is to high society what Las Vegas is to tacky kitsch—it’s basically the global capital of both—and you have to realize it can just be fun. Besides, how could you not love a place where scenes like this happen: A bed in the middle of a room, some guy lying naked on his back with his hands handcuffed to the headboard. Sitting on top of him, equally naked, is naturally, Samantha. Suddenly, the cops burst in, and the lead officer—dead serious, handcuffs in hand—walks up to the bed and asks her bluntly: "Ma'am, would you mind removing your handcuffs so I can put mine on him?" 🤣

Personally, my favorite part about that show was that the women were constantly hooking up in bras. I binged the whole season during a summer rerun when we didn't have AC yet—it was brutal, and I couldn't fall asleep until, I don't know, 1 AM. It was actually pretty entertaining. But the following year when the new season started, it suddenly felt so cringe-inducing and stupid (okay, it was stupid the first year too, just funnier) that I had to flee the room if anyone else was watching—meaning my husband.
I have to admit, the only series I've ever followed in my life is probably the dumbest one ever: Roswell. And I loved it. 😳 So, the fact that I haven't watched a single episode of any reality show or soap opera in my life doesn't say anything about my supposed "good taste."

Like those new Strokes tracks. Total waste of time.

edit: And yeah, if instead of watching soaps and Big Brother I'm hanging out on this forum... maybe I should just go watch Big Brother. 😬

Great—so we get two extra years of diapers, heating pads, and listening to Buzzcocks on local radio. Fun times.🙂

Awesome. I can look forward to 11 years of diapers, heating pads, and the Buzzcocks. Being female definitely has its perks. 🙂

Anyway, three Bradbury stories I can actually recall off the top of my head:
1) The Sound of Thunder
2) Rocket
3) The Smallest Dragon
Not sure where that came from?

Maybe it was Neil Young — On the Beach.

Man, this forum has turned into such a tiny small town—honestly, I kind of love it.

NP girls—A Letter for Elise or something like that, can't be bothered to look it up right now.

It’s inevitable.🙏 🙏

@gentlepuma20/">@@gentlepuma20 LOL, honestly, it’s no surprise you turned out the way you did 😬 😈

And hell, why would I even start with me? I’ve been married for over a decade—already got kids who are basically grown. Honestly, a good glass of wine is a bigger temptation for me than some young guy.😬

Also, FYI, I went to those private academies back in the day and it was great. We could hang out in the kitchen, there was a pool, foosball—you name it. Nobody was forced into religious stuff unless their parents insisted (mine did, unfortunately). I grew up in an upscale suburb, mostly military brat families, and everyone went to those private schools. I even remember waving flags when the President would parade through town—kids and teachers everywhere. Totally surreal.

God, I'm such an idiot. Managed to miss out on tickets again today. Instead of hitting up Amoeba Music, I wandered into Dallas Records—and the clerk just gave me this blank stare... I mean, seriously? Both start with 'D' and they're both record stores. I was in a massive rush, it was right there, and I didn't have time to go anywhere else. Hopefully, I'll get lucky tomorrow 😵

Drake said:Does anyone actually eat Cocoa Puffs? That was basically the standard snack in elementary school.
All I can say is🙂

They’re still serving that junk for snacks in elementary schools. I pulled my kids out of the school lunch program—not just because of that, but because the food is straight-up gross—so now I have to meal prep at home. But seriously, those Cocoa Puffs are REVOLTING. Last time I tried them, back around 1985, it was traumatic. Still haven't recovered, so no thanks, I'm not trying them again.

My top favorite things to wear
1. Burgundy boots with a 4-inch heel. Impossible to walk in—so I rarely wear them—but when I do, it's a vibe.
2. A leather jacket—not a punk or biker style, just a vintage, mustard-colored one with a peeling lining, but I love it.
3. My watch—even though half the city has one—and my great-grandmother's ring, which I'm sure nobody else owns.

edit: jelly beans are better than marzipan🙂

What was I even thinking at 14?
- Just wanting to be the quiet, invisible kid in class
- Wishing high school would hurry up so I could actually find my people—since I spent all of middle school being the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel outsider
