Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
Just go hunt down the info directly on the manufacturer’s website. Honestly—you aren't going to be able to crunch those numbers just by glancing at the sticker on the side; unless you're planning on pulling out a ruler and doing it manually, which... why would you?
Joshua Doyle75 said:Man, I honestly couldn't find that anywhere.
You're a lifesaver—I was starting to think that option just didn't exist. 🙂

Well, look at that. 😁

Well, you can find that right there in the Page Scaling settings.

The power supply, that LG junk, and the hard drive—maybe even the case too—should be totally fine to toss into your new build without any issues.

I'm trying to figure out which graphics card is better for gaming—between these two specific options. And please—just don't start with the "oh, you should actually buy this one instead" or "get that other one" routine. I'm picking one of these two, so which one wins?
Thanks in advance. 🤷

Honestly, it doesn't matter which one you pick—with that setup, your gaming repertoire is pretty much limited to Solitaire and Minesweeper.

Henry Kim3, you can barely find anything worth buying at $83:

Honestly, this stuff is barely an upgrade over integrated graphics—IMHO, it’s just throwing money down the drain if you aren't looking for a massive jump. What kind of card were you rocking before this?

Andrew Barrett4 said:If you're suggesting the main difference during that era was just an endless accumulation of debt—basically pure greed—once the gold standard was ditched, then I suppose the whole point of inflation is to erode or just downplay the weight of that debt 😁. Only after things get that far out of hand do interest rates spike, or at least you see some desperate attempts to rein it in, maybe with someone stepping in like a new Volcker.
Anyway, I can respect the disagreement.

Personally, I’m leaning more toward this scenario: http://thearchdruidreport.blogspot.c...ne-hubris.html

It’s fiction—though honestly, pretty damn realistic—spanning five parts. It's a fascinating read. 🙂

Smart Ass was asking whether she should sell her gold or hold onto it. If she had taken my advice to dump it, it would have been based on the idea that rates will rise and gold will fall. My response was more about how likely that specific scenario actually is.

In reality, by not going into heavy detail, I was simply echoing what Ben said two days ago 😍. He suggested that rates won't be hiked until:
a) the economy really starts humming along,
meaning industry, agriculture, stocks, and everything else sees growth (it's only the availability of cash and investment that drives output);
b) because of all that available cash, things don't become too expensive and (official) inflation doesn't climb
(central banks, as things stand, seem confident that they can control inflation with just a few measures or mouse clicks)
c) and finally, that a rate hike will act as a measure to curb runaway inflation.
It’s nothing new; they’ve always played it this way. Only this time, Paul Volcker barely escaped with his skin intact, and back then, things were looking significantly better than they are now. (Which really makes me wonder who 😍 will actually have the guts to implement these kinds of measures in the future)

Ben said essentially the same thing ('RATES LOW AS LONG AS UNEMPLOYMENT IS ABOVE 6.5%, INFLATION BELOW 2.5%'). The only difference is that instead of using industrial growth like I did in my explanation, he pointed to the unemployment rate (which is inversely proportional, but it functions as an analogy here). In other words, he was just saying the exact same thing through a different lens.

So, I’m not quite sure what part of my point was unclear. 🤷

Edit: Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any actual links regarding those threats against P. V.'s life during his time as chairman.

Of course they aren't going to hike interest rates—that would just make the government's new borrowing way more expensive, and honestly, it would only drive their deficit even deeper into the red. 😁

The real issue with today’s banking system isn't risk—it's leverage—or if we're being honest, just straight-up greed. And before anyone tries to drag Volcker into this, let me stop you right there—he has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Is there any way to whip up a bunch of new folders all at once through the command prompt—kind of like how you'd do it in Linux?

You can actually use the mkdir (or just md) command to build out an entire folder tree in one go. For example, if you type mkdir a/b/c/d, you'll end up with folder "a," which holds "b," which holds "c," which finally holds "d." Pretty handy.

Someone brought up using a batch file, but honestly, that feels kind of pointless—you still have to manually type out every single folder name in that batch file anyway, so you might as well just create them one by one.

Maybe hunt down a used Fortron if you can—you aren't finding anything brand new at that price point.

so, I picked up this 16GB SanDisk Cruzer Blade G2 (http://www.google.com/us/usb/perso...siness#dt101g2)
and man, transferring files onto it is an absolute nightmare
I'm averaging about 1.5MB/sec

just for context—my old SanDisk Ultra 8GB that I've had forever is basically Speedy Gonzales compared to this G2; it rips through the exact same file load four times faster than this thing does
and yeah, I tested them both on the same PC

is there any way to actually speed up this new 16GB one, or is this entire series just notoriously sluggish? 🤷

Did you actually copy the exact same set of files during your test? Large files always move faster than a mountain of tiny ones. These sticks aren't exactly race cars, but honestly, both should be hitting at least 5-6 MB/s when you're writing data.

Honestly, just grab two cheap sticks. It’s pretty unlikely they’ll both die at the exact same moment—much better than being stuck with just one and then dealing with a total meltdown when things inevitably go sideways.

It’s definitely going to be a bottleneck if you're trying to push high-end games or anything multiplayer—honestly, you should probably look into overclocking that CPU to at least 3.0 GHz just to stay ahead of the curve.

Alexander Moore67 said:The real issue is the card's height—this case is only about 4 inches wide. He’s basically stuck looking for a card that fits those specific dimensions.

Actually, low profile brackets usually come right in the box with the card; you just swap out the existing one and screw it in. The actual physical height of the card itself isn't the dealbreaker here.

The HD 7770 is a bit of a step down, and if you're looking at Nvidia, any upgrade actually worth your money would be the GTX 660.
