This is hands down one of the most revolting tracks ever released by one of the most ridiculous pop acts in history.
Kudos to them for signing with Mute early on, though; at least they managed to bank some serious cash off those stellar records produced by their colleagues over there.
I guess there’s a silver lining to everything.
Just enjoy the silence, Douglas Taylor4... and shut your trap.
I just can't get enough.

1. Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire"

He’s definitely cool to be a big shot, even if he went a bit overboard with those useless triceps back in his younger days. Didn't "The Mule" have a song about Smith? I always find myself leaning toward Marlon in "Last Tango in Paris" (which really reminds me of "Last Youth in Yugoslavia"). And man, when I think about the Behemoth in "Apocalypse Now"! Truly top-tier work.

2. Paul Newman in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"

Paul Newman is just a neutral figure in my book. He brings to mind the sixties and seventies—and let's face it, the seventies were probably the best decade of the twentieth century. I haven't actually sat down with this specific role; he was just a very young, sharp he-cat back then.

3. Keanu Reeves in "My Own Private Idaho"

What a mess. It's a total disaster of a movie—visually stunning at times, sure, but peppered with completely idiotic episodes. The late Phoenix ended up snatching the spotlight from him. Keanu plays these lost souls, which is why I think he's cool, even if his roles can be incredibly tedious.

4. Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice"

Who is That?

5. Brad Pitt in "Fight Club".

God, what a terrible film (despite having an excellent opening). To make matters worse, it's decorated with Brad Pitt. It's the peak of indie grotesque: a building collapsing while the Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" plays in the background. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

....

1. Joaquin Phoenix

The guy is the man with that crooked rabbit lip. He has a great aesthetic and a handful of solid performances. Better than most.

2. Tim Robbins, but only in his younger years ("Jacob's Ladder")

I couldn't tell you what he was like when he was younger.

3. Johnny Depp

He's a good actor and an interesting character. I won't get into his carnal tastes, but I like him because he's supposedly—according to the tabloids I skim through at the barber—an irrational lover of the Beatnik movement.

4. Edward Norton

Look, listen... *scratches head*

5. John Cusack

I'm an ignoramus. Who is That?

Mission of Myanmar before Miller completely loses his hearing

I’d fly out to Myanmar and then head straight to Italy or Austria... just go on a trip if I had to, even if my bank account was sitting at zero.
Honestly, I don't care much for reunions, and besides, Mission of Myanmar is basically a fake version of the real thing because Weston isn't Swope. In the actual band, you had Zelig's hero—Peter Prescott. Hands down the best drummer who actually sings. Long live the man!

Oktoslav said:Low is a much more intense live act, but based on what you just said about Wilco, you’re going straight to Hell.

Oktoslav, believe me, I'm already there.
Hell.
Don't mind me; I become completely unpredictable and obnoxious whenever indie-alt-country albums are brought up. I've been carrying around these lingering biases from Uncle Tupelo's "No Depression" era, and I just can't shake them.
I'd sit through a Low concert even if they were completely incompetent.

1. Modest Mouse
2. Death Cab for Cutie
3. Wilco
4. Sleater-Kinney
5. Low

Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney, and Low have already absolutely crushed it for me.
Sadly, that goes for my favorites in Low too. And honestly, the best punk-rock vibes from Sleater-Kinney. As for MM, that ship sailed a long time ago.
As far as I can tell, Wilco and Death Cab for Cutie were basically dead on arrival. Sorry, I'm feeling blunt today. Disgusting.

Give me, give me, give me that indie rock blues.

No matter how much life hits me, I'd drop everything to catch Low in concert.

And those American accents? Honestly, I love them all.
Even that irritatingly "metrosexual-urbanite" vibe.

1. Lou Reed - Berlin (The songs feel totally pointless to me, and Ezra's production and those orchestral arrangements are a complete nightmare.)

I'm not buying it either.
Lou Reed absolutely sucks on this specific record.
The tragedy is that his songwriting is still top-tier. The compositions themselves are pure decadence. But those disgusting arrangements? I try to listen to Lou Reed, and all I hear is some murky, bottom-of-the-barrel drumming wandering around in the background. It’s a disaster. Gross. A total waste of great songs. Honestly, where can I find my metal Machin Music cassette?

stormyviper11, consider this your official badge of dishonor—some post-punk kids will probably buy you a Ramones pin at a flea market in Brooklyn.

ari peka nikkola said:...I’m thinking back to some absurd American movie from the late eighties set at a spa resort (where Nikola Tesla and Mickey Mouse play these flamboyant characters). There's this one scene where Gene Simmons goes chasing after a group of guys. I don't remember all the specifics, but I do remember him getting so fed up that he just hurls his bike somewhere and yells, "unspecified." Honestly, that one line perfectly captures my entire philosophy on bikes.

Americans are just obsessed with their own quirks from birth. What was that ridiculous movie called? I need a distraction. This constant monotony, the apathy, the endless loops, the robots, the leaden skies... It's draining. To make matters worse, my old bike got completely trashed, so I had to sell it. It almost feels like Gene Simmons put a curse on me. Such a shame.

...just a quick look at the vinyl collection of one particular indie-college fanatic from this forum, a guy who spends his weekends hunting for gems in dusty record stores across Chicago...

The Comsat Angels - 'Sleep No More'
Au Pairs - 'Playing with Different Sex'
Pop Group - 'For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder?'
Pere Ubu - 'Dub Housing'
XTC - 'Drums and Wires'
The Cramps - 'Psychedelic Jungle'
Devo - 'Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!'
Durutti Column - 'The Return of Durutti Column'
Talking Heads - 'Fear of Music'
Black Flag - 'Damaged'

...I've been trying to convert him to better tastes, but it's a lost cause. He’s already hooked on chocolate milk and indie sweets (basically, Bloc Party).

Whatever, as long as he's happy with it.

That's a shame.
I haven't listened to them either.
Mrs. Damore's band before Pegboy was pure Chicago punk rock.
Supposedly they were incredible.
Just Google it if you want more info.

Kevin Chavez3 said:Man, you totally misread me. I don't mean Black Flag is ugly in some edgy, aggressive way; I mean they’re just plain unappealing—you know, the whole mustache look and all that. It's more like the Misfits kind of ugly.🙂

Mustaches are top-tier.
The Misfits are top-tier.

Since you're already crying over Pegboy—do you actually have that The Ramones "1985-1989" CD?

Also, here's my contribution (I'm basically laying down on the floor for Pegboy).

When I get home, I'm going to Punch Cha Cha Damore as hard as my neighbors will let me. I swear I will.

Kevin Chavez3 said:For God's sake. You know Sid Vicious covered the most pathetic excuse for Oi!, Black Flag? 🙏 🙏 🙏

What kind of bottom-tier Oi! trash are we even talking about here? Is this stuff just meant to be blasted from the stage?
I refuse to acknowledge any band where the guys weigh less than two hundred pounds. Where’s the thick neck like a prize bull? Where are the butcher-style fingers that can cover three strings at once?

Maybe Kevin Chavez3 could put together an actual Oi! playlist for me sometime.
Thanks in advance.

What I really need is...

- a long, boring vacation where I can stay far away from any computer
- being right near the water
- a warm, naked body (someone I actually love)
- the occasional trip up into the mountains
- a good book
- my mom's home cooking
- a stereo setup with a record player and a cassette deck

and unrestricted access

- to John Peel's vinyl collection (and honestly, I don't even need to specify the era; you just know how curated those picks are)

though if I'm sticking to local tastes, I’d be just as happy with

- Professor Shiftar's record collection!

Keep dreaming, kid, keep dreaming...
