I usually stick to Misfits when I want my punk fix, so finding something this catchy was a genuine pleasant surprise. It’s got a really great vibe and actually hit the spot for me.👍

It’s actually pretty fitting since today is Bajram.

Yob - The Unreal never lived

1. Quantum Mystic
2. Grasping Air
3. Kosmos
4. The Mental Tyrant

Yob is a doom metal trio out of Eugene, Oregon—just a stone's throw from Lebanon, if anyone needs a map of the Pacific Northwest. Their sound is basically heavy-duty doom with a healthy dose of stoner influence; it’s intense, it’s crushing, and it doesn't pull any punches. They’ve put out eight albums over the years, and while their discography stays pretty consistent in terms of quality, this one is my personal favorite, so here we go.

Nathan Murphy said:As for the chaos back in elementary school, indie rock was really hitting its stride right alongside Britpop, and most of the girls were the ones curating the playlists. Dream pop was massive back then, and even though they weren't strictly dream pop, The Cranberries were playing everywhere. I get that kids today don't really have the habit of digging deep into music, but we had this ritual where we actually talked about albums and bands; we’d record stuff off the radio just so we could remember what we heard. It was just part of the culture.

That whole indie rock wave dominated for a while, and anyone with a pulse was listening to it—Interpol and all that nonsense. Personally, I steered clear because I found it completely soulless and boring. Mind you, by that point, I was already well into my college years.

One of the big hits we used to blast back then was that song by those Russian lesbians... 😁

I'm happy for her, honestly. I never listened to that stuff and I have zero desire to start now, but hey, if that's what she's into, fine.

edit: right on cue, someone votes for Jay 🎉

I couldn't help myself, honestly—just pure morbid curiosity 😁

But looking at the rest of it, this week's lineup is actually pretty beautiful and diverse.

Carpenter is an incredible director, and honestly, I love his movies—which means I’m a huge fan of the soundtracks too. The score for Escape from New York is just pure genius. It’s got my vote!

I tried a Gyro once, but it didn't really do much for me. 😁

This whole anti-vax crowd is pretty fascinating to watch; they’re just as fed up with all these mandates as anyone else, yet they still refuse to get the shot because they’re convinced they’re being implanted with microchips or some other nonsense.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure it’s the exact same group of people who have been voting for the Republican Party for twenty years straight and then act genuinely shocked when the country ends up in a total mess (but hey, I’m done talking politics in this shop after this).

Is this just pure schizophrenia, or what?

It’s cool to see how much life three little sentences could breathe into this. Basically, Primus is an American band driven primarily by Les Claypool, who was actually told by Metallica during their auditions following Cliff Burton's passing that he was a killer bassist. Their sound is pretty wild and upbeat, best described as funk metal. They’re also well known for those incredibly quirky and hilarious music videos.

Nathan Murphy said:Speaking of Enye, they played her a ton during that 'Life in the North' series. I remember this one episode involving some strange lights, and then they played one of her tracks right at the end—it was honestly phenomenal, even for someone like me who isn't usually into that kind of genre.

And while we're talking about Life in the North, Maggie is easily one of the best characters ever written.😁

I’m swamped at work through Thursday, so if my colleague hasn't posted anything by then, I’ll take over the reins myself.

Regarding the topic itself, we really ought to make it mandatory to include three descriptive sentences alongside the cover art and album title—something covering the genre, the band or artist, and the general vibe of the music. Sometimes I feel like I’m wandering through a massive Best Buy, staring at hundreds of random CDs without having any clue what I'm looking at. Sell it to me. Give me a reason to actually care.

Watching a Hajduk game is basically a masterclass in resilience. Once you’ve learned how to stomach being let down match after match, season after season, you realize that nothing else in life can actually hurt you. It builds a certain kind of toughness. When you're used to that level of disappointment, those other little life setbacks don't even register anymore. 😁

I’m just hoping this whole thing holds together until the end so we actually get something worth seeing out of today 😁

The only thing that isn't fair is what's happening to Alice in Chains; they deserve to have at least one record slapped with an "Album of the Week" title. 😁

How is it that Eddie Murphy still has a full head of hair while I, someone nearly 20 years his junior, am already completely bald!!
