GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Greetings. A colleague of mine is looking to pick up a new graphics card in the $233 range. I suppose an AMD Radeon HD 7750 fits that budget—though he’s currently running an AMD Athlon X2, and I don't have the exact model on hand. His current card is an old ATI 4650. I find myself wondering if an upgrade would actually be worth the investment—specifically, whether that processor is going to act as a major bottleneck.

And seriously, how much capacity are we even talking about here?

Fine, whatever. But what about the tire situation? That was an absolutely bizarre race. Honestly, it was pretty much just boring...

Timothy Kim60 said:I have a question regarding power supplies. I know people constantly bring up high-quality brands and "actual 400W or 500W" ratings. So, what exactly is the deal with those cheaper units—do they just lack the wattage they claim to have on the box?

To be specific, I’m running an old LC- b400 ATX Max 400w for my total system load

And if a power supply is subpar—what actually happens? Does it kill the processor, the GPU, and everything else, or does it just die by itself?

Well, let's put it this way... using a low-quality power supply means there is a higher probability that when it eventually fails, it takes something else inside the PC down with it. Most decent power supplies include protection circuits—which, granted, aren't 100% foolproof—but they are significantly safer than the budget options. Quality components aren't cheap, and those parts are what ensure the unit lasts longer, which in turn protects your computer. They also handle heavy loads much better. For instance, a Corsair VX450w could likely pull up to 600w if pushed, whereas those cheap units might struggle to even reach the 400w they claim on the label, let alone actually deliver it...

Alright, thanks. Now I just have to figure out my doctor's name... 😁 😁 I haven't been there very long, and they seem to swap doctors out every few visits.... 😁
Greetings. I've been hearing rumors that the student doctors near the mosque in Chicago have relocated. Is there any truth to that—and if so, where exactly have they moved to? Thanks.

Does anyone happen to know if there are any openings at a general practitioner's office in Chicago? Maybe somewhere in the downtown area, or perhaps near the suburbs—it doesn't strictly matter. The individual in question is deaf and mute; they work here in Chicago, but they've had absolutely no luck finding an available spot anywhere. So, if anyone happens to have any leads, please let me know—thanks.

Personally, I’d go with the EVGA 550 for that price point—but then again, that’s just my two cents. 😁

EVGA 550 W1—just grab it and call it a day. Honestly, you could probably get away with an EVGA 450 too, since your setup doesn't pull much power anyway. And a word of advice: never trust the salespeople at the local Best Buy. It’s rare to find someone there who actually tells you the truth.

My old setup was basically
-GeForce RTX
-Intel Core i7

I haven't touched the power supply, but I just switched over to
-Radeon RX
-Intel Core i7

And my PSU is only 300W
The PC feels significantly slower now—I'm wondering if it's an issue with the power supply, and if so, what should I buy that won't break the bank?

Before you assume it's the power supply, it might actually be the slower processor😁 😁. If the power supply were truly insufficient, the system would likely just crash or shut down entirely.

Paul Wright7 said:hmm... that GamersNexus link dates back to February—and during that period (and for several months following), the entire CX series was widely dismissed as a "low quality" line, so I suspect most of those comments were predictably negative.

That said, it seems this might be a newer iteration featuring an 80+ certification. Perhaps we were being overly critical of this series for longer than strictly necessary—though, I suppose, that is simply how collective opinion works; once a consensus forms, the possibility that incremental improvements have actually occurred is often just ignored.🙂

Just because they secured an 80+ rating doesn't necessarily mean they've overhauled the build quality. There might have been some minor adjustments, but certainly not enough to warrant recommending them over brands like Seasonic or others... 😉

It seems he might have a bit of Bernie's blood in him, if you ask me—he just can't stand letting anyone else turn a profit. I suspect things played out similarly when he launched the American edition of NASCAR; he managed to alienate everyone involved after just a few issues. Even his supposed influence over the NASCAR broadcasts about ten years ago—which he loves to brag about—is somewhat murky to me. I can't find any record of what his actual role was, and frankly, it feels a little strange how abruptly he exited the NASCAR world. He must have seriously crossed Bernie, because people don't just walk away from NASCAR and everything attached to it that easily.🤷 👎 🙄

From where I'm sitting, the reason he isn't in NASCAR anymore is simply because Bernie isn't handling the broadcasts—someone else stepped in to take over.

dustymason41 said:How am I supposed to know which power supply to pick?
What exactly do I need to look at to choose a PSU?

Well, you really need to know which CPU you're running—but more importantly, which GPU is in the build. Those two components are, by far, the heaviest hitters when it comes to power draw.

I went through this exact same ordeal about a month ago—filed the paperwork for a reversal after an overdraft—and it took them nine whole days just to credit the funds back to my account.

Hello.
I have a question... I’m currently a student and in need of a dentist. I’ve heard some talk that the dentists over by Demarin are decent enough. So, my question is—is there any way to get an exam and whatever else is required without having to transfer my medical records from my current provider? Can this just be paid out of pocket, or something similar? It wouldn't make much sense for me to head all the way back home to handle the paperwork, since I won't be staying here for very long anyway.

Jose Ruiz2 said:460W... that’s pretty weak. I suppose it could be swapped out—could I just put in something slightly better than 550W?

Well, if it's a Neon unit, then we have a problem—but if it's something from Cooler Master or Gigabyte, it might actually pass. I guess we really need the specific manufacturer and the exact model of the power supply before anyone can say for sure whether it’s actually decent quality or not.

I wasn't really looking at what he's planning to load onto it—I just meant that under a heavier workload, it isn't exactly silent. If he's thinking about swapping out GPUs or something similar down the road, he should probably be aware of that.
