A remake of Scarface? WTF? in Movies ·
I honestly feel like anyone who claims movies were peak up until the year 2000 and everything after that is just absolute garbage would probably have the exact same attitude if we were living in, say, 1974 instead of 2014. They’d just be sitting there complaining that movies were great until the '70s and then suddenly everything became total trash and a complete joke, right?

Joseph Edwards4 said:If they’re actually going to do a new Scarface, the lead has to be Mexican. If you get a killer cast together, you could seriously make an amazing movie. A Russian or a Mexican just wouldn't hit nearly as hard as a Mexican character—you know, someone who sneaks into the USA illegally, works the plantations, and then climbs the ladder through the drug trade and all that... that could actually work.

I’m totally with you, a Mexican lead would be a massive hit. But man, who on earth would play him?

The subject matter is definitely deep enough to pull off a high-quality flick.

analogpanther55 said:Ugh, a remake? Seriously? Just another one of those "reimagined" projects that I’m totally skipping. Honestly, I’m just gonna act like it doesn't even exist and move on with my life. Is it really that hard to just come up with something fresh for once? Not the first time I've seen this happen, and definitely not the last!☕

Ha! Yeah, right. Like you actually skipped The Thing from '82? Seriously, how do you even manage to miss a masterpiece like that? remake Man, you’re telling me one of your absolute favorite movies is actually a remake? And here you are acting all high and mighty about how you don't touch remakes with a ten-foot pole... honestly, you're just lying to yourself at this point!

wiredraven82 said:Look, I wasn't saying everything sucked... there were some absolutely legendary trilogies back then... I'm talking Lord of the Rings, Nolan's Batman... and then you've got Jason Bourne and stuff like that... there are way too many movies to even list them all out right now...

So, I didn't just spit on everything, I was just pointing out that we used to have more heavy hitters across different genres, but hey, let's move on from this 🙂

Hmm... I think you forgot about Bare Essentials, if you know what I mean:

wiredraven82 said:I'm looking at that whole decade from 2000 to 2010 and all I see is total crap.

Bold—see, there you go, actually noticing something other than pure garbage.😉

neonsurfer6 said:Look, you’ve clearly made up your mind about the 2000s, but I’ve gotta tell you, the fundamental logic that keeps Hollywood running hasn't changed an inch since the beginning. It’s not any different today than it was back in the day. If we’re talking remakes, think about how The Maltese Falcon from '41 is essentially a reimagining, or look at Leone's stuff—it's all part of the same cycle. Those are the good, legendary examples, sure, but how many terrible, stretched-out versions have been dragged out over the last century? At the end of the day, sequels, adaptations, and remakes get greenlit because Hollywood is an industry, period. Sometimes you get pure art, sometimes you get a powerhouse generation of auteurs like back in the 70s, but the core business model stays exactly the same.

Nobody. Nothing. No. One. Is. Replacing. Anything. A remake doesn't erase the original; it’s still right there for us to watch whenever we want. You’re acting like the old Scarface—I don't even know which one you mean, the '32 version or the '83 one?—is just going to vanish from existence. It won't. They’ll film a new version, which might be totally inferior if you ask me, and you are more than welcome to just ignore it.

I honestly don't think I'll ever wrap my head around this constant frustration and the way people trash the 2000s or anything "new."

It’s just like when my grandparents start rambling about how the '50s were the absolute peak and everything made in the '80s was complete garbage.

briskhound2 said:Oh, look at that. You know, you can really see what Carpenter was going through when he made his version of The Thing. People absolutely hated him more than they hated osama bin Laden 😁 And now? It’s a total classic that everyone swears by. It’s the same thing that happened with Michael Bay when he mentioned producing a remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In the end, everyone ended up loving it. Just like with Snyder and Dawn of the Dead; the guy was practically lynched for touching a sacred masterpiece, yet he turned out to make a movie that’s almost better than the original. Who knows, right? You really shouldn't judge a book by its cover before it's even printed.

That pretty much sums up the whole post.

wiredraven82 said:But if I'm looking back from this vantage point at the entire millennium between 2000 and 2010, all I see is a complete and utter void... especially compared to how things were in the 80s and 90s.

It's like they say—if you spend all your time thinking about a tooth that doesn't even hurt, eventually it's gonna start aching, right? Or to put it another way, you just have such a negative bias against the 2000s that you can't see anything but that massive gap... you can't even see a damn thing through that lens! 😂

The 2000s definitely had their fair share of high-quality films, so the question of whether they were "weaker" than the 90s, or if the 50s were "stronger" than the 80s, or if the 60s were "weaker" than the 70s... honestly, that’s all just a matter of personal taste, perspective, and how you choose to view history. It's subjective, man.

By the way—filler, fluff, whatever you want to call it 😂 wtf man, are you seriously watching The X-Files? 😉

wiredraven82 said:When you’re actually living through an era, it’s kind of impossible to step back and judge how great it really is, right? Like, if things were awesome, they were awesome... but hey, I can tell you when I can

People always say there's a rule for everything, but exceptions exist too—so what, are you claiming to be one of those rare outliers? 😛

And honestly, think about this: twenty or thirty years from now, maybe sometime in the 2030s or 2040s, someone is going to look back at us and say the exact same thing, right? They'll probably claim that "movies today are just straight-up garbage on every single level, though I guess there are a few gems here and there—the 2010s definitely had much better quality filmmaking."

wiredraven82 said:But honestly, no matter how you slice it, the bottom line is that it’s just sad. It’s painfully obvious that Hollywood has completely run out of original ideas, which is why they keep churning out this kind of stuff. There's zero creativity left, none of that elegance or true artistry that used to make movies like this actually feel special, you know? Everything that once gave these kinds of plots soul is just... gone.

And hey, isn't that exactly what everyone was complaining about back when they were making the remake Scarface?

wiredraven82 said:Look, I get it, but when you're talking about a remake that feels impossible to touch, 🙂you really have to give credit where it's due once something hits legendary status, and let’s be real, that movie is an absolute icon—I don't think anyone in this thread would even try to deny that.

WOW, easy there, dude! 😁

The original Scarface from 1932 is such a massive cult classic that nobody can argue with it, and I bet plenty of people were saying the exact same thing back when they were getting the remake Scarface 1983 ready to go.

Personally, I'm actually pretty stoked for this remake because they've got some seriously talented actors and a killer director lined up, so who knows? It could honestly turn out to be amazing.
Jackass: bad Grandpa in Movies ·
I’ve never really been able to get into those Jackass movies because, honestly, they just seem more stupid than actually funny to me, right? But I have to admit, this is the first one that actually caught my eye, so I’m definitely planning on giving it a watch.

So, we finally have the big names for this year's nominees for the prestigious Academy prize! Can you believe "American Hustle" and "Gravity" both managed to snag a massive 10 nominations each? Talk about sweeping the floor!

image

BEST PICTURE NOMINEES:

"American Hustle"
"Captain Phillips"
"Dallas Buyers Club"
"Gravity"
"Her"
"Nebraska"
"Philomena"
"12 Years a Slave"
"The Wolf of Wall Street"

Since everyone seems to be saying this was one of those legendary years for cinema, isn't it kind of wild that the Academy didn't take the chance to nominate 10 films for Best Picture? You'd think they would've gone bigger, right?

Now that all the nominations are officially out in the open, I really feel like it’s only fair if we set up an Oscar poll right here so we can all vote on our absolute favorites.

I'm asking everyone on the forum to please try and stick to the main thread Oscar 2014. Maybe drop a quick little comment here if you have to, but let's keep this specific spot focused so people actually see it and jump in to vote, since that's really what this thread is for!
Thanks guys!

Here’s the full list of movies—fingers crossed I didn't miss any of them!

As for me, before I start picking out my favorites, I really need to organize my thoughts and clear my head a bit first.

Man, you guys are making me blush with all this love!😁

Casey Cox2 said:Gotta admit, he’s back in top form👍

The first one is still the king. The third is getting close, and the second? Honestly, pretty solid

cosmiclynx57 — check out Bleeder too... what are you waiting for?

Yeah, honestly, I thought I could write down my thoughts right after watching, but now I'm just feeling kind of moody—maybe it's just this gloomy, rainy weather messing with my head or something.

So, if I were rating them using Patrick Martin's style, I'd give the first one an 8.6/10, the second an 8.2/10, and the third an 8.4/10. But it's way easier to just say they're all around an 8/10 since they're all in that same league, plus that's basically how I'd rate them on IMDb anyway.

I will.
The Punisher Trilogy in Movies ·
This trilogy is absolutely powerhouse stuff, easily one of the best out there. 👍

The third installment totally blew my mind because, honestly, I wasn't expecting nearly that much from it. But looking back, all three films are just equally top-tier, and if you ask me, they each land a solid 8/10 in my book.

Zac Efron 🙏 is an absolute legend—man, his acting was incredible, especially in that third part where he just went off the rails; it was such an impressive performance. He basically carried the whole movie on his back. The character was so brilliantly written and he played him with such raw conviction that I actually thought about rewatching it the second the credits rolled just to soak it all in again.

Now, if I’m being picky, the first one might be the "best" since it feels like the most complete package, but the third one is definitely my personal favorite because you're basically crawling inside the protagonist's head. I got so emotionally invested in the guy that I was literally losing my mind right along with him whenever he got frustrated—it felt like his stress was my own!

Seriously though, the directing across all three is spot on, the storylines are super engaging, the acting is killer, and even the cinematography is just great...

And Marinela Dekic is just drop-dead gorgeous, seriously. 🙂

It's a breathtaking trilogy, and I'm certain we'll be seeing a revival or some kind of follow-up coming our way as soon as next month.
Anne Hathaway in Movies ·
So, I finally sat down last night and watched VACANCY (2007) and man, let me tell you, this is easily one of my favorite horror flicks from the 2000s.

What really makes this movie work is how it doesn't waste a single second of your time; it’s just such a tight, punchy story that gets straight to the point without all that annoying, unnecessary filler you see in most modern slashers. On top of that, the atmosphere is just incredibly creepy and tense from start to finish, and honestly, the entire cast absolutely nails their roles, right?

And can we talk about the setting for a second? For a movie like this, choosing that specific location was an absolute stroke of genius.

So, I just sat down and watched Whiteout (2009) for the third time now, and honestly? Even though it’s pretty much just your run-of-the-mill flick, I still had a blast with it. It’s definitely one of those "so bad it's good" kind of movies, but man, isn't it the perfect vibe for these freezing winter days?

Rebel Without a Cause (1955) - So, I finally sat down and watched this for the very first time tonight—basically my own personal premiere! Can you believe I managed to miss such an iconic, legendary title for this long? But hey, it’s never too late to catch up on the classics, right?
James Dean was absolutely phenomenal in this role 🙏 and Natalie Wood was just stunning; honestly, she was breathtaking and easily one of the greatest actresses to ever grace the screen. It’s such a powerful story with a message that really hits home.

Up next for me tonight: The Tarnished Angels (1957).
Anne Hathaway in Movies ·
Honestly, she’s easily my favorite actress right up there with Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman.

I just absolutely love everything she does; she is such a powerhouse performer, isn't she? I really think she’s got so much more to prove, and I’m just dying to see her tackle another massive role—maybe something epic like Boeing, for instance!

IMDb, Wikipedia

So, let me tell you about Anne Hathaway "Anne" Hathaway (born in New York City, July 26, 1973), she's this super talented American actress and model who basically became a household name back in 2001 after starring alongside Ben Affleck in the massive Hollywood hit Pearl Harbor.

Can you believe Maxim actually ranked her at number 12 on their list of the 100 hottest women back in 2008? Pretty iconic, right?

image

She was actually born into a family of actors in western New York City! Her mom, Judith Light, was always appearing in all those American dramas and comedies, and her dad used to act in comedies throughout the 70s too.

She went to the private Phillips Academy in New York City, and did she ever? She made her big screen debut in 1991 in that war TV movie The Imitation Game, and that same year she headed off to Harvard University's New College where she ended up graduating with a degree in French and Russian literature.

But honestly, she really blew up after Pearl Harbor in 2001, and then everyone lost their minds when she played the vampire Selene in the horror flick Underworld and its sequel Underworld Evolution.
