I mean, what’s even the point of having a RAID setup if you can't just swap out the drives when things go south?
Maybe this will work?

I wasn't sure how many people would take issue with that phrase, so I played it safe and skipped it—even though it was actually my first choice. 😁🙂

I don't know what to tell you guys. I’m just sitting here looking at this mess and wondering why anyone thought this was a good idea. It’s frustrating, honestly. I try to stay level-headed, but some of these takes are just exhausting. I'll keep it brief because I don't have the energy for a long-winded lecture, but let's be real: we're heading in the wrong direction here. kaže:
I said "compact."

Is a 2TB or 4TB rugged Thunderbolt RAID setup enough for you?

I was looking at this LaCie Rugged RAID setup online. It looks solid on paper, but I’m always skeptical about whether these "pro" drives actually hold up when you start pushing them. They market it for people on the move, which usually just means they're hoping you'll pay a premium for a rubber bumper. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if it's worth the extra cash or if I should just stick to a standard external drive and be careful. Thoughts?

LaCie doesn't agree with you that there's any point in doing that. 😬
🤦 No way....

They’re just polished enough to act like a mirror, which is actually kind of cool.... it has nothing to do with mirroring....

Look, if you don't overcomplicate things or get too deep into the weeds, you can just uninstall the Wi-Fi card on your laptop. Just make sure you actually have the driver saved somewhere before you do that, so you can reinstall it and hopefully everything just resets itself... Set everything to automatic detection—don't go manually typing in IP addresses, DNS servers, or any of that junk...

If it happens again, though, you're going to have to troubleshoot it step by step...
😬

They even have that Mirror drive series. You set it on an ebony stand on your desk, it sits there at a nice angle, just looking sharp...

It’s definitely a pussy magnet...

Ever tried right-clicking that icon when the internet's down? You can let Windows try to troubleshoot any hardware conflicts itself.
LaCie external drives just showed up at ADM, which caught my eye because they’ve been heavy hitters in the storage and networking game since basically the dawn of time. I remember working on their first network storage system back in the day using dBase and Clipper—it ran on Novell and was built for Apple II machines, if anyone even remembers those. To put things in perspective, we're talking over 25 years ago. It's pretty rare for a brand to actually survive that long.

Their stuff has always been top-tier, leaning heavily into high-end design and maintaining that classic affinity for Mac 😬. Here in the States, they’re available through Finder, a company that stays under the radar for most people since they cater to a very specific, pro-level clientele.

On the cooler side of things, you've got the Xtreme design series, headlined by the Christofle Sphere, which is basically a USB drive shaped like a sphere. Then there's the Porsche Design line, the Rugged series with Thunderbolt connectivity, and a whole bunch of other USB, networking, and cloud solutions...

But the real reason I'm bringing up LaCie is this incredible piece of tech called LaCie Fuel. Here’s the breakdown:

1. A hard drive (either 1 TB or 2 TB)
2. Full configuration via a web interface
3. Its own built-in Wi-Fi server with a 45-meter range
4. Supports up to 5 simultaneous Wi-Fi connections across any platform (PC, Mac, Android, smartphones, various AV players)
5. Out of those 5 connections, 3 can handle simultaneous HD streaming to different devices (including Smart TVs)
6. It can be set to automatically connect to the nearest Wi-Fi network, acting as an Access Point to provide internet to up to 4 devices at once
7. Includes a Media app for all platforms that lets you drag-and-drop files and automatically syncs with Dropbox and Google Drive
8. Obviously, it still has a standard USB 3.0 connection

And 9. The best part? It runs on its own battery for up to 10 hours without needing a power outlet!

At ADM, it carries a pretty hefty price tag $0.67, but looking at everything this thing can do, if you actually need these features, it's worth every penny. Trying to DIY an alternative with these specs would cost way more in the end...

Now, when you mention it... Honestly, looking back (I used to have an HP, now I’ve switched to Canon), even though I never really messed around with those extended features, yeah, Canon definitely feels like it offers way more functionality and options than my old HP did. 🤷

Is this supposed to be easy photo printing?

I guess 😬 I'm saying the same thing... you know how it goes. Some repair guy shows up, curses out everyone who worked on it before him because they absolutely trashed it, fixes it, and leaves. Then the second he walks out the door, the whole thing breaks again. 😬

It’s not like a camera where higher resolution automatically means better. A 300 dpi scan is usually total overkill if you're just looking at a JPEG on a screen or printing it out; there's way too much data being captured that you can't even see. It just eats up space. Now, a 600 dpi TIFF? That's getting into "serious work" territory where you could actually take it to a pro print shop. Anything beyond that is strictly for high-end pros. Color depth matters too, and the format...

You're right, but the reality is that the people doing this aren't using consumer-grade gear like we are; they’ve got specialized manufacturer-level equipment at their disposal...

You’ve got your wires crossed here. 😬

That model uses those tiny little ink cartridges, but that's not what we're talking about. We're discussing the ones with the massive ink tanks on the side—the ones that actually keep you from going broke every time you hit "print."

Didn't it strike you as weird that it was half the price despite having the exact same specs?

Pros can handle encryption stuff too—there are plenty of tools out there for that—but the real point is that it isn't some massive expense where you have to sell a kidney just to afford it. It’s gotten a hell of a lot cheaper over the last few years.

Those blinking indicator lights are supposed to act as low-level diagnostics to tell you what's broken. But look, I can't guess what's going on without knowing what we're working with. Give me the exact model number. Also, pay attention to those lights—count how many times they flash and let me know if the blinks are long or short.

Also, tell me how long you've had this thing. Has it ever actually worked right, or have you done something recently that might have caused it to die on you?

If I were you, I’d go with the one that comes with the longer warranty.

Nothing. That’s my honest advice. Anything you try on your own might just trash your data even further and make it completely unrecoverable. Honestly, even just turning the drive on again is a risk. If the files on there are actually important to you, stop messing around and take it to a professional data recovery service immediately:

For places like these, they usually offer free diagnostics, so at least you'll know if anything can be saved and what the damage to your wallet will look like:
