Thinking about applying for moderator? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
You know that old American cliché...? "Don't call us. We'll call you."😉
How do I upload images and videos to the forum? in Forum Help! ·
Exactly. You selected the resize option during the upload process. Just upload the original image without resizing it, then once it's finished, select the thumbnail instead.

This is the image you uploaded. Or maybe you just picked some weird resizing option during the upload process. 🤷

And how am I supposed to verify that? 🙂

From what I can see, it's just not possible.

I'm not entirely certain, but I wouldn't bet on it.

You probably have a partial ban on that one. 🤷

The one right here. Just read it:

I'm not sure about other browsers, but if you're using Firefox, just right-click the image and select "show image information." The dimensions will be listed in the window that pops up.
Best emoticons/emojis? in Forum Help! ·
Are you talking about those custom emojis that aren't built into this forum, but you find them elsewhere?

It's simple. Just sign up for an image hosting site like Imgur. Once you've registered, you can set up your own albums. Create one dedicated specifically to emojis and upload all your favorites there. Then, just bookmark the link to that album in your browser. That's it. It takes a little effort, but eventually, you'll have all your favorite emojis just one click away.

I have no idea... What about fixing the text color menu in the editor? 🤷

BTW, adding a skin selector like that is a trivial task. The real issue is designing new skins. I have absolutely zero talent for that. 😁

Brenda Palmer7 said:I am in total agreement here. Maybe you should just lock those threads entirely; if a user actually has a valid reason to continue a discussion, they can just reach out to a moderator to have it reopened.

Reducing penalty points would also make the users happy, I assume.

Just to be clear. My point wasn't an attack on the moderators (as I'd be criticizing myself too 😁). There are thousands upon thousands of threads like this. You can't expect moderators to manually monitor and close them all. An automated system should handle that. I'll say it again: we're talking about threads with zero replies for months or even years.

And yes. If someone wants to discuss a topic again, the thread gets reopened or a new one starts (which is even better). That's how it works on the US forums I mentioned. When the system automatically locks a thread, it posts a notice at the bottom stating the topic is outdated and closed, then asks users to start a new one if they want to talk.

I’d much rather deal with moderators who actually use their brains instead of just mindless automation screwing over the users. 🙂

That kind of mindless automation would certainly make life easier for everyone. Users could actually feel confident replying to any thread without being punished for "necroposting."

Right now, a user spots an interesting topic and decides to chime in. Suddenly, they get flagged for "bumping an old thread." My question is simple... if you aren't allowed to reply to a topic, why is it even open for replies? Why isn't it locked?

Christian Taylor3 said:My blood pressure is spiking again, but no fucking way—not on entertainment. 🙂 This is pure destruction. By that logic, should every user wanting to talk about 'movie xy' have to start a brand new thread just because the old one hasn't been active for six months? 😵 Where does this even end? 🤷 Some divine automatic locking system... as if we're actually going to watch that movie.

🤦

Of course there will be only one thread per movie on the movie subforum. Go back and read what I wrote.

So, for aggregate threads (those where there’s just one main topic instead of 100 tiny ones), there's no locking; for everything else, they get locked. That’s decided when a new thread is posted (or a moderator changes it whenever).

Naturally, aggregate threads are more common on some subforums (like movies or video games) while they aren't on others (like IT Help, Ljes, or PŽK...). That's why auto-locking is disabled by default on the first group, but enabled on the others.

This really ought to be handled automatically, just like how it works on other international forums. You could simply disable it for certain high-profile or megathread topics, but for everything else, you should enable auto-lock after, say, 3 or 6 months of inactivity.
Signature thread in Forum Help! ·
rapidtrucker14 said:That’s why I was confused... but why isn't it just set that way?

Because every single time you go to write a post, there's an option right below the text box asking if you want to show your signature or not. If you actually have a signature set up, that option defaults to on; otherwise, it stays off by default.

Basically, for every individual post you write, you can decide whether or not your signature shows up.
New skin? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
fadedmarlin402 said:This skin is basically what defines this entire forum. The real issue is how the users would actually react to a change like this. Sometimes it's better to just stop playing games with these experiments.

Nobody is saying there can only be one single skin. Just implement a menu with about ten different options—including this one as the default—and let everyone pick whatever they want. Save the preference in a cookie and then everything will be fine.

No clue. If it works, it should work. Just send a PM to the moderator over there and ask... 🤷

Henry Evans3 said:Why does the image show up fine here, but whenever I try to post it somewhere else on the forum, it just turns into a plain link?

Check the Posting Rules on that sub-forum (bottom left, under Quick Reply). It’s likely that IMG tags are disabled there.

coppermaker19 said:Does anyone know if it's possible to add text to an image uploaded with ImageShack? When I set up an album, I'd love to include a brief description for each photo, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet... 🙈

Are you planning to put descriptions here on the forum or directly on ImageShack? If it's on ImageShack, I have no idea; I don't use them. Besides, that's not really relevant to this thread. This topic is about posting images here on the forum, not about how the ImageShack interface works.

great buttons for custom settings 🙂

It isn't just about the speed or precision. It's nothing special in those departments. It has 1000dpi.

But other features make it excellent. First, it's wireless. Second, the battery life is incredible. One charge lasts almost 3 years (for comparison, a friend has a wireless one and has to swap batteries every week). Third, the nano-receiver is awesome. The connection is solid, too. It works from several feet away—2 or 3 definitely, haven't tested further. And fourth, most importantly, there's what they call "hyper-fast scrolling." Since I experienced that, I can't go back. I could never use an "ordinary" mouse again. It's truly brilliant. Oh, and it has 8 buttons total.
