Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·

Look, I don't care if you got them from a buddy or if he had no trouble installing them. It’s entirely possible he burned them at a high speed, like 16x, using cheap, low-quality DVD media. If your DVD drive's laser is getting a bit weak, it might struggle to read those specific discs, which would explain why you can't get Windows 7 to install.

Maybe have him burn the Windows media again using the slowest speed possible onto some decent, name-brand DVD media. Or, honestly, maybe just have him let you borrow his DVD drive so he can handle the Windows 7 installation for you. 🙂

John Johnson16 said:Yeah... I just finished installing Windows XP SP3, thinking maybe there was some glitch in the initial Windows setup, so I tried running the Windows 7 installer again. Still nothing...🤷

Maybe you should try burning that Windows 7 ISO onto a different DVD.🙂

John Johnson16 said:I'm just messing around here... it's not my first time installing Windows... but the DVD won't let me boot from it, even though everything in the BIOS looks correct..
And whenever I try to run the installation through My Computer, I get this
Windows Installer ERROR

So.. help me out... oh yeah.. I have everything Windows 7 requires... hardware-wise, at least.

Basically, you should be doing exactly what this image shows:

That bolded part? It's pretty obvious, really—Windows installs are meant to be done via boot.

Otherwise, your DVD drive might just be struggling to read those specific Windows files. Maybe try burning them onto a higher-quality DVD using a lower burn speed.

Wait, are you actually planning on setting up a dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7, or...

I keep getting an error whenever I try to install Windows 7..
Basically, I pop the DVD into the drive, but instead of starting the installation, it just throws a Windows Installer ERROR at me..
I don't really get what the issue is here.

Maybe take a look at this link and try following these steps:

Brandon Morris3 said:So, how am I supposed to tell if a disc is actually bootable? I’ve already downloaded three different versions of Windows, but nothing is working. I set my boot priority to the CD-ROM first, then the secondary hard drive, then the floppy, and I restart the PC hoping for the best—but it just boots straight into my existing Windows like I didn't even try anything. It's like the computer isn't even seeing the disc. 😕

If you already have Windows running on your machine and you’re trying to upgrade by popping a bootable Windows DVD into the drive, there’s a specific window of time during startup where you have to hit a key on your keyboard. If you actually press it, the installation process kicks off. If you miss it or just don't bother, the computer will just bypass the disc and boot straight into your current Windows from the hard drive—at least, that's my take on what you're asking. 🙂

Are you actually certain that Windows 7 DVD is even bootable? 🙂

Either scrap that Norton entirely, or maybe just run a System Restore back to a date when things actually worked. 🙂

Yeah, you pretty much do.
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
And what's wrong with Fortron 400W? It does its job just fine, I guess. 🙂

The program is designed for Windows 7, so I guess it depends on where you actually plan to install it. 🙄

Have you actually checked the Device Manager yet to see if there’s some kind of yellow exclamation point or question mark hanging around? 🙂

So, what exactly do you mean by stalling and stopping? Walk me through it with an example, if you can. 🙂

cosmicjackal39 said:I need some help here. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, but as soon as I activated it and rebooted, everything died. Now, when I power on the PC, it just sits there staring at me with a "verification DMI POOL DATA..." error and nothing else happens. It actually worked fine before I tried to activate it, but now it won't boot at all. I had to go through the hassle of reinstalling the whole OS, and honestly, I'm afraid to try activating it again.😠

If you're looking for advice on legitimate Windows 7, Noah Sanchez39 already gave you the rundown. For anything else, I guess you're on your own. 🙂
You could also just use Adobe Acrobat, which functions pretty much the same way as the one > mentioned, and it gets the job done quite well, I guess. 🙂

So, once you click the Start button with your mouse, you'll see "search programs and files" sitting right above the icons. 🙂
Andrew Mendoza10 said:He didn't actually say anything specific. It feels a bit weird to me, though. I mostly downloaded from people who had already hit 100% completion and just left the files there for everyone else. If they realized the quality was garbage, why wouldn't they just delete the torrent?

That’s basically the whole difference between private trackers and public ones. You don't run into this kind of mess on private sites. On public ones, nobody really cares enough to police the content, let alone scrub the junk.
I guess the golden rule is to stick to public sites only when the .nfo or .txt files included with the movie actually have praise for the quality or shout-outs to the uploader, rather than warnings about fake files. 🙂
Andrew Mendoza10 said:I was honestly hoping it wasn't anything serious, but I guess there might be some kind of virus in there.

I really hope it isn't 🙄, but when you grabbed that from the public torrent, wasn't there an nfo or a txt file included? Usually, if there's an issue with a file—like a movie—someone will post a note so others don't waste their time downloading junk. 🙂
It looks like a bit of a mess here. I'd say maybe you should just wait until the Napster version drops before downloading anything; it’ll probably be more reliable that way. 🙂
