Mark Cruz15 said:I was spinning I Can Hear The Heart Beating as One (1997) yesterday. Solid stuff.

Everything from Painful to Fade is basically top-tier—it's rare, maybe even unique, to find a band from the late 60s or early 70s that didn't mess around for five+ albums straight. Maybe R.E.M. or The Attractions could compete with that.

after The Velvet Underground, they're my absolute favorite NY band—saw them play two killer shows in Chicago

I almost made it to that second show, but I was dealing with some legal headache over unpaid dues for a political group—but honestly, seeing as they didn't even touch Season of the Shark, I can't say I'm too bummed about missing out.

Mark Cruz15 said:So, basically, there are 15 Democratic Party supporters over in Bulgaria. I can't believe we're still talking about this—honestly, that whole situation was just such a mess from the start. It’s one of those things you just have to accept at this point—it is what it is.

I've tallied them up. 9 (with me).

Man, I got totally screwed over on Ride The Lightning—by the end, I had collected more posts than there are Democratic Party supporters in Bulgaria.

She’s definitely better at this than I am--no contest

I really should've realized the second he typed that—I mean, seriously, what else could "n.s.o." possibly mean?

She looked kind of androgynous in most of the photos—sorry if that’s blunt, but I don't sugarcoat things. Musically, I think she’s got potential, so I’ll have to give her a spin, even though I don't see any real connection between her and Lana Del Rey or Lorde. We still have brilliant musicians out there today, but hardly any of them actually top the charts. Honestly, half of my playlist is just stuff from the last decade or so.

Wait, what does n.s.o. mean? It reminds me of that episode of Mućka where Rodney was watching the bus depot (can't find the link right now).

(not sure what that means)

So what's the deal with her—and what does "n.s.o." even mean?

It’s been 20 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center—honestly hard to believe—so I’m spending the whole day spinning this classic in honor of them.

honestly, I can't quite put my finger on the new Lorde—it's hit or miss for me—but Melodrama is definitely her peak album

I was diving back into Lorde’s discography recently—really digging in this time—and I've gotta admit, I think I overhyped her early on. Sure, she has a few gems, but let's be real: in today's landscape of manufactured pop, almost anything sounds like a masterpiece by comparison. Plus, there's something refreshing about her being unapologetically herself—not some sanitized, fake version of a girl you see in modern pop—just someone who isn't afraid to be raw or messy, which I've always respected.

Still, both her and Lana—who are genuine outliers in the Billboard sludge—mostly feel like artists who wouldn't have even been able to buy Lennon, Dylan, or Jagger a cup of coffee forty or fifty years ago, let alone be signing massive record deals.

analogbear40 said:It’s cool that you guys are keeping these LP weeks going—but I’d say we should throw in another category, or maybe just start a separate thread for them—covering 7", 12", EPs, and mini LPs.

It’s pretty obvious most people here are focused on full albums, but—from where I’m sitting—we really ought to look at these other formats too. There are tons of artists who mostly dropped one or two of those types of releases back in the 70s (especially the late 70s—if you follow my logic) and through the 80s, right when singles were absolutely peaking.
Some of those rarities—in certain genres, anyway—can actually be way more interesting than their full-length counterparts, so they definitely deserve some spotlight.

I don't think anyone's really sweating it. For instance, I suggested this underground gem by an indie artist, and it’s got 8 tracks and runs about 25 minutes—which is basically EP/mini LP territory. So, honestly? I’d just say share whatever you think is worth listening to—whether more people want to make it a thing or not isn't really up to me.

Gerald Jackson48 said:There’s definitely more out there—though I haven't really gone down that rabbit hole myself. But man, groups like Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, and Peter Tosh? They’ve got plenty to offer beyond just Bob.

After that, maybe dive into some dub for those more introspective vibes—check out Scientist, Mad Professor, or Lee Scratch Perry...

I know the basics—Black Uhuru, Marley, Tosh, Gregory Isaacs, The Maytals, and stuff like that.

I dropped a link to Radical Dub Collective on Tom Sound—I remember when they were actually kind of big, though God knows why I'm digging them up now. My dub knowledge is pretty shallow, but I've heard the genre/technique is actually super intense to pull off.

Casey Flores said:Honestly, I find her music pretty interesting—I can pinpoint exactly what’s throwing me off. She’s physically intense, but looking at this *Ultraviolence* cover... she looks exactly like my ex. 🤣

I just hope you didn't get burned in the end—you know, hoping the packaging was actually better than what was inside.

My issue with these stuck-up types is that I struggle to play nice—so if anyone, man or woman, even if they're just handing me a bill from ConEd, acts with that kind of pretentious attitude without being SUPER smart or funny, they can expect me to just shut them out and ghost them indefinitely. And apparently—if people are to be believed—I'm pretty damn good at it.

Lisa Davis46 said:Nah, man—this one’s actually legit.🙂 Honestly, this might be the best track I've heard in a minute.

I just can't bring myself to vibe with her—so yeah, I'm stoked. I can't even put my finger on what bugs me about her, especially since she's right in my wheelhouse... maybe it's just that look on her face that says she thinks she's better than everyone else.

Gerald Jackson48 said:You guys just burned through my go-to picks for the next few weeks—Carcass, Kraftwerk, Lana Del Rey... Now I’m gonna have to dig deep into the crates for new ideas or just pivot to jazz and hip hop, where you can actually find stuff. 😁

Aside from Carcass, though—not really feeling those picks.

Lately I’ve been diving into some Jamaican vibes (except for that "Rate the Song" thing which is still the main focus)
I gotta thank cosmiccobra2—reggae wasn't even on my radar, so now I'm having to rethink everything. There's some seriously top-tier stuff out there.

Sticking to my vibe—not just some random album, I'll dig up something better by tonight.

Honestly, I don't even know what his deal is anymore—he's clearly totally selling out.

And that's just some 90s old school stuff.

I've heard that whole thing about the four-chord thing—honestly, looking at modern pop, it feels like the lyrics, the arrangements, and the production were all just built by robots for robots. Here’s a quick breakdown of the theory behind it: https://www.classicfm.com/discover-m...very-pop-song/

I checked out Angel Olsen - Aisles and some 80s covers—didn't really do it for me, honestly, plus she always feels a bit dull to me anyway.
Forever Young was best handled by Salem—that’s how a track should feel, just pure paranoia and the end of the world😁
