I'm good, Lisa Davis46, thanks for asking!

Just wanted to let you all know I've decided to make a change—honestly, after talking with lemonzoo, it just felt right. So, if the mods are cool with it, I’ll be switching my handle from fassgodard to fasshule pretty soon. 😛arty:🙂

To celebrate...

Can we switch from Dennis Hall41 to Fasshule? Not Fasshole—Fasshule.

If that’s asking too much, then let's just stick with Dennis Hall41. Thanks!

Dennis Hall41 works. Just let Nicole know.

Morgan Brown4 said:I'm really wondering if we're even talking about the same person here. 😁 Actually, now that I think about it, there are two of them—it's just that the second one is slightly less annoying and doesn't have a partner (or at least doesn't drag them to the movies), though they show up a bit less often. 😁

I never really understood all that whining about old-school theaters and how the rise of megaplexes and moving cinemas into shopping malls supposedly "killed" movie culture and all that.
$15 It’s just way too much. I don't know if prices spiked recently or if it's always been this way—I wouldn't know because I don't pay full price, right? I use my student ID, so I'm paying about a third less. Plus, you've got those cheaper Tuesdays and Wednesdays, early screenings, weekend matinees... 😁 Though even now, things have gotten pretty pricey. Longer movies and Extreme2D screenings end up costing more than $10 even with those discounts applied...

Anyway, this is probably drifting into a different topic. 😛

If you're a student, I'm guessing you weren't hanging around places like the local indie spots or the old downtown houses during the big premieres back in the day—so honestly, it would be weird if you actually "got" the nostalgia. Look, the vibe of a modern multiplex just isn't comparable to a classic old theater. There’s just something special about stepping out into the fresh air right after a movie, instead of being blinded by a million watts of neon lights from all the shops around.

Morgan Brown4 said:Wait—didn't you say on the last page that you had like a couple thousand titles just like this one? 😁

Man, my bad—I totally skipped the OP.😁

It's way too expensive.
Plus they charge extra for the cone. 🤣

Actually, I didn't notice the Christian metaphor myself—I just read about it later on Wikipedia. 😁 I was looking more at Balthazar as a metaphor for Christ Himself.

By the way, I've noticed that in more of Bresson's films, things tend to break or fall. I don't know if there's some deep symbolism there or if it's just a coincidence or random stuff. 🤣

Those annoying groups can be a pain (I still remember the nightmare during the Stalker 2017 screening—constant munching, slurping, people walking in and out, talking, typing, phone calls, you name it), but usually they aren't enough to totally ruin the experience (except for those rare cases, like those idiots during Stalker).

I haven't heard those wannabe intellectuals during screenings, though. If anything, I'd say they're mostly academics. The few college kids I know who show up are actually pretty polite and quiet; they just sit down, watch the movie, and shut up. 😁

But then you’ve got this one big-shot member of the elite American film circles, right? She shows up to these screenings and actually uses ribbons to block off seats just so she can sit next to her guy. Then, instead of watching the movie, she spends the whole time flirting with him or just scrolling away on her phone...😠😠😠 😠

I have a pretty good hunch who this "esteemed" lady might be, but I'll keep my mouth shut. I can see the scene perfectly. It’s a damn shame—I was actually just talking about this with some friends—that the number of classic American independent cinemas has been drastically cut down. Honestly, I've viewed it as an unforgivable crime against culture for twenty years now. There was nothing like watching movies back in the 90s during their premieres at places like the August Cesarac, for example. And tickets at the big multiplexes? They're expensive as hell. I won't pay $15 for a weekend evening screening, I just won't.

Morgan Brown4 said:So you just start thousands of movies and then ditch them? 😁

I rarely pause a movie—maybe once or twice a year, max. If I actually fall asleep or have to stop for some reason, it bugs me—I gotta get back to it ASAP. Thank God for DVR.

I guess it’d be way less of an issue if some old guy was hooking up with a twenty-something—but hey, that’s just how things are these days.

northernangler8 said:I feel like The Dude doesn't really click with women the way it does with guys—I watched it once, maybe didn't even finish it. It’s not a bad movie, just felt a bit slow to me, even though the guys I know were cracking up the whole time.

It's not a bad flick, and yeah, it can be a slog. It's definitely solid, but I've never quite understood the hype surrounding it either—honestly, the cast carries the whole thing, they basically pull it above average. The vibe is great and the soundtrack hits, but I think Coen have made much better stuff than The Dude. It just lacks focus—or maybe I just don't get that style of storytelling.

Stacks of old Hollywood classics, piles of Japanese cult films, heaps of Italian horror, South American cinema, gritty American indie stuff... we're talking thousands of titles here.

I gotta admit—it’s kind of embarrassing—but I still haven't sat down to watch Lawrence, Casablanca, the magnificent Amberson, or The Big Sleep...
I've only ever seen the first one, Night of the Living Dead. Honestly? It’s easily one of the top 10 horror movies I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I’d love to catch something like A Condemned Man Escaped on the big screen, but honestly, I had a massive issue with the crowd back at the local indie theater—especially during screenings of the more demanding stuff. You had the enthusiasts, sure, but then you had the bored crowds who probably only showed up because their spouses dragged them along, secretly expecting gunfights, glamorous socialites, or some muscle-bound action stars. There were also those awkward, uninspired students just checking a box for class, but the absolute worst—the reason I rarely go there anymore—were the pseudo-intellectual types. Basically, the equivalent of Nikica's inner circle from a local community college—people who felt the need to flex their supposed brilliance by chiming in with stuff like, "Oh, look, a classic Bergman close-up," or "Handheld camera! This is totally Dogme 95, man," or "What a great wide shot, so Antonioni-esque, fits the story perfectly."

Basically, lately I’ve been watching the heavy hitters strictly within my own four walls. I’ve always felt that consuming serious cinema is an activity that demands solitude and peace—I usually satisfy my cinematic itch by hitting up screenings for thrillers or mainstream hits instead.

Morgan Brown4 said:Just starting this thread to let the locals and anyone passing through town these days know that a Bresson retrospective kicked off yesterday over at the local cinema near Tuškanac. It runs until Wednesday, so it’s a great chance to catch most of his work on the big screen. 🙂

I actually caught A Condemned Man Escaped yesterday. It’s an interesting way to shoot a film, though I can't say it totally clicked for me on the first watch. 🙂

I'm really curious to see how I'll feel about Pickpocket. A friend of mine saw it last year and told me she found it pretty boring. 😁

Interesting and really good, but in my book, it doesn't quite hit that all-time great status. I don't see anything groundbreakingly impressive about the whole thing.

Two guys are hanging out in a room when the phone rings in the next one. One guy gets up, takes the call, handles his business, and walks back in only to find the walls and furniture absolutely covered in cum.
"Seriously? What were you doing while I was gone?"
"Chill out—I just had a little gas."

Lisa Davis46 said:I don't know—usually I only need that stuff when I'm looking for some alignment and inner peace. So, I have no clue what kind of prep you'd even do for that. 😁 You should probably ask baribba or weekend warrior instead—seems like they're more into that scene.

As for what you were recommended... honestly, I'd jump out a window right now just to avoid it. 😳

Listened to Enov on Land yesterday, and yeah—it actually chilled me out.

Matthew Jackson2 said:Before you go tossing around labels like "Flat Earther" at everyone—which is funny, because somehow you don't get banned for that, but if I used the actual term, I'd probably be kicked off the forum in a heartbeat—you might want to actually look at what the experts in Germany are saying:

STIKO stated in their official guidance that they only recommend vaccination for teenagers who have underlying medical issues that increase their risk of developing a severe case of coronavirus.

They clarified that they aren't currently advising the vaccine for healthy 12-to-17-year-olds, though they did mention that doctors still have the discretion to administer the shot if the patient is willing to accept the risks involved.

You clearly haven't read my work, so I get why you missed the irony—the "general thing" phrase was the only real giveaway.

I was pointing somewhere else entirely. I know this poll number isn't going to match what we actually see playing out soon—just like how that supposedly massive group of COVID skeptics basically evaporated like mist in the sun. These press studies serving whatever power structure they want either make me die laughing or serve as toilet paper after a long trip to the bathroom, depending on how they're served up—especially when they're presented as "the truth" that'll be totally debunked by opposite arguments in a week. Just look at how fast the mask narrative shifted. Me, and people like me, have longer memories than just the last few weeks.

So, 85% of you are Flat Earthers, huh? Honestly, it’s embarrassing—how can you just ignore science and refuse to step up for the greater good? I'm genuinely pissed. This whole thing feels way too much like that forum debate we had back in January, and seeing how things always blow up... I really want to know which side everyone's going to jump to when this exact same issue gets shoved down your throats by some stinky news outlets in a few months.

It’s got nothing to do with the gigs, man. They just want to mess around—I’m telling you, they're only looking for trouble.😁
