Democratic Party directors in Movies ·
I’m not really one to advocate for churning out movies at a breakneck pace; I find it pretty difficult to expect anyone to maintain a high level of quality when they're working that fast, though I suppose there might be a few exceptions. Personally, I’ve always been more of a quality over quantity kind of person, so I figure it’s probably better if a director makes ten absolute masterpieces over a forty-year career rather than putting out a new project every year or two and just ending up with a mountain of mediocre stuff.
Kevin Smith's Red State (2011) in Movies ·
After checking out Jay & Silent Bob, I tried sitting through this one along with Zack & Miri, but I ended up turning both off before they actually finished... I guess Chasing Amy might be the best of the bunch...
Kevin Smith's Red State (2011) in Movies ·
I ended up turning this crap off halfway through; I just couldn't deal with it, honestly, it was pretty terrible...
List of movie theaters in the USA in Movies ·
Whether it’s complicated or not, I don't think that's really an issue for you, since you're coming from your direction—meaning the east side of the city—so the AMC Theatres near Tower Center is pretty much one of the first buildings you'll run into, so you should be able to get there without any trouble at all...
Bruce Willis in Movies ·
I watched Die Hard with a vengeance yesterday... honestly, it’s always been my absolute favorite in the whole series. I think the chemistry between Bruce Willis and the energy he brings to the screen just works so well here; they both seemed to be having such a blast with their performances. Plus, the way the villain sets up those specific stakes felt really impactful, especially since the first two movies were pretty much confined to one single location. My only real gripe is the ending, though. It felt like a bit of a letdown to me—kind of a rushed, lackluster confrontation that just didn't quite land the way it should have.
The Irishman (2011) in Movies ·
It feels kind of pointless, honestly... the whole movie just boils down to this endless loop where you kill him, then he comes after you, then you take him out again, and it just keeps circling back on itself. I guess they put all the focus on the main guy, which makes everyone else feel pretty thin and one-dimensional. And, if I'm being honest, maybe Val Kilmer has just seen better days.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010) in Movies ·
I have to admit, I was expecting a whole lot more given how many glowing reviews I saw floating around online, but honestly, I ended up turning this one off after about 50 minutes because it just felt like such an irritatingly dull slog... done...

I think I’ve only actually sat down to watch Point Break and Strange Days so far...

I’ve always felt that Point Break is such a fantastic action thriller, especially because of how effectively it’s set within the surfing subculture. I guess that whole atmosphere just adds this extra layer of charm to the movie that you don't see very often, which makes it feel a bit more special to me.

I honestly feel like Strange Days is such an incredible movie, maybe one of those gems from the nineties that just hasn't received the credit it truly deserves...
It feels like Keaton, Kilmer, and Travolta have been churning out quite a bit of trash lately...
I honestly feel like if you just take the time to dig a little deeper and really hunt around, you’re bound to stumble upon some incredible gems that haven't been overhyped by the mainstream... that's just how it works, I guess.

And besides, great cinema isn't just something happening exclusively in America or within the Hollywood film industry... there is so much talent out there in the rest of the world making films that are just as good, if not arguably better... if you spend a bit of time scrolling through this forum, you'll see tons of recommendations for amazing international films... so, in my opinion, the art of filmmaking itself isn't dying at all; maybe Hollywood is struggling a bit, but who really cares about that when there's so much other great stuff out there to watch?
The Wicker Man in Movies ·
I mean, yeah, this movie absolutely hits hard... the scenery is just stunning, and there's that lingering sense of mystery, that eerie little community vibe, plus that really engaging soundtrack and a finale that is honestly just shocking and totally caught me off guard. It’s such a great film, I think.

Richard Johnson42 said:😍😁 I've heard some rumors floating around about there being a video online where they actually worked really hard to make sure you could hear exactly what's being whispered, though I guess I didn't find myself particularly interested in looking into that 🙂

Anyway, I feel like it’s one of those movies you can use to gauge someone's emotional sensibility, or at least see how much their perspective aligns with my own 😉

It was incredibly compatible with mine...🙂...whereas a huge chunk of people seem to claim the movie is just maddeningly boring...as for that whispering thing, man, I spent half the internet searching for it...everyone seems to have their own little interpretation...but honestly, maybe it's better left ambiguous so you aren't quite sure and can just process it your own way...though I suppose that whisper really did give the whole film its final, defining touch...

spoiler Lost in Translation

Man, I see so many great comments about this movie... especially when people mention how much they love Lost in Translation. I actually watched it during one of those specific moments in my life where everything just clicked, and it really captured me. It hit so hard that I ended up spending way too much time scouring the internet just to figure out what they were whispering at the very end.😁
Is Mad Max considered Sci-Fi? in Movies ·
Walter Grant5 said:Maybe the whole foundation is just fiction.

And then there's the English saying:

Mad Max is a 1979 Mad Max. Mad Max Mad Max

Check out this page on Mad Max. It’s basically the blueprint for everything we love about the genre. Just a quick look at how that whole wasteland vibe started.

So, what's next on the agenda?

Alright. Maybe I messed up. The internet isn't exactly proof.

Answer my question. Is that 2014 drama considered Sci-Fi?

Yeah. 2014 hadn't even happened yet, let alone from the perspective of the late 70s when they actually shot the thing. It’s just pure guesswork about the future—total fiction.

I'm not trolling. If you're aiming that at me, I'm just standing my ground on what I believe. If that counts as trolling, then I'm out. Done with this thread.

Hell no. I was talking about the woman who posted that, not some guy who didn't even write it.

"Separation"? I can't recall a single dystopian element in it. Blue Velvet.

Look, quit nitpicking over commas and tiny details. It's obvious what I meant. I was clearly talking about a separation. Typo.Look, you don't have to get all worked up about it, but hey, if it makes you feel better, go for it. Like I said, I've noticed people bringing it up in that context lately, and honestly, it’s worth a debate. If you want to drop a third rebuttal, be my guest. Knock yourself out.

Wait a second... if you were to film something like "Love Actually" right now and claim the plot takes place in 2050, would you call that Sci-Fi? I mean, I honestly can't believe that's how we're defining it...
James Cameron's Sanctum (2010) in Movies ·
I have to say, the premise itself sounds pretty captivating... you've got those deep underwater caves and all that exploration... I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how they actually pull it off visually.
Wrecked (2011) in Movies ·
Yeah, I think this could actually be pretty interesting... I've always had a soft spot for those survivalist movies set deep in the wilderness...
Do we actually need The Godfather Part IV? in Movies ·
I feel like The Godfather Part III is actually a solid movie, and it does a really beautiful job of wrapping up everything regarding Michael Corleone's life and all that... though, if I'm being honest, it feels maybe two or three steps below the first two films compared to the others.

So, I was wondering, did we ever get a new Weekly film thread where goldenhound32 shared that movie À la folie... pas du tout? I can't seem to find it anywhere, and I have to say, I finally watched it... it was absolutely brilliant!

rustywalker1 said:Has anyone checked out Paranormal Activity? Apparently, it’s a hit considering how little they spent on it. I haven't sat down to watch it yet. What’s the verdict? I know it’s a bit cliché, but worth a shot?

Feel free to just skip over this...

So, where are we at right now?... I mean, can we start talking about > > yet? Or are we supposed to wait maybe three days so everyone else has a chance to catch up on the viewing?
