Jeffrey Garcia11 said:Sharp eyes; I suppose you might have spent a few nights out there 😁

Probably even more than you think. 😉
Do you work there?
Jeffrey Garcia11 said:I don't think spending $120-$$43 per tire is worth it. For instance, I've already gone through two sets of Goodyears this season, and the studs aren't even worn down yet—they're all still there. I'd definitely recommend beadlock rims instead; they hold the bead like industrial-strength glue. 🙂

I have a set of old studded tires I took off since I mostly drive on pavement, so I'm thinking about repurposing them.
The bolts shouldn't be much of an expense, and it seems like a decent enough DIY project.😬

Jeffrey Garcia11 said:Man, are people just staying inside today? On this stretch, I usually run into at least ten cyclists, but this morning there were only two. I didn't check the thermometer, but I think it might be the coldest mile I've ever ridden. Though, maybe that's just because I skipped breakfast.

Is that Martinovka behind you?🤔

I haven't even touched my bike since the snow started falling.😢
I suppose you might havedone thisto your tires, and tomorrow it'll be the same deal with your job...
From what I can see, the trails aren't being cleared well at all. Since I ride around the Slavonian and Ljubljana areas, I really don't have much desire to be out on the road.☕

I won't be around starting Thursday. I'm heading out tomorrow, and I suppose I’m feeling a bit like a kid on Christmas eve 😬
Otherwise, it's the same routine 👍

Did you read the whole thread or just the first few posts?!

Well, there was some reaction, I suppose. But the posts where people are still mocking, judging, and being insulting are still up (and, sorry, telling someone they’ll be a bad parent ahead of time is an insult). brightpuma left, read the thread, and had the same impression, if I recall correctly ☕
The posts expressing "pity" for her child and questioning what kind of life they'll have are also still there.
To be clear, I don't entirely agree with the OP, nor do I think she did anything right in this whole situation. I'm just saying that the claim "what used to be on RID is now a thing of the past!" doesn't really hold water ☕
That's just how the welcome to the forum goes, I guess. 👍

brightpuma said:Ugh... not just that. Now I actually regret even clicking on this thread. It’s always the same when I stumble onto topics where parents from my generation are branded as bad, lazy, or impatient just because they occasionally dared to discipline their kids.

Whatever, I don't care anymore. I was naive enough to talk about how RID is "a bright spot right now." Turns out it's the exact same old story, just with different people involved. 🙄

What’s actually best? I suppose I wasn't even referring to that part of the story. 😬
It’s honestly quite amusing to watch people attempt to issue diagnoses and perform psychoanalysis based on just two or three posts. I guess it's a fascinating hobby. ☕

Peter Doyle2 said:Look, let's be honest—every rulebook is full of loopholes 😉
The global forum guidelines state that we're supposed to follow our wonderful rules across the board.
And that includes over at RID.
It’s not like we just made this rule up because of Rod 😬

If rules are being broken, I suppose it’s up to the moderators to step in, whether that means issuing a warning or a ban.
We shouldn't allow this kind of collective outrage, insults, or targeted harassment against the author. 🤷

so why the fuss? Besides, weren't almost all threads similar to this one back in the day—you know, the usual pile-ons, random chats, or workplace drama? So, I say what I say, and I feel pretty justified in saying that things on RID just aren't what they used to be. If a handful of posts make you think nothing has changed, well, I guess that’s just your perception, not necessarily the view held by most others.

It seems like nothing is ever quite right. Like, when there was that massive cleanup over the summer because everything was such a mess—people complained that the bans were rolled out way too fast.
Now, we have this tendency to try and de-escalate things with warnings instead of handing out bans left and right, and suddenly *that* isn't good enough either.

At the end of the day, the topic at hand is the reorganization of RID—not just one single thread on this entire forum.

If I see that the admin and moderator have left a warning on the thread, then I assume the "responsible" parties are reading it—that they’ve seen what's being written and chose not to react, which implies they think everything is fine. If that's the case, I suppose there's little point in reporting posts, right?

It isn't just my perception, 🤷 (to be clear, brightpuma noticed it here too, and I know a few others who feel similarly, however hollow that may sound ☕ )
And I didn't say that nothing has changed, just that it's probably not entirely a thing of the past.☕

Again, it's always something...
If we used to issue bans for things like "What on earth is happening, who knows?" with 100 points and a three-day lockout (I know at least two people who got straight permanent bans for stuff like that ☕), but today we don't ban for comments like "sorry about your kid" or calling someone paranoid—well, neither approach seems to work perfectly.☕
By the way, you know as well as I do that the previous issues were due to banning people for trivialities, not because the crackdown was too sudden.
But I guess that really is in the past, and there's likely no sense in digging it up now.😉

I suppose I agree. I'm not saying things haven't improved, but maybe it’s not entirely behind us either. This is a fresh thread, and the moderators saw it and let it develop in this—well, this specific direction.☕
It isn't just about whether women are being ganged up on or targeted; I think it's also about how much the moderators allow it and for whom. Before last fall's cleanup, this kind of thing happened, and I suspect it still does.☕
If breaking the rules regarding violence is punishable, then perhaps breaking the rules regarding insults should be as well.
rustydrifter10 said:Just a quick heads-up for everyone: this thread actually got moved over to RID after the fact. By the time it landed in our section, it had already racked up several pages and was moving at such a crazy pace. Honestly, because it was already rolling like that, it was a bit of a headache to clean up and get everything redirected properly.

All five 👍
I only started reading this once it moved over to RID, so I'm honestly not sure exactly when the move took place.
However, this and this post were both written after the RID moderators issued a warning, so it seems safe to assume the thread was already on RID by then.☕

okay?
you should come see for yourself.

and honestly, I don't really get why you're digging up the past—it feels like you're just pulling old skeletons out of the closet to make a point—but what exactly are you trying to say?
We've already laid out our direction for change and shared our vision, yet you still seem stuck on how things used to be 🤷

So, as it stands...
There still seems to be a tendency to dogpile on the newcomers. ☕
Take the thread regarding "Raising" someone else's child
It went from a simple issue involving an indifferent sister-in-law to labeling the author as a potentially unfit future parent, claiming she doesn't even like kids, and constructing a full psychological profile of the family dynamics, and so on.
Sure, she was being difficult. But I suppose one doesn't necessarily need to be torn apart like that. 🤷

It seems like everyone just runs the red, but I'm not looking to risk a fine. The cops are out in force—I actually got a warning myself recently...

I am.
I've mostly seen the police around the Potomac and Antunović stretch near the intersection with Rural, but they usually seem more focused on drivers...
That’s no guarantee they won't start targeting cyclists soon, though. 😉
But yeah, those lights are pretty terrible.

The north side isn't quite as bad, I suppose. There are a few bumps near the gas station, but nothing too major...
The sidewalk is wider there, which helps...
From there, you can cut through the engineering quad toward Branimirac, then head over to Držićev and onto Šubićev...
Email address? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
If we look at this from a technical perspective rather than a legal one, someone.something(at)gmail.com isn't an email address.

If I recall correctly, that was how the notice was phrased over at the FBI.

I suppose I should clarify: what specific phrasing is actually prohibited on this forum?
For instance, would it be considered acceptable to say my gtalk handle is someone.something@gmail.com?
Or would that count as sharing an email address?
What about someoneDOTsomethingATgmailDOTcom?
Is that technically an email address, making it forbidden?
Or if I were to say someone.something via Google?
Or perhaps mention that my nickname is identical to my Yahoo email?
Would all of those instances be deleted or flagged as private information?
I was considering going since I haven't made it out yet—mostly because I’ve been nursing some injuries after a pedestrian darted right in front of my bike on the trail (ironic, I know)—but they scheduled the start at the exact same time as the Terry Fox run. 🤦
To be honest, I’d much rather just ride two laps around the Santa Monica Pier. ☕
Plus, when I tried to leave a comment on the announcement about it, they deleted it immediately. 🙂

Then, the Admins stepped in with those yellow cards, and they actually let that simmer for a while before doing anything else.
It wasn't until much later that things finally escalated into full-blown bans and red cards.

And how exactly is that better than just using one Stickya? 🤷
I don't usually hang around the closed threads, but I have witnessed a few instances where someone was just asking "wait, what happened?" only to be hit with an immediate ban.
I suppose people simply ignored the warnings. I know I certainly didn't see them.
There is one pinned notification. Everything.
Individual warnings per topic don't really seem necessary, I guess.

hollowtrucker77 said:The forum rules and basic netiquette guidelines aren't going anywhere; they’re permanent fixtures here.
I highly doubt anyone is actually going to bother apologizing since the mods are the ones enforcing them anyway.
Let’s be real, this sub-forum has been looking pretty neglected lately, but honestly, maybe the users should take a good long look in the mirror and ask themselves why they can't manage to maintain even a shred of basic order.
And this is coming from the very people who love to parade around using titles like "mother" or "parent" as if those labels somehow grant them instant moral authority.
It really makes you wonder about the state of things...

I suppose there's really no need for anyone to apologize for following the rules.
But then again, I suppose the forum users aren't the only ones responsible for the lack of order.
Each sub-forum here seems to have its own specific purpose, I guess. I suppose that's it. It seems like there are rules that aren't being applied consistently. I suppose it's hard to say who's actually in the wrong when long-time users have just grown accustomed to a certain way of doing things. Permitted. If certain behavior hasn't been flagged or penalized for a long time, I guess it’s reasonable to assume it was actually permitted.

Changes were necessary, plain and simple.
Well, you really messed this one up.
Both in approach and execution.
Whether you want to admit it or not.

hollowtrucker77 said:The RiD is being monitored daily, and honestly, every single move made so far has been aimed at nothing but making this sub-forum better
plus, the moderators definitely know exactly what they’re doing and they aren't just winging it
it’s pretty obvious the old guard isn't thrilled about the changes, but let's be real—this place had reached a breaking point where a total overhaul was the only way out, especially since it had devolved into nothing but endless bickering and mindless chatter

1. If it was known that the long-time users wouldn't appreciate the changes, wouldn't it have been more logical to try and avoid a revolt? Perhaps by starting a thread saying, "Hey everyone, some changes are coming to the subforum, please bear with us"?
Instead of hitting them with a sledgehammer right out of the gate, especially since they're such a core part of the community?
What happened instead was that people showed up after the "sterilization" had already begun, asked what the hell was going on, and promptly got banned.
The argument that they "should have known the rules" doesn't really hold water here. They were following the rules that had been applied to them until that moment. It isn't their fault that those weren't the final rules. ☕

2. If the subforum reached a state where an overhaul was absolutely required, it implies the previous mods weren't doing their jobs properly.
If they failed to do their jobs and allowed things to get to a point requiring reconstruction, then I suppose one has to wonder why they are still moderating that subforum at all.

Just to be clear, I'm not speaking for the former RiD moderators. I am simply pointing out the flaws in the reasoning provided for why this purge is happening on RiD.

Since the R&D team seems to be tightening things up by closing or moving threads, I figured I’d steer the conversation toward a topic that probably doesn't belong here.
Homeopathy for infants and children
Maybe this belongs over in Alternative Medicine 🤷

hollowtrucker77 said:What exactly do you need me to break down for you?

Is this thread meant for things that annoy us since we became parents, or things that annoy us because of being parents?

A simple example.
I am a parent, and the heat annoys me.
Does that count as on-topic or off-topic?
Or would it be "more correct" for this subject to write—the heat annoys me because it bothers the child, or because I have to struggle with putting the child to sleep in this weather.
"Since I became a parent" would imply everything that irritates me since my child was born—whether related to the fact that I am a parent or not.
"Because I am a parent" would mean irritation caused by things specifically tied to my child or parenthood.
rustydrifter10 said:I went ahead and changed the title. Honestly, though, nitpicking every single little word isn't really getting us anywhere. I'd like to think we're all mature enough to read between the lines and catch the general point on our own.

It isn't about nitpicking. This isn't about being stubborn or rebellious or critical. It’s just an attempt to clear up a misunderstanding.
To reiterate.
I had been viewing this thread as a sort of outlet for all my frustrations. If that is no longer the case, I'd like to know—it would reduce the chances of me making a mistake, which means less work for the moderators having to delete or flag my posts.
But fine, the change in title resolves my uncertainty.
Thanks. 👍

I’ve been relatively blameless up until now. It was probably more a case of "they just haven't caught on yet" rather than me actually being innocent, but whatever.
If I want to keep it that way, I’d like some clarification on a certain ambiguity in this thread.
Specifically, it's about this:
rustydrifter10 said:The thread title is "What fully bothers, surprises, or irritates you...since becoming a parent?" Things like hating the heat or dealing with tourists have nothing to do with the fact that you're a parent.

The moderator specifically bolded the controversial part of the title.
Since becoming a parent. Not "What bothers you...because you are a parent."
I've been a parent for over a year now, and during that time, plenty of things have irritated me, including things directly related to parenthood. I saw this thread as a place where I could vent some frustrations to clear my head, so I can be (as much as 😬) normal when I'm with my kid.
So, I guess I'm just wondering if I can continue doing that here or not?
If not, I would suggest that the thread title be changed to avoid further misunderstandings.

Also, if it isn't an issue, since the DIY Projects section was moved to Arts & Crafts, could you at least change the name? The alternating caps aren't really creative. They just hurt my eyes.

Thanks.
