Man, you're definitely going to lose this bet 👋

Well, if I end up losing, I'll be sure to reach out 👍

America finally broke down on us—well, I guess we finally had to see it happen 😁

I honestly think Haas is going to eat them alive.

N/A 😁

Lewis Hamilton has the raw speed, sure, but he tends to crumble a bit when the pressure really starts to mount—he just doesn't seem to have that mental edge. On the other hand, Sebastian Vettel is incredibly quick, yet he possesses a much stronger psychological grit than Lewis, which is exactly what gives him the upper hand during those intense, nail-biting title fights.

swiftmaker12 said:So, how do you explain such a massive gap between Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel?

With Mercedes-Benz, both drivers end up on the podium equally often...
which really proves the car is top-tier—I mean, even a middle-of-the-pack driver like Rosberg 2 was fighting for the championship back then...

Whenever you see one driver completely dominating their teammate, it’s a clear sign that the car can only reach its full potential if the person behind the wheel actually has the guts to push it...

That's just not the case—Kimi was simply performing two seasons below his own standard. Let's not get carried away with those mythic narratives, shall we? Regardless, Ferrari was undeniably the second-best car on the grid. The fact that Kimi was struggling against Valtteri Bottas just to secure fourth place tells you everything you need to know: Kimi underperformed, while Sebastian Vettel drove exactly what the car was capable of, proving once again that Ferrari truly was the second-best machine out there.

There's no need to spin these fairy tales about "impossible" car handling or any other nonsense—I've had quite enough of hearing similar excuses regarding Alonso.

If you’d just give my previous post another read... I specifically mentioned that Sebastian Vettel was driving well beyond the car's actual capabilities

.

I know exactly what you wrote, and I have to say—I think you've missed the mark on this one.

swiftmaker12 said:Sebastian Vettel had about 12 or 13 podiums last year—I can't recall the exact number and I really can't be bothered to look it up—while Kimi only managed two...
which implies that Seb was driving well beyond the car's actual limits—just look at Spa last year, where he was driving so aggressively he was practically shredding his tires over those curbs—
whereas Kimi was clearly performing way below par...

Having the second fastest car on the grid and grabbing 12 podiums isn't "driving above the car's limits" by any stretch of the imagination. Let's not get carried away with the myths here. Kimi was simply driving far below what the Ferrari was capable of delivering.

.

Honestly, I think we should take all these testing numbers and lap times with a massive grain of salt.

Oh, just ignore Tibidragi—you can see they're just talking nonsense, and honestly, they've already filled two whole pages with it.

That’s just one of those beautiful things about F1—you really have to take your hat off to the engineers and give them a massive round of applause. That specific setup handles 200kg of downforce without breaking a sweat.

Looks like McLaren is lagging behind at the top end of the speed trap.

Williams No2 ?

I see you’ve settled back into your usual routine of endless, repetitive trolling—classic.

Well, we’ll just have to wait until qualifying and the race actually get underway to see how things really shake out.

We have no clue who’s running on full fuel loads and who isn't—not to mention we don't know if they're testing specific setups or components.
The one thing we do know for sure is that the Americans aren't having any reliability issues. And despite missing out on the afternoon session, Ferrari actually clocked the fastest time on the medium compound during Kimi's first outing. Ferrari definitely has the raw pace—the real question remains whether they can actually finish the race without something breaking.

17:35 Raikkonen just passed Hamilton on track through Turn 1. ☕

😬 😁

Honestly, Tibi, you need to just chill out with all these predictions... you’re putting way too much energy into sessions that don't actually tell us much during testing. If only everyone would run their race simulations with the exact same fuel loads—then we might actually have something meaningful to compare.

Your forecasts are getting a little "out there"—as if FI is suddenly going to be a completely different squad.

I can't help but wonder—is the ultrasoft actually providing any real advantage over the supersoft on a track layout like this one?

I really wish Ferrari would at least provide some kind of insight regarding why they aren't showing up.

In those simulations, Nico Rosberg was consistently putting up laps that were faster than Sebastian Vettel's.
We're talking about a gap of over a second per lap—and that’s on the exact same tire compound.

I could only find two data points to go on—Sebastian Vettel clocked 23 laps while Nico Rosberg did 14—which doesn't really give us the full story since Sebastian was clearly running a much heavier fuel load. I'm not quite fluent in German, so if you were looking at a different stint than the one I found, feel free to paste it here.

Jason Campbell70 said:Exactly, and their rate of improvement seems much more pronounced than Ferrari's.
For McLaren-Honda, the goal is simply to climb out of the back of the pack.
For Ferrari, the goal is to win the championship.

Well, climbing away from the tail end is a lot easier than trying to snatch a title when you're facing a level of dominance we haven't seen since 1988.

Jason Campbell70 said:That sounds like a comment coming from a biased fan perspective.

I don't quite see what you mean by that; the reality is that Ferrari's Engine was solid and reliable last year, so I don't understand why the AlphaTauri lap count is such a shocker. It's actually pretty expected, especially when you consider that AlphaTauri is a very capable outfit—they did a fantastic job over the last few seasons, so they can only go up from here this year.
2016 Car Launch and Pre-season Testing in Formula 1 ·
Jason Campbell70 said:Lap times matter immensely—but not when they're presented this way.

The real story lies in analyzing a steady stint of 20-30 laps on the medium tires, or perhaps some shorter bursts on the softs... that's where you find the truth.

Well, I suppose we really need to dig into those specific data points before drawing any real conclusions. As it stands, it’s far too easy to say that Nico Rosberg could have easily clocked a 1:24.8 in the Mercedes with 20kg of fuel, while Sebastian Vettel put up a 1:24.9 yesterday using that same component with more or less fuel—so... yeah.

Jason Campbell70 said:Regarding that particular point, McLaren-Honda and AlphaTauri actually did a much better job.

McLaren-Honda really only had room to move upward—there wasn't any way for them to go lower. Meanwhile, Ferrari was facing the genuine risk of a total disaster given how different this new concept is compared to last season.

AlphaTauri is running last year's Ferrari engine, which was actually quite reliable, so I don't see anything particularly revolutionary happening there.
