Honestly, you just walk straight up to the front office of whatever club you're eyeing and ask for a trial.
It’s way easier if you already have a buddy on the roster who can put in a good word for you or at least head over there with you so you don't look like some random guy off the street. You’ll likely get your shot right before preseason kicks off, and you’ll basically have about a week to prove you aren't a total waste of space so they actually sign you to a contract or whatever deal you're chasing. If you actually nail it, you're riding with them through the whole preseason tour.

Bottom line is, you better be in game shape already and ready to demand that tryout, though it helps if you've got a resume or some kind of "recommendation" from guys already on the team to back you up.

On a different note, I was actually wondering if anyone has any solid comedy recommendations? For the past year, I've been stuck in a loop of nothing but horror, heavy dramas, and intense thrillers. It feels like an absolute eternity since I last sat down to enjoy a genuinely good comedy.

It's like watching ten minutes of a movie and deciding the whole thing is trash.

Well, that’s exactly what the pilot is for! I mean, if the first episode is such absolute garbage that I spent more time scrolling through my phone than actually looking at the screen, then I just don't have the energy to keep going, especially nowadays when there's a massive selection of great shows out there that I might actually enjoy, so why on earth would I bother struggling through something that feels mediocre or just plain meh?

I'm not saying the whole show is trash, but it definitely didn't win me over.

Larry Fox5 said:So, I just finished Breaking Bad and saw all this hype around The Wire—read through some forum threads too—and man, I was totally riding that wave... honestly thought I’d stumbled onto some absolute diamond of a show because the reviews were insane, not to mention how everyone kept insisting it actually tops Breaking Bad...

And then I hit the biggest disappointment of my entire TV-watching life. I forced myself to watch The Wire three times—seriously, three times—thinking maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace or something... especially since The Wire was one of my all-time favorites... but nope... a total waste of time...

I’m honestly about two seconds away from just muting all these "critics"... such a massive waste of my damn time... 😠

That’s exactly how I handled Deadwood. The comments were unbelievable—everyone acting like it was this flawless masterpiece, boasting about an 8.8 rating on IMDb. So, I download it, fire up the first episode, barely make it through, shut the TV off, and delete the whole damn series immediately.😁

Is there even anything good left to watch? I honestly feel like we’re never going to see this many incredible shows hitting the screen at the exact same time ever again. I’m dead serious about it. Because Netflix blew up and made all that garbage mainstream, networks finally realized they actually had to put money into TV, so now almost every series feels like a damn feature film.

I won't even get started on how we’ve gone from space-age tech being locked away in some NASA lab to basically everyone having it in their pockets within just a few decades. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that greed is constantly holding us back, imagine where we actually would have been by now.

Why would you take that as an insult? I actually agree with your perspective and what brightpilot6 mentioned; I was simply curious if you had any additional arguments to support your stance. It’s true that Hawking’s insights are fascinating, which is precisely why I brought up his thoughts on extraterrestrial life—I wanted to see what everyone thought about the potential nature of such beings.

Speaking of which, have you seen In the Universe with Stephen Hawking (Secrets of the Universe)? It covers Aliens, Time Travel, and The Story of Everything.

Look, I’m watching this all unfold, but honestly, I don't even know how to respond to that. It just feels like he’s incredibly bitter toward everyone, and frankly, it seems like you actually enjoy seeing him that way. 🤣 Man, that was just a tiny little room.

I honestly just hope that once you finally reach that level where you can actually pull off intergalactic flights, you might somehow stumble into a higher state of spiritual consciousness too.

Keith Miller30 said:What does any of that have to do with God? As a believer myself, I don't necessarily view us as some uniquely privileged species. If we're being honest and look at the Bible, wouldn't you say it actually suggests the opposite—take Ezekiel’s visions, for instance, which many interpret as descriptions of extraterrestrial encounters? No one is really claiming we are a singular, special case.

I only asked because I find it a bit exhausting when everyone falls back on that same old cliché—the idea that because the universe is so unimaginably vast, there simply must be someone else out there. While there is certainly logic to that thought, I was merely curious if you had anything more substantial to add to the conversation.

Personally, I find myself much more preoccupied with the nature of these visitors: would they be peaceful neighbors or something more predatory, how advanced might their technology truly be, and is there a chance they might attempt to subjugate us?

Look, I wasn't trying to insult you or anything like that, I was just trying to point out that we aren't special by any metric, and if we were created by God, then fine, maybe that makes us unique and alone, but that's all I was getting at, so please don't take it the wrong way.

And honestly, I’d give you a much better explanation if one actually existed, but if it did, I wouldn't be sitting here struggling to explain it to you, would I? 🤣
Just like brightpilot6 said, we don't know jack, our telescopes are probably amateur hour at best, we can barely even see the stars properly, and even when we do look at a star, we aren't seeing it in "real time"—we're looking at ghosts from the past depending on how far away they are, plus, as far as I know, we belong to one of the youngest galaxies out there.
So the only real argument for us not being alone is the fact that the universe is infinite, insanely old, and likely packed with a bunch of planets just like ours, and besides, isn't it a little creepy to think we might be completely solo in this entire massive void?

And hey, there could be pretty much any scenario you can dream up, ranging from some empire "harvesting" planets and wiping us out, to them enslaving us, or even protecting us. 🤷
Take Star Trek, for instance; they have this beautiful Prime Directive concept that I really wish was true, where they just stay hands-off until a civilization is ready for contact.
But who knows, even Stephen Hawking was terrified of contact because he thought they’d probably be aggressive.

Jessica Gonzalez said:Based on what I’ve picked up over the years, I guess it isn't just about how many planets are out there. It feels more like life is driven by chemistry, which relies on a handful of simple compounds that we know are scattered all throughout the universe. We've even found the building blocks for organic molecules on things like space debris or comets, not to mention water being everywhere. So, maybe life is actually pretty common since those same elements will likely trigger similar processes wherever they turn up.

But that *is* math, plain and simple.😁

You're talking about probability, which means the "same" conditions we have here on Earth exist on countless other planets, plus you're claiming bacteria, viruses, or whatever else can just hitch a ride on comets!!!
And the whole argument basically assumes that carbon-based lifeforms are the only way to go in the entire universe.

Jessica Gonzalez said:I guess all of that just had something to do with those ancient astronaut theories; they're just extremes. There wasn't some outside hand helping us along, either—thousands of generations worked incredibly hard through blood and sweat to get us to where we are today, under this triple crown.

Like I already said, it's not even about whether they helped us or not, it's just about how these ideas can nudge you to actually ponder things you probably wouldn't give a second thought to otherwise.

And hey, I guess we're not allowed to dream anymore, are we?🙂

Keith Miller30 said:Why would you assume we are? Just so we can get on the same page, I personally lean toward the idea that we aren't alone, but I find myself wondering if your reasoning will simply be "the universe is too massive for us to be the only ones," or if you have a more nuanced perspective in mind.☕

The short version: It's because we aren't some divine masterpiece or some special little creation, so we aren't "special" in that sense, and while I can't prove it yet, obviously all the math points that way.

The long version:

Trying to count the stars in the universe is basically like attempting to count every single grain of sand on a California beach—it's just impossible. Even though experts can't agree on the exact numbers, the general consensus is that there are at least between 100 billion and 200 billion galaxies in our universe. Just wrap your head around that for a second, and then realize there are billions of stars inside every single one of those galaxies! (source) For all we know, that number could easily be in the trillions.

Look at the Milky Way, for instance; it stretches about 120,000 light-years across (meaning it would take light that many years to cross it) and packs in up to 400 billion stars. Again, we're talking about billions upon billions of galaxies, each stuffed with billions of stars. (source)

Astronomers estimate there are at least 10 billion Earth-sized planets that could potentially support life within the Milky Way alone (and that's just one galaxy out of billions), but you really have to keep an open mind about the kinds of environments or conditions some unknown alien life forms might actually thrive in. They definitely wouldn't all need to be exactly like Earth.

When you consider how massive the universe—or the multiverse, if you prefer that term—really is, the odds are stacked heavily against us being alone.

And there goes another terrible analogy. What are you even talking about with aliens?
People just start making up this absolute nonsense whenever they don't have a real answer, and honestly, watching the same tired tropes being recycled over and over is just freaking hilarious 👍
plus this whole new damn 🙏 I'm not going to waste my breath trying to educate you 🤣 🤣 hahahahah

If you actually had a single coherent argument to keep this conversation going, I bet you’d be bragging about it here for three pages straight, so please, stop trying to sell me that garbage.
Besides, you already missed the mark from the jump because I never mentioned some alien invasion or anything like that; I was just saying that reading Von Daniken was what first got my gears turning on the subject. I wasn't using him as an example of relativity or whatever else you're tripping on, he was just my starting point for thinking about the topic.

Honestly, part of me wishes I were some kind of alien experiment just so they’d finally show themselves, but hey, life sucks and nothing's happening.

By the way, buddy, you totally dodged my question about the origin stories and how these buildings actually look alike, but hey, I guess it’s much easier to just spout nonsense than to actually give me a straight answer. 👍
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
Man, you are such a clown. Did I ever actually say those two had to be involved? Did I once mention anything about aliens intervening in the whole situation?
But no, you’re just one of those obnoxious "know-it-all" types who clearly doesn't have a clue what they're even reading here.👍

And honestly, if you truly believe we’re just floating around this massive universe all by ourselves, 🙏 🙏
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
So, it’s perfectly fine with you that ancient people were just living in underground cities and carving massive structures right into the rock faces and churches out of solid stone, but I guess that’s just too hard for you to wrap your head around.
Fine then, if we're playing that game, I'll just pull out the Bible and use it as my primary evidence.

And look, this isn't even about aliens for me—it's about the fact that things didn't just magically happen because someone decided to build them, okay? I want to understand how they actually knew about *certain stars*, how on earth they could observe and calculate those kinds of things, and why civilizations all over the globe share these almost identical origin stories and architectural styles.

graniteheron132 said:They must have had aliens teaching them. What kind of stuff could they possibly know more about than us???

Look, that's exactly the problem here—you're just jumping straight to nonsense when I didn't even imply any of that, and honestly, you're being incredibly rude, so I wouldn't even bother responding if I weren't feeling generous, but fine, I'll give you a few hints: stars, planets, solar eclipses, solstices, even certain ancient monuments and all that good stuff.

@Jessica Gonzalez By the way, I'm not talking about 2015. That comparison doesn't make any sense, but hey, like you said, time is relative, and a couple hundred years ago is basically just now.
