But look, I get it. If I show up here peddling some crappy survey results or trying to lecture people on stuff I don't even do myself—like talking about anal sex—I know exactly what's gonna happen. No matter how polite I try to be about it, I'm just asking for a fight from the die-hard enthusiasts who live and breathe this topic.
That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Yeah, I guess I did end up sliding into the anal discussion, didn't I? 😁

Not that I care, just saying.

Well, swingers obviously—it's their territory, after all. It's not like anyone else is being forced to peek into their business. 😳

Sam Jones8 said:Honestly, I think saying that on LJS would actually be considered the unpopular move. 😬

She’d probably be surprised 😁 given how the swinging scene usually works—it seems like people there are mostly just trying to salvage something that’s already broken. They spend all this time defending themselves, acting as if they haven't truly experienced real love until they've shared their partner with someone else. 😳

Sam Jones8 said:I get it. But does getting a divorce really mean there was never any love there to begin with? 😁

Maybe I'm just tripping.
Here's my unpopular opinion: monogamous people who decide to open up their marriages—thinking it'll somehow strengthen their bond or take things to a whole new level 🙄—are actually just desperately trying to patch up something that's already falling apart...

That isn't an unpopular opinion; it's a cliché.😳 The unpopular one would be the opposite.😳

Sam Jones8 said:No, no, no. Look, you claimed that people who hug everyone don't actually hug anyone. Sure, you were exaggerating, but that line of yours kind of implies that if we hug people who aren't super close to us, it somehow cheapens those other 😍 hugs. Right?
So you only hug people who are incredibly close to you, your inner circle, your "people." I’m not even going to ask you—because that would be rude (and honestly not even that relevant to this debate)—if you’ve ever slept with someone who wasn't your person, because, hey, maybe you just weren't feeling it...? 😬
Let's just leave that as a rhetorical question.

Some people only hug their inner circle, some hug people they know slightly better, and some will even give a stranger a hug...
Some people can only sleep with people who are strictly their own, while for others, that isn't even a requirement... Or, they might do both (over the course of their lives, obviously without overlapping).

Anyway, what do you think about this parallel way of doing things? And I'm not just talking about cheating (that would be too easy), but say, something consensual. A couple that's been monogamous for a long time decides they can sleep around, as long as they come home to each other at the end of the day... They feel like they still love each other, maybe even more, because their bond and partnership are actually stronger since they grant each other that freedom.
Supposedly, marriages like Belluca and Cassel, or Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith...

Aren't exactly the happiest examples, given they ended in divorce 😳

I suppose you could call me a serial hugger 😳
I’m hugging my kids, my husband, even the cat—hell, maybe even a tree at this point 😁
Look, I love hugging the people close to me, and I do it often—but beyond that, I don't really let anyone else into my personal bubble. If we aren't close, I'd prefer everyone to stay at least five feet away from me 😳

feralranger said:Is your boyfriend or husband—and I shall refrain from using the word "partner," if you please 😁—actually a good lover and a true friend to you? Because if he is, what could possibly be more important than all that (Eros and Philia), other than splitting the rent and paying off the mortgage?

I honestly have no idea who you are or what your deal is, but I am perfectly capable of defending my own points. If you find that problematic, then that is entirely your burden to bear. If you had something relevant to contribute to the actual topic, you could have simply said it, couldn't you? Rather than attempting to manufacture a sentence that nobody actually uttered, just so you can argue with your own fabrication and toss out a facepalm emoji.

You said it, and it's on the record. 🐔

feralranger said:I haven't "clung" to anything out of sheer stupidity; rather, my responses simply tend to fall outside the standard mold, which leads the usual conformists in these groups to jump on my posts quite frequently—though I make it a point to reply to everyone. Do you truly believe I should just ignore such forum users and treat them as fools unworthy of a response? 🤷

For instance, why did you go out of your way to plant that specific sentence, acting as if someone had actually uttered it? (I am not expecting an answer, but I do expect you to give it some thought.)

Well, you are stuck—that's why we're wasting time debating idiots instead of staying on topic. 😁

feralranger said:Precisely; quite a lot of people are essentially living through a state of emotional poverty within their marriages or long-term relationships, which has caused the concept of being a "mistress" to become entirely decoupled from the actual marital bond. It’s no wonder we’re seeing such a massive surge in domestic partnerships and prenuptial agreements lately.

If my own relationship is woven together by genuine passion and deep, soulful friendship—that beautiful blend of Eros and Philia—then I certainly refuse to reduce it to a mere "partnership," a "joint venture," or some clinical "cooperative arrangement."

I mean, as a layman, I’ve managed to stumble my way into a few legal skirmishes, including one rather landmark dispute against a particularly arrogant and predatory mega-corporation, but when it comes to matters of the heart, I simply cannot abide reducing love to such transactional terminology.

Look at this, what you're saying... it's all "eroticism this," "philia that," I'm the aristocrat while you commoners have no clue what love actually is. That's how your post reads to me. 😳

feralranger said:Nobody even claimed that bolded sentence was true, so feel free to give yourself a massive facepalm since your comment was entirely misplaced to begin with. 😁

Maybe not, but you seem stuck on this whole 'partner' thing like some kind of simpleton. You're suggesting people are romantically destitute if they tell a plumber, "Oh, my partner might get back to you," 😁

Of course, I don't fall into that category of the needy. I tell the plumber: if the king of my universe, the apple of my eye, and my sexual God feels like reaching out, he will. 😁

When it comes to romance, I guess it doesn't really matter what label you use for the person you love when you're around others.
It’s not like you suddenly become more romantic just because you tell some coworker, "Hey, this is my mistress." 🙂

I can't make heads or tails of this—looks like total gibberish.
Maybe it's just some keyboard smashing, or perhaps a glitch in the system. Either way, it doesn't mean much to me. 🙂

Creative challenge: Fight or struggle? in Off-topic ·
Great topic, Cat 👍 here’s a quick one—not sure if I’ll have the bandwidth for something more substantial later. 😁

The biggest struggle is dealing with anxiety
when fear catches me off guard
making me think there’s some malicious disease inside me.
I immediately start Googling symptoms
and digging through all sorts of medical sites.
While reading in a panic,
I find myself wondering if this really is the end,
as my brain starts spiraling into total overdrive.
My whole life flashes before my eyes
while I sit there praying
that tomorrow morning actually comes.
Then, eventually, the hype dies down
and
calmness slowly returns.
It’s a constant, exhausting struggle—
so much so that, during these battles,
my forehead gets lined with tension.
Anyone who says it’s easy
or claims this isn't a real hardship
clearly doesn't understand what it's like
when your head starts burning from sheer terror.
That’s why I consider myself a brave lion;
I constantly repeat my mantras
because I guess only truly strong people can
take their own fear every single day
and shoot it in the foot.
