Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I wouldn't say that's quite the case... I stuck with Windows 10 for about six months and it was decent enough, but the constant stream of updates was driving me absolutely insane. Eventually, I just gave up and moved back to Windows 8, which has actually been working out fine for me so far.
Windows 7 was also pretty solid if you ask me.

Or maybe check with a local repair shop; they might have some "premium" batteries sitting on a shelf somewhere. Then again, almost everything we buy these days is manufactured in China anyway, so... let's just hope it's good enough that the whole computer doesn't go up in flames over a tiny little battery, haha.
There used to be one over by Times Square, specifically on that street that connects Broadway and 7th Avenue—if I’m remembering the layout right. Some guy totally ripped me off there, though. Honestly, I have no clue if they're even still open.
Issues booting up Windows 8.1 in IT Support ·
That’s a possibility, but I’m struggling to wrap my head around how the Windows boot files could just vanish mid-stream and cause a total freeze right after everything loads into RAM. If you were to wipe out all the boot files while the system is running, it should technically keep functioning until those files are flushed from the RAM—meaning it wouldn't actually crash until you tried to reboot, right? Am I missing something here?

Have you checked your BIOS settings to make sure it’s actually set to boot from the hard drive? I honestly can't wrap my head around how else that setting would flip on its own... Also, did you just finish installing Windows, or have you been running it for a while without any issues? If this is a fresh installation, we might be looking at some kind of software glitch within Windows itself rather than a hardware failure.
PC running slow in IT Support ·
If we're talking about a pirated version, maybe there's some weird software glitch buried deep in Windows itself, but if everything was running smoothly until now, I really doubt that's the culprit. I’m still leaning towards the idea that the processor finally kicked the bucket. :/

But what if the bottleneck isn't actually the GPU? From what I can gather, you’re having trouble just opening basic files and folders on your PC, which doesn't really have much to do with graphics performance—it's certainly not like you're trying to run some massive, resource-heavy visual software.
Touchpad issues in Laptops ·
I ran into this exact same headache once and even posted about it on the forums. It’s one of those silly little things where you get a brand-new laptop, you're still getting used to the layout, and you accidentally disable the trackpad without realizing it...
the important thing is that the issue is sorted out now.😉

Missing HDD in Hardware ·
Man, if it’s not showing up in Disk Management, then it isn't even hitting the BIOS. You might want to double-check those connections really thoroughly... honestly, this is exactly why you should always have a solid backup of your important files ready to go.
PC won't boot up - help needed! in Hardware ·
Honestly, it could be anything from a simple overload to a thermal issue. You might want to grab something like Speccy or a similar utility; those tools can pull temperature readings for pretty much every component in your rig—motherboard, hard drive, CPU, RAM, GPU... I’m not entirely positive if it hits every single one or just most of them, but you'll get a good idea. I’ve even heard stories where if you have way too many fans running at once, the system might actually trip a circuit or shut down right at startup due to the power draw, though don't quote me on that.
I was wondering if they actually do blood work during those occupational health screenings you have to go through when enrolling in high school? Specifically, I'm curious if there's any way for them to tell from a blood test that I'm a smoker.

If anyone has some solid, verified info on this, I’d really appreciate it. 😁 👍👍
Hey there,

Does anyone know how to go about updating Google Chrome? I've hit a bit of a wall because it keeps telling me that the Administrator has disabled updates, and honestly, I have no clue how to get around those settings :S I'm running on Windows 8
Any help would be huge!

Sure... honestly, everyone loves to complain about how difficult things are, but it’s really just a matter of anyone actually putting in the effort to figure out where to go and how to find a solution if they actually cared to look.
Microsoft Word help!? in IT Support ·
coppersailor28 said:If this glitch only triggers when you add a period, try right-clicking on the table and unchecking the box next to "Optical Character Recognition" (that third option from the bottom).

Thanks 😁
I probably wouldn't have figured that out on my own, haha
Can't download anything—any fixes? in IT Support ·
I mean, there’s a chance your antivirus software might be throwing a wrench in things,
making it think something suspicious is happening when it isn't. Or, you could just be running into some corrupted folders—you know, those half-baked files that get stuck mid-download—though honestly, if this is happening with absolutely everything you try to grab, that seems pretty unlikely.

Have you thought about just using a torrent client instead? You can find basically anything on those various pirate sites, so I’m certain you’d be able to track down any standard programs you're looking for without the headache.
Microsoft Word help!? in IT Support ·
So, here’s the headache I'm dealing with: I'm currently working on a schedule in Microsoft Word, specifically setting up a timetable. When I'm typing out the sequence for the hours—say, I type "1." and then move my mouse away to get that little blinking cursor 😉—the software decides to be "helpful" and automatically converts that "1." into a date like "09/01/14." It keeps doing this with every single number I try to enter. :/

Does anyone know if there's a way to just kill this feature entirely?
Thanks 😁
Problem solved 😁

Thanks again 😉
Thanks 🙂
So I just went to check, and it looks like I have the exact same thing as you—that little rectangular box sitting right there on that top line...

I didn't grab a screenshot of that part, but there's actually another window that pops up right after the first one. Here’s what I'm seeing:

Hopefully, this gives you a bit more to work with...

Anyway, thanks so much for putting in the effort here. 😁
