I think you can only pair it with the HD 6670 DDR3 version, since that's what the system memory uses.

So, something like this...?

Yeah, I wouldn't touch the PCI Express settings—that's probably not a good idea. You can mess around with the Intel Front Side Bus and the FSB: DRAM ratio, just be careful so you don't accidentally fry your RAM frequency.😬
It’s a bit weaker than the Intel Core i3-4130 and the multiplier is locked, though I guess you could still try some overclocking via the Intel Front Side Bus. If you're pairing it with some cheap mATX motherboard, I probably wouldn't pick it up for $233.

It's the same deal as with a steering wheel 😬

Maybe it helps you out by half a second when it comes to consistency—especially if you're switching over from some heavy-duty setup that costs $400—but honestly, it’s nothing special. At the end of the day, 95% of the skill is just you.

Anyway, this is turning into one of those chat topics that gets everyone banned 🤣

Also... I actually had a pretty good time playing with this one too.

You should definitely overclock it. It’s basically identical to the AMD Athlon II X4 series, just running at a higher clock speed. I actually managed to bump mine from 2.6GHz up to 3.3GHz without even touching the voltage. I guess hitting 3.6GHz shouldn't be an issue for you either, though you might need to nudge the voltage up a bit. Just make sure to increase the FSB in small increments...

The R9 280X is only about 15% faster, so I don't think it's really worth it.$200In my opinion, you shouldn't skimp too much on the other 4 or 5 components.

So why cram an R9 280X into an mATX case with a pricey H81 board?

If you're grabbing an XFX R9 280 Black Edition specifically to overclock it up to R9 280X levels—which is basically $200—then I guess you really ought to get a decent case, maybe spend a few extra bucks on a B85 motherboard, grab a power supply with significantly better voltage regulation and lower ripple, and perhaps even an SSD (it ends up being around $1750).

Man 😁 I don't know, everything seems a bit disorganized here.

What else is in the build? Give me the full specs.

Maybe a light OC on the CPU... maybe up to 3.6GHz, paired with an HD 7850, GTX 660, or an HD 7870, I guess.

I’d say the AMD Radeon R9 280 is probably the better bet.

Just please don't go with that power supply... I wouldn't even put that in a $1000 basic build. As for everything else, I guess I'll just stay quiet.
I mean, if you aren't even doing anything and they're sitting at around 120°F, they are a little high, I guess. They really shouldn't be crossing the 165°F mark.

You didn't even need the cooler... 😉

The case is a little subpar, but I guess it'll do. It might be a good idea to pop a single fan in the front—maybe a 140mm or a 120mm, though I wouldn't go over 1000 RPM if I were you.
LGA 1156 motherboard issues? in Desktops ·
It’s a rare socket because nobody really wants to part with them while they're still running high-end CPUs. It won't fit into an LGA 1155 slot, and I can't seem to find any new ones for sale anywhere... I guess your only real option is to ask someone selling a full rig if they'll throw in a motherboard, though they could probably just get more value by breaking it down into individual parts 😬

So 👍

I've definitely been in those situations before 😁

Even if we're drifting into off-topic territory now 😬

There's an ISI_2012 Formula mod for rFactor 2, and I think there's an RFT 2013 one too (though I'm not sure how demanding it is), but honestly, rF1 feels like a total baby compared to rF2. Especially regarding the racing line and grip—the difference when you're off-line is massive, making overtaking way more difficult... I definitely agree about CM games.

My old setup was a Driving Force gt, and I don't think a G25 is actually that much better. I’d probably just stick with the Driving Force gt and try to hunt down some Fanatec pedals to pair with it instead. But hey, if you aren't planning on competing at a pro level, you probably don't need them; a cheap G25 should work fine.

Thanks, crimsonstag84. I’m picking up the PC on Monday—it doesn't have a dedicated GPU yet, but if I'm reading this right, that i5 has integrated graphics. I guess I can just run off the onboard video for a bit until I track down a decent used card.

I think I spotted a GTX 660 at Best Buy for a decent price. $333 It's used, but still has about a year of warranty left. I think there's an R9 270X listed on eBay for... $333 It’s from MSI.

I guess what crimsonstag84 put together is really the only way to go. But honestly, what’s the deal with AMD?

I've been diving pretty deep into this lately. 😬

Yeah, there's an onboard graphics chip you could probably make use of.

The GTX 660 should be fine, though you’ll probably have to dial back a few settings compared to what you'd get with a GTX 760. I'd personally steer clear of the AMD cards, since they don't seem to play as nicely with rF2.

I mean, you can get by with an FX 6300, I guess, but you always end up losing out in the long run.$67 It’s actually cheaper than the i5 version, plus you're starting out with a better processor. I guess you should probably look into overclocking it, too.
A friend of mine is running an FX 6300 paired with a GTX 760, and compared to my setup with an Intel Core i5-4440 and a GTX 760, he’s seeing about 10-15% lower FPS. It’s kind of weird, especially since rF2 and Assetto Corsa don't really push more than four cores that hard—I mean, rF2 barely even touches two.

P.S. Just so you know I’m being serious—check this out. 😁

crimsonstag84 said:-$167In that case, you could just grab a 1TB Toshiba drive, an XFX 550 w power supply, and a Zalman Z3 case. With those parts, you'd have a setup that's almost identical to this one. I guess you'd see rFactor 2 running on high HDR OFF with AA x2 at 1680x1050, probably hitting 150+ FPS consistently—maybe even up to 350 FPS on certain tracks. Assetto Corsa might run a little less smoothly than that, though.

I forgot to mention that I actually have an external USB hard drive, but if it’s possible to go with an SSD instead—I've heard they're way faster. Sorry about that!

That’s just how it goes, I guess.$67But if you grab a used graphics card, I guess you’re still staying within budget. It would probably look something like this:

I guess I picked up an Intel Core i5-4440, 3.1GHz, Haswell at Best Buy.
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D2V mATX motherboard (LGA 1150, DDR3, VGA/DVI, USB 3.0/USB 2.0, LAN, SATA III/SATA II) Retail
Crucial DDR3 8GB 1600MHz memory, original Retail.
I guess I'm looking at the Zalman Z3 mid tower case.
Thinking about picking up an XFX 550 w power supply? This one features EasyRail technology—it’s the P1-550S-XXB9 model.
SanDisk X110 128GB SSD, 2.5" 7mm, SATA 6Gbps. Sequential Read/Write speeds sit at 505 MB/s and 445 MB/s respectively, with a max IOPS of 81,000. It uses MLC memory and comes in the Retail version.

Total comes to $3.$220

Then you could just pick up a used GTX 760 for maybe $130 or so.$467.
