I’d suggest overclocking that quad core a bit; it might be causing a slight bottleneck since the clock speed is pretty low. With the stock cooler, you could probably push it to at least 2.6 GHz 🙂

Maybe even cheaper, as long as they work with my motherboard!! Thanks in advance!!!
Maybe just this one... it's slightly more expensive, but the fan seems better and it's a bit more powerful
Sapphire usually feels a bit more premium... most of those low-end cards have pathetic fans and just mediocre build quality. It’s definitely weaker than the GeForce GTS 250, but in that specific bracket, you don't really have many options... maybe an HD 6670 with GDDR3 that sits around $133? Or maybe something closer to $167?

🤦
We really need to nail down the exact model, though it's probably just that Pentium D... maybe try running Speccy and let us know what it says. As for the power supply, just pop off the side panel of the case and check the label. You might as well blow out the dust while you're at it if it's been a while. 😛
Or maybe go with what fadedorca66 suggested in that second scenario... though I'd probably swap in a P31-G3 board since it's a bit better and actually has PCI-ex 3.0 🙂

I guess I might just grab a processor now and wait about two months to pick up a motherboard if that's what it takes.
What kind of CPU could I pick up right now for around $333, and how much would a matching motherboard run me down the road?
You’re going to need a new platform (socket)—either AM3 (AM3+) or LGA 1155 (motherboard + CPU combo). There isn't really anything left to buy for the 775 socket; it's a dead end, and honestly, the used prices are just way too high.
James Ortiz said:If anyone can help me out, I'm looking for a processor in the $800 range.$333I'm thinking about picking up something new, but I'm also wondering if it makes sense to just grab something used. If you think it's worth it, I'd love some recommendations.
Maybe a dual-core at 2.60 GHz? I guess that could work. ASUS P5G41T-M LX3 2 Maybe two 4GB sticks of DDR3? Maybe a 400W power supply would work. The Radeon HD 6670 with 1 GB of DDR5.
I don't think it's worth picking up a used quad core; they just feel overpriced to me. I'd honestly rather save up a bit more cash and, once winter rolls around, grab a solid AM3+ motherboard paired with an AMD FX Vishera processor.
Budget power supplies like Delta Electronics, EVGA SuperNOVA, or maybe some FSP Group units can get the job done. But brands like Linkworld, Intel, Microsoft, Logitech, or Maze... those are basically just overpriced junk. 😛

Here is my current setup.
Budget is between $100 and $150.
Any recommendations?
With that budget, I don't think you'll see a massive jump in performance over the GTX 460. You might need to stretch a little further if you want something noticeable:
The first one (GTX 560 Ti) is a bit faster, plus it has better cooling and a longer warranty. The second one (GTX 560) is pretty much on par with the HD 6870, I guess.😉
I'm looking for a new GPU. I've always been partial to AMD, but if Nvidia has something better out there, I'm open to that too.
My current setup is: CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K, 3700 MHz (18.5 x 200) Motherboard - EVGA Z77 System memory - 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 GPU - Nvidia GTX 460, 1GB GDDR5 PSU - Xilence 700W
I play at 1920x1080 resolution. My budget is roughly $100 to $150. Right now, I'm weighing up the 7770 versus the 6870, but I’d love some advice from the pros—and I'm willing to jump ship to Nvidia if they offer more bang for my buck.
It’s possible you’ve just hit a wall, or maybe you need a bit more voltage. Though, I wouldn't mess with that until you have a new cooler installed. If you're planning on sticking with this motherboard and ProCom long-term, you probably ought to dial it back a little; it isn't exactly great for the hardware. I think it only has a 3+1 or maybe a 4+1 phase design and lacks any decent passive cooling. 😉
Are you overclocking just for the fun of it, or do you actually need the extra speed for something specific? 😛
Jacob Rodriguez43 said:Would that card actually work on my motherboard and everything? I mean, would it fit?
Well, it’s got a PCI-e slot... that's really all you need. This card doesn't pull much power, so I guess you probably won't even need to upgrade your PSU.😛
