Man... honestly, it’s not even all that bad:

This one should definitely work, provided you can manage a BIOS update to the latest version if you can track it down. 😬

Honestly, throwing money at that NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 feels like a waste... the chip is just too weak for actual gaming. You might want to tackle the processor and RAM first to see how things run, but I'm guessing you'll almost certainly need a new GPU eventually.

I can't find a CPU support list anywhere for this motherboard, which is a bit of a headache... it mentions supporting Intel Core 2 Quad processors, but it doesn't specify which ones exactly.

I think this is a pretty solid deal and would be a massive upgrade. Plus, there’s a GPU with a warranty available, maybe something like this:

This seems like a solid deal, and honestly, it's quite a bit more powerful than what you're running right now.

They pulled him from the race in the interim 😵

That price is honestly ridiculous 😬

Even this isn't exactly a steal. You can find a GTX 1060 for less than $867.

PC-4000 memory, 8 GB, GEIL EVO Spear GSB48GB2400C16DC, DDR4 2400MHz, 2x4GB kit
It’s a 1TB Western Digital Blue hard drive—SATA3, 7200 RPM, with a 64MB cache. It's a standard 3.5" desktop drive, I guess.
It’s a 500W Chieftec Proton Series unit, specifically the BDF-500S. It runs on ATX v2.3, features a 120mm fan, and carries an 80+ Bronze rating. I guess it's a pretty standard setup.
The Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5—specifically the black ATX model (MCW-L5S3-KANN-01). Just a heads-up, this one doesn't include a power supply.
It’s an Intel Core i3 8100, LGA 1151 socket, 3.6GHz, with 6MB cache, integrated graphics, and it's Quad-core.
ASUS Prime B360M-A motherboard featuring an Intel B360 chipset, DDR4 support, Gigabit LAN, M.2 slot, and PCI-E 3.0. It comes with D-Sub, DVI-D, and DP outputs, plus USB 3.1, all in an mATX form factor for LGA 1151.

$1.00 Best Buy will put it together for you at no extra charge, plus you could always grab an SSD if you're feeling it.

Found this 120GB SSD over at Best Buy. It looks like a decent little drive if you just need something basic for a quick upgrade, I guess.

+ graphics card:

You can build a pretty decent rig at Best Buy, but everything except the GPU is okay... the prices and availability there are just a total disaster. Would you be open to picking up a graphics card at Nasdaq using cash or some other card if you have about 1500-$667?

That won't cut it for any of those demanding games you mentioned.

You really don't need a $10k laptop 😛 like, say,

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/laptop-gaming/

The only thing you might actually need is an external hard drive for your games on Steam. I'm not sure what kind of budget you're working with... personally, I guess this MX150 is about the weakest GPU I'd consider if you want to do any gaming at all.

I'd probably go with this one instead—better warranty, plus it seems faster and more reliable, I guess.

Just grab some used sticks; there's really no point in buying new DDR3 at this stage. I think I saw a few local sellers over in San Diego 😛

Any of these should work fine with what you're currently running.

Or maybe this one:

If you go with the Radeon RX 580, you’ll probably need a new power supply if you're still running that Office 600 w that came with your case. You might get away with the GeForce GTX 1060 without upgrading, but I guess I'd still recommend just getting a new unit anyway.

How about something like this:

MSI B350 Motherboard (AM4, 2xDDR4, PCI-Ex16, 2xPCI-Ex1, USB3.1, USB2.0, 4xSATA III, M.2, Raid)
2x Patriot Elite DDR4, 2666Mhz, 4GB HS
Fortron HD420 W ATX power supply, 85% health, active, bulk
Toshiba P300 1TB, 64MB, 7200rpm HDWD110UZSVA
Thermaltake Versa H17 case
AMD Ryzen 5 1400 processor

Total: $1000 - Downtown

Maybe find a used graphics card with some warranty left—maybe a GTX 1050 Ti for around $367 or a GTX 970 for about $433.
Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
If that whole package comes with the GTX 1050 Ti $933, then it’s actually a pretty decent deal... though, you probably won't be thrilled with the processor. You'll likely end up needing to hunt down a used i7 47xx for about $400, which pushes the total price closer to $1333.

Samsung SSD 120GB A400 Series 2.5" SATA3

Total: $728

+ graphics card:

Everything ~ $1.25

I guess if you have some DDR4 RAM and a SATA drive lying around, you could probably make use of them.

Maybe try this:

The graphics cards are basically the same, though I guess this one has a slightly better cooler.

So, I'm looking at the MSI B350 Gaming Plus motherboard, the s.AM4 version (7A34-015R).
It’s an AMD Ryzen 5 2600, clocked at 3.40GHz with a 16MB cache on the AM4 socket. I guess that's the basic breakdown.
It’s a Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SSD, SATA-based, with 550MB/s read and 520MB/s write speeds. It uses 3D-NAND TLC tech—standard stuff, I guess.
Fortron CMT110 case, black.
The Fortron 550W Hexa 85+ power supply, which follows the ATX 2.4 standard.
G.Skill Aegis DDR4 8GB (1x8GB) PC4-24000U 3000MHz CL16, F4-3000C16S-8GISB
The Gigabyte GTX 1070 graphics card. Ti Looks like an 8GB Gigabyte GTX 1070 with the Windforce dual fan setup. It’s got the 256-bit bus and a clock speed of 1721MHz—pretty standard specs for that model.
2x Arctic F12 Silent fan, 120mm, 800rpm, 62.9m³/h, ACFAN00027A
Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD, 3.5", 7200RPM, 64MB Cache, SATA3, WD10EZEX

Total: $2.75 I guess it's just AMD.

There are actually quite a few solid 1080p/75Hz IPS monitors out there in that $120 to $150 range, I guess. $500If you're hunting for 144Hz, you’ll probably end up with a lower-quality panel, but I guess the gameplay feels way smoother once you're pushing north of 100 FPS. Just don't even think about using a TV.

$0.70 - IBM

Going from one quad-core back to another quad-core... I guess there isn't much else you can really do there.
PC buying advice needed in Desktops ·
It’s alright, though I’d probably just grab this memory kit instead:

I guess dual-channel and slightly better chips would be worth it.
