Looking for a new CPU and GPU upgrade in Desktops ·
It looks like they don't even have the motherboard in stock anymore $171. While you're sitting there overthinking things... 😛

You didn't mention which shop you're using either... I checked Best Buy and I don't see that RAM available there. If the retailer changes, the prices—and maybe even some of the part combinations—will change too.

I’d definitely go with the R5 1600X plus a cooler for that $50 setup I mentioned earlier. Honestly, the 2600X is just way too pricey right now; the price jumped from $533 to $633. You could probably grab the 1600X combo for barely $467. If I were you, I’d take those $167 and put them toward an extra 8GB of RAM instead.

I guess the Ryzen 1600X would crush the i7 4770 in just about everything, though maybe the gap isn't quite as huge when you're actually gaming. That GTX 1070 is a pretty solid deal, too.

I don't think an i7 makes any sense for you. It's honestly way too weak for what they're asking.

Check out what you could actually get for nearly the same price as that i7: 😂

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666MHz, 8GB
ASRock B450M-HDV, AM4
AMD Ryzen 5 6C/12T 1600X (3.6/4.0GHz Boost,19MB,95W,AM4) box
SilentiumPC Spartan 3 PRO HE1024 CPU Cooler

Total: $836 - Best Buy

plus a GPU...

or maybe:

Though, if I were you, I'd probably look for a used graphics card—something lightly used with plenty of warranty left—to save a decent amount of cash.

The issue is that an RX 570 4GB at Best Buy is only $133 more, and since the 8GB versions are $33 cheaper than the RX 580 8GB there, the value proposition is pretty questionable.

This XFX RX 580 8GB over at ADM costs practically the same as the RX 570 at Best Buy, which is why I’d suggest going that route instead. I'd probably order this one first and then take it over to Best Buy to have them build the rig.

Man, that's a bummer. Amazon is pretty reliable too and their prices aren't bad... I'll probably just adjust my build list there.

EDIT:

7 $180 - Amazon

Damn, 😬 that's a bit steep, especially since RX 580 cards are pricey here in the States. But, you might still save some cash... if you pick up a GPU from ADM (CLICK) and bring it over to the shop to have them bundle it with the rest of the build, it should work out fine. That's where $100 the savings are.

Something like this. I guess there isn't much else to choose from if you're looking for an ultrawide under $3k.

Well, I'm already paying off my setup in installments, so maybe it's too good to be true? 😬

Honestly, this build from the link is a total rip-off. Best Buy offers free assembly, and setting up Windows is pretty straightforward, to be honest.

There isn't much of a real difference between the B350 and B450 boards. I guess you might find that B450 models in the same tier tend to have slightly better cooling, mostly because the second-gen Ryzen chips can be pretty aggressive with their boost clocks.

Maybe check this out if you're dead set on getting something newer with a bit more thermal headroom:

You can definitely do better; honestly, I'd suggest avoiding pre-built bundles about 99% of the time. 😉

Save $167 and just grab a standard 2TB drive.

Personally, I’d go with the 8700K paired with a cheaper cooler. That specific cooler is really designed for ITX builds anyway.

Maybe grab that Mushkin RAM.

A new SSD would be good for installing Windows and all your non-gaming apps:

https://www.newegg.com/adata-ssd-listing
AData SX8200 NVMe SSD 240GB - $173

It’s a bit faster than the 860 EVO (though I guess you might not even notice), plus there's a 5-year warranty... I'm thinking about moving my Steam library over to my current one and using this as a boot drive.

The IPS version of the Dell 32" QHD monitor finally arrived:

Dell Q3279vWFD8 - from $565
Patriot Burst 480GB SSD - $195

OP. I mean, some older Patriot SSD models were known to have reliability issues and would just die on you.

I guess you could call this an Intel CPU desktop Pentium G5400 (3.7GHz, 4MB, LGA1151) box. Maybe it's just basic, but it gets the job done.
Corsair Vengeance LPX 500W Bronze Power Supply P/N: SPC164
Apacer Panther Gold DDR4 2666MHz, 8GB
MSI H310M PRO-VDH Motherboard (LGA 1151, DDR4, USB 3.1, USB 2.0, SATA III, HDMI, DVI-D, VGA)
Kingston 240GB A400 SATA3 2.5" SSD (7mm thickness), rated at 80TB TBW.

All in all: $810 Maybe just a quick heads-up on the Center.
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 x - $0.40

Used PC builds: What are they worth? in Desktops ·
urbancyclist9 said:Here’s the setup:

Motherboard: ASRock P67 PRO
CPU: i5 3550
GPU: MSI GTX 560Ti, 1GB GDDR
HDD: 500GB WD SATA III
RAM: Corsair DDR3, 1600MHz 2x4GB, Vengeance, 9-9-9-24
PSU: Corsair 600W GS series, ATX
Case: Thermaltake Commander MS-II
Monitor: Dell U2312HM

The PC works, but it's pretty glitchy. I think maybe the motherboard battery is dying or something. Basically, out of ten boots, it freezes about three times before hitting the loading screen, and it fails to recognize one of my HDDs (it misses it 100% of the time when that happens).
Also, ever since I bought it, the GPU has been freezing occasionally—it throws driver errors after the image hangs for 10-30 seconds. After that, I can usually keep going. It doesn't matter which drivers I install; it's always the same story.

1. I was wondering how much I might get for the whole rig, and do you think it'd be better to sell the parts individually?

2. Roughly how much could I get for certain components, and would it make sense to save some cash for a new build I'm planning (maybe for a new power supply)?

My plan is to grab:

ASROCK Z270 Pro4
i5 7600K
Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 gaming, 6 GB GDDR5
480GB SSD
CORSAIR 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR4, vengeance
Samsung LU28E590, 28", TN, 3840x2160, 1 ms, 2x HDMI
Power supply? I'm not sure if mine is still okay or if I should just pick up a new Corsair 750w

Thanks! 🙂

Motherboard: $133
CPU: $133
GPU: $117
RAM: $100
PSU: $67

You can hang onto the rest. But seriously, don't go with the 7600K and Z270 combo; that's probably the worst choice possible given all the processors available right now. 😁

Maybe look at a Ryzen 2600 + B450 board, or an i5 8400 + B360/Z370.
