GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Andrew Garcia89 said:Hey, my graphics card just died after two years (it was an ATI 4800 HD, if that matters), so I need a replacement. What would you recommend for around $800 $333 to make sure it lasts me a while? Thanks! 🙂

What kind of CPU and power supply are you running? Also:

The GTX 750 pulls almost half the power, though it is slightly weaker.

He's willing to spend up to $633.
The current setup is:
Intel Core i3 2100 Sandy Bridge
4 GB RAM
Foxconn 2 ABF motherboard
I figured that should be enough info for you guys to know what to suggest.

The power supply is also something to consider...

Otherwise, you could go for an R9 280. There might be a bit of a bottleneck, but maybe an i5 could be picked up down the road.😉

Honestly, AMD offers more bang for your buck here... I think it's maybe 15-20% faster than the gtx 750 Ti.

The R7 250X offers about 30-40% more performance, though it is $20 pricier, so I guess it actually makes sense to go for it.

They’re cheaper, and I guess the performance is pretty much identical.

Spira Kepler cooler for 1156/775/FM1

Total: $342 $60

If you're still running a stock cooler, I'd grab this Spira instead and try to overclock the CPU a bit. You should probably be able to hit 3.2-3.3GHz just by bumping up the multiplier.

Both could potentially stay on board when they transition to the new platform 😉

So, we're looking at 4GB of RAM? I guess you could probably run Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 reasonably well.

For an upgrade, maybe grab an NVIDIA Kepler. You could try overclocking the CPU to something like 3.6GHz and pair it with an R7 250X, a GTX 750, or an R7 260X for the GPU.

Yeah, I guess that's a pretty solid price.

Maybe 300-$117

I guess maybe Rosberg's car just jerked left and then snapped back to the right. 😉

Anyway... hitting that corner from that position on the outside during braking? There’s zero chance. Releasing the brakes halfway through just to cook something on the outside... I guess that's just pure stubbornness.

I wonder what kind of mental diagnosis the crowd would slap on Lewis Hamilton if he had actually done what Rosberg did. 🤣

$884 AMD

Overclocking this to about 3.7-3.8GHz, maybe. I'll probably just jump to a completely new platform next year.

Hi.
Budget PC build for $220? in Desktops ·
The Celeron G1820 is a bit on the weaker side, while the i3 4150 definitely packs more punch than the AMD A8 5600K/6600K. Are you actually looking to buy something? If so, what's the end goal? I guess there’s just no point in us all obsessing over which 😛 is better 😬

It’s a pretty snappy dual Core processor with integrated graphics, so I guess it should handle all those light tasks without any real trouble, just like the author is looking for.

If you absolutely have to go with something new, then this:

If you don't have those $33 yet, I'd say just save your money. Anything cheaper is honestly much worse; you just end up getting way less for what you spend.

I wouldn't bother with that one; honestly, you're better off just taking what Robert Rodriguez2 has. 😉

Alright then, those are all solid components. I see a newer version of that kind of case over at Best Buy ~$300, you might want to grab one of those.

The processor feels a bit pricey (you might want to check $300) since I picked mine up brand new back in January for $367. Personally, I’d suggest just grabbing a new Corsair Carbide 300R for about 600 and change.
