Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
wiredseal7 said:What do I care about Russian troubles or this whole war, other than sharing the fate of the people "on this side" via my heating bill?☕

This guy is a joke. No, he didn't say it (which I wasn't claiming either), but his whole map is a mess. Wide Ukrainian arrows crossing the Oskil river? Liman without Russians? You have to agree that doesn't match what's actually happening on the ground.

Russia pulled a brutal blitz offensive that worked because it was fast—but they're finding their footing now and, logically, they've dug in at the river as a defensive line.
If it's hard for the Russians to move large troop numbers into Kherson, the same laws of physics apply to the Ukrainian troops at the Oskil river—which, let's be real, is wide and exposed.

A purely civilian role, not even a government position, and they attempt an assassination?
The Ukrainians have really leaned into terrorism—very Mossad-style.

A civilian role in an occupied city? Yeah, right. Is targeting an occupier's representative considered terrorism now?
Android upgrade? in Laptops ·
Even if it wasn't ten years old, Android 4 is ancient history at this point. I'm pretty sure there isn't an official update coming, so you might be able to find some custom ROMs, but that's going to take a bit of work.

Why bother? Who actually gives a damn about them?

They just kept hitting airbases, ammo dumps, and bridges, and now they’ve moved on to this assassination attempt. Typical.

Oh yeah, 😁 someone dropped a shell casing, messed up, whatever... they're such invisible losers.
Just say you got your ass kicked instead of pretending you didn't just sabotage yourself.

Isn't it a little embarrassing for Russia to admit their agent was basically loitering around for days, plotting, causing chaos, and finally taking out the target before slipping across the border into Estonia? 😁 So much for those "powerful" Russians.😁

So where exactly are the Russians going to hit Kyiv? They can bomb it, sure, but that’s about all they can do... honestly, they just talk a big game. And if Belarus actually gets involved in this war? That would be a total joke—it’d be like the US was at war and we decided to send our military over to help them.😁Okay, even worse, Belarus is even more incompetent than we are.

Since when do Russians actually need some grand excuse or justification to liquidate someone? They've always been killing people regardless of whether they're guilty or innocent, just because...

Donbas belongs to Ukraine, and Ukraine has every right to rain hell on an occupying army.

Looks like that fake democratic veneer they love to flaunt is cracking pretty fast, I guess.

As far as I can remember, nobody shed a single tear when Biljana Plavsić died—if anything, they were happy about it.

Plus, once the war wrapped up and the country was liberated, there were still around 190k Germans hanging around. Then, about 170k of them were shoved into internment camps just to force them to leave the country for good while the government seized all their property.

Exactly. I know this firsthand—everything was stripped from us simply because my family were Volksdeutsche. We never got a dime back. My grandmother even won a court ruling to have our property returned, but the government just said "NO!!!" It’s sick.

I mean, I never really thought of these major powers as "the big three evils"—at least not during that relatively peaceful stretch in this part of the world after communism collapsed. Now? I’d say that description fits Russia perfectly. But honestly, it feels like saying sharks are evil just because they're massive and powerful. Being big and strong is just how they exist.

Russia is honestly lagging way behind, and China is playing an entirely different game that doesn't really align with our interests anyway. Then you've got other major players like India and the Islamic world, who are even further off from our idea of a "good life."

I feel the same way. In my book, the USA is definitely more "good" than "evil." Honestly, without them, the values we hold dear here in America and across the West probably wouldn't even exist today. I'm doing my internship. If America hadn't existed—as a superpower, a society, or even just a concept—we’d be in a completely different world. Think about it: would we have even beaten the Nazis without American support? Or how did Europe manage to shake off those old-school hierarchical systems without the push from the US toward democratic values? We basically imported their entire blueprint for modern life: equality, the rule of law, freedom of speech... even the tech that changed everything for the average person, from refrigerators and cars to rock and roll, TVs, and now computers. Everything. What kind of nonsense is this? So what, did it just fly in from Russia, China, some random spot in Saudi Arabia or India, or maybe Iran? Who knows.

Maybe there’d be a tiny slice of it, but it would probably only be for the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie. It’d likely end up just like Russia...

Is this what people call "American idolatry"? I wouldn't go that far. It’s perfectly obvious to me that there are plenty of idiots and plenty of bad things happening over there. But what I said above? To me, that's just an undeniable fact of modern history.

It’s all just one big Greek tragicomedy happening at once. 😁 So today we're acting like America is this big protective brother looking out for us, when in reality, she's basically our European daughter, right? 🤔 If you didn't have Europe (and yeah, that includes Russia), there wouldn't even be an America.
Look, I get it—the USA isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. But honestly? It’s still the best thing that could have happened to the world.
Let’s be real for a second—most of us are living pretty damn good lives. We've got plenty of stuff, we can travel wherever we feel like, and we have the freedom to say whatever's on our minds.

Just an example of a typical day: you wake up, head to a job with decent conditions, and if you’ve got the skills or the right training, you don't end up wrecking your health in the process. Once you clock out, you actually have choices—you can go for a walk, ride your bike, grab a beer, or grab some food.
You could spend your night bingeing Netflix, catching a game, hitting the pub, or scrolling through Facebook and Instagram to comment on everything without a second thought. You could be on Tinder looking for a hookup, or just traveling the world. Instead, you're here.

Imagine if the US didn't exist and we were stuck dealing with some Russian or Chinese regime running the show instead.
Everything we use today wasn't actually invented by them. If they ever did come up with anything, it wouldn't be for the general public—it would just be some niche thing for the party elites.
So you’d rather go work a manual labor job since apparently everything else is pure evil... But hey, once you're off the clock, you won't have much of a choice. Most technology wouldn't even exist. Not to mention movies, shows, or games—if we look at our own society, how many modern series are actually Russian or Chinese? Zero? Yeah, exactly.
Games? They’re basically at zero.

If it weren't for the major players like Russia, China, Iran, and their crowd—who haven't contributed a single damn thing to the world besides tyranny, war, and crushing human rights—we wouldn't have made it past the 1900s.

The fact that the USA exists as it does is proof enough that tyrants won't be running the show.

Bryan Booth82 said:That’s just not an accurate way to look at it. They were paying out reparations until 1953, not to mention the payments made to Israel... which, let me remind you, continued until very recently.

Best,

It was just private lawsuits. Back in the day, you could actually get awarded damages that let you seize factories or machinery, but that kind of compensation doesn't exist anymore.
War reparations like they used to have aren't even an option in court today, so all that "why won't Mexico pay us" talk is total nonsense—there isn't a court out there that would ever rule in favor of that.

Germany never paid reparations for World War II, since the consensus back then was that war indemnities just fuel more resentment and future conflicts.
There’s zero chance someone is just going to conjure up war reparations out of thin air today.

Russ is absolutely reeling. They’ve got this massive fleet, yet they can't seem to get anything done. At this rate, they won't even be able to hold onto Crimea, and they'll be begging for negotiations just to keep what little they have left.

I mean, you know you've hit rock bottom when none of the "cool kids" will even hang out with you anymore, so you end up sucking up to the Donetsk People's Republic just to have someone to call a friend 🤦

They're finished. Totally washed up. They thought they could steamroll everything in a few days, fueled by local sympathizers, but they ended up achieving absolutely nothing. They've lost nearly 100k people and god knows how much equipment, all for zero gain. No one’s left to back them up anymore... eventually, they'll be stuck begging Mexico for help, though I bet Vučić will play them perfectly.

Sucking up to that bloated, distorted little dwarf? That's a new low.

Six months since this "unstoppable superpower" started their invasion and they're still stuck in the mud, even though some geniuses were promising they'd reach the Atlantic in three days.
Now it turns out that in a war without nukes, the British could probably roll into Moscow in the time it takes to drive there.

I bet the families of fallen soldiers just get a beat-up old Chevy Blazer instead.
And don't even get me started on them claiming they'll build their own military tech because there's no Western 😁 available—as if they could actually manufacture anything beyond basic tools, let alone a laptop or a smartphone.
