Trash PDF moderation issues — again in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I mean, come on, Hook, don't you get it? We’re all just a bunch of brainless, bottom-tier losers who wouldn't know how to press a couple of buttons if our lives depended on it.
Maybe the real issue is that anyone standing outside the sacred inner circle isn't even allowed to catch a glimpse of that glorious, untouchable moderator lounge.
I bet they're sitting in there right now, laughing their heads off at us.

I’d like to make one more small correction here and point out that it’s been at least a year since that first thread about moderating the garbage, and honestly, nothing has improved—if anything, things have actually gotten worse.
I genuinely don't understand what kind of ego trip you kids are on, clinging to these moderator roles if you have zero intention of actually doing anything. Is this some weird prestige thing, or do you guys seriously get discounts on DM products just for holding the title?
You all look truly pathetic.
On the local community boards, moderators change every single week, yet you lot cling to the trash like your very lives depend on being those little moderator figures over there.

I’ll just add my two cents: things have shifted massively since they brought on Tyndall, and then added Daniel Ward87 to "keep watch" right after.
It’s honestly unprecedented. The whole place is practically bursting at the seams with moderation.
Maybe you guys should add someone else to the oversight crew; I’m sure that would actually make a difference this time.
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
I’m looking for some solid recommendations for a GP, a dentist, and a gynecologist at the health clinic over on Griess Street—ideally, I’d love to find a group that all works the same shift.

I just moved into the neighborhood and need to transfer my medical records and doctors over there. If you can't share publicly, feel free to shoot me a DM. Thanks in advance.

Joshua Jones13 said:I guess I should weigh in on this, since we're apparently debating who makes a good moderator. I recently became a moderator at the FBI, and my life experience with cohabitation or thread creation wasn't exactly the criteria used. For one, I haven't started a single thread. And I don't live with a partner.
Sub-moderators are usually picked by the sub-forum moderators, who are the ones responsible for deciding who would make a decent colleague.

Setting aside the joke campaign to try and land Molly a spot in Moderation, I honestly have no idea what this assumption is even based on.
Maybe there's some truth to what Paul Green31 is saying—that Molly has a certain energy that draws people in—and I suppose she's more than capable of moderating without causing a scene.
But, I'm not really lobbying for anyone here. It just seems to me that we've gone down the wrong path with these supposed "requirements" for being a moderator.

Fine, I’ll wrap this up with one final thought.
The FBI isn't some niche sub-forum that requires deep empathy or complex understanding. Anyone can moderate it because anyone can judge whether a post belongs there or not. If you can't recognize Garbage when you see it, you shouldn't be making those calls.
I realize that sub-moderators are picked by the current moderators, but in this specific instance, the current mods aren't exactly pulling their weight. So, who are they actually going to pick? Someone to actually do the heavy lifting, or just another person who—much like them—will end up doing absolutely nothing?
Honestly, the admins should just make the call on any potential sub-mod.
That's enough from me on this topic. Carry on with your arguing or keep boiling over; I couldn't care less.

velvettrucker52 said:We’ve already established that you and gentlehound9 are essentially the ultimate, gold-standard trolls.
There is no point in repeating myself because, well—there just isn't. 🤷

The thing about troll culture is how specific it gets; you often run into users who develop this intense sense of tribalism, acting as if being a troll is part of their actual DNA, and they make sure to broadcast that identity everywhere they go. 😬

Look, the two of you aren't the first or the last people to fall for the urge to hijack discussions, claim ownership over specific threads or documents, and insist that your particular vision is the only valid one—demanding that the Moderators follow your lead. Unfortunately, those kinds of power trips rarely produce anything beneficial.
I have seen countless threads ruined by this kind of territorial behavior, and plenty of users have burned themselves out trying to "privatize" certain spaces.

In my opinion, it would be wise to stop with the accusations and calls for a public lynching and instead offer a constructive idea, if you actually have one. If not, just step back and let the Moderators and admins decide what changes, if any, should be implemented for the platform.

velvettrucker52 has no need for insults or that kind of language.

Oh, please. I have a very "hijacked" vision for this place: I see a forum that actually gets moderated!
Who's calling for a lynching? And who isn't offering constructive ideas? Take a look at my posts since you're dragging me into this argument with Donald Trump, acting like we've both been writing the exact same stuff.

I specifically said I wasn't asking for anyone to be kicked off the moderation team; I was asking for actual activity. I even suggested adding another Moderator to the team. I also said I wanted unnecessarily deleted threads to be restored, cleaned up, and potentially reopened. If that counts as "too much moderation" for some people, then my previous suggestion stands: just add another sub-moderator.
I even went as far as suggesting Jason Morgan for the role.
And you're telling me none of that counts as a constructive suggestion? Fine. Great.

Paul Green31 said:The moderators have gone head-to-head with the very soul of this subforum. Look, a small corner of the internet like this only works if it’s anchored by a core group of regulars, with the occasional passerby or wanderer drifting in.
Right now, you’ve got those loyal veterans on one side, and the mods on the other. It’s a standoff.
If the current mods stay put, nothing changes. This sub stays hollow, losing its core identity and becoming nothing more than a revolving door for random tourists.
Removing the mods isn't the answer, and dragging this thread back to the old Reddit days isn't it either—not while things are heading in this specific, messy direction.

If we actually want to bridge this gap and give this place some life again, we need fresh blood. We need someone new to shake things up.
That new person would have one primary job: moderation and cleaning up the mess, because let's face it, the current duo clearly can't keep up. Any new mod could handle the housekeeping part.

But there’s a second, much bigger requirement. This moderator needs to be a magnet. They need that natural charisma to pull in new people who will actually raise the bar. Because when you increase the volume, you often improve the quality. Or, as Stalin famously implied when he won using inferior but more numerous tanks: "Sometimes, quantity becomes quality."

For the Trash subforum, that is the perfect solution.

We need a moderator with that rare spark—someone who attracts absolute legends, someone who makes both kids and grown men feel like kids again, leaving everyone else watching with a smile and a sudden sense of nostalgia.

Then, the PDF will finally bloom. Keep the serious mods as they are, add one person like the one I'm describing, and together they’ll produce this perfect mix of "unserious-serious" content. That's how you grab attention and drive visitor counts higher than ever before.

And for any forum, the bottom line is always Visitors - Posts - Visitors...

But where on earth do you find someone like that? Looking at the usual suspects, I don't see anyone. And adding another "serious" person is just a waste of time. Take velvettrucker52, for example—she’s a fantastic moderator, but can you imagine her running the Jokes section? She’d probably empty the whole sub in fifteen days.

What we need is a moderator who is inherently chaotic. There is one user here who possesses every single quality I just mentioned; she is the golden ticket for Trash. She was practically born for this sub, and she’s even expressed interest in moderating. And she didn't just say it—she turned that interest into one of the most legendary, chaotic threads this forum has ever seen.

Mulica is the perfect fit.
She is so naturally, charmingly chaotic that it’s impossible to get this wrong.

And don't go thinking this post is just some continuation of her latest chaotic spree. I'm being deadly serious here.

You think a trash mod needs to be chaotic? Great. We have a massive spectrum of weirdos, trolls, internet pests, and similar characters at our disposal.
Stop talking nonsense. We need a mod who actually understands what constitutes trash, someone who enjoys starting new threads, keeps discussions moving, and is willing to moderate properly. I already suggested Africa Pepper for the job because they are the perfect choice.
But then again, you wouldn't know, since you haven't been around the trash section much.

and please, let's keep the sarcasm to a minimum, because it really doesn't fly in this space

Look, if you had just said, "We're keeping an eye on this and will handle it," then our sarcastic remarks wouldn't even be necessary.🙂

I’d also like to take a moment to thank the admins for completely ignoring this thread, even though they clearly know exactly what's going on here.
I realize the Trash subforum might not be a priority for you all, but for those of us who have been posting there for ages trying to keep it alive, it matters. I should also thank them for making sure every single part of this site is being moderated properly and with actual quality.
Keep up the good work. Cheers.

slywolf45 said:Well, clearly plenty of attempts were made.
It started out with standard moderation, then the insults started flying. Then came the warnings stating certain behavior wouldn't be tolerated. After that, they moved on to handing out bans more aggressively.
So, what’s left on the table?

The only option left is to just shut off commenting altogether. But in my opinion, if you do that, it isn't really the same thing anymore.
But hey, fine... the mods and admins are the ones in charge here.🤷

Why is everyone fixated on the Reddit threads when we’re actually complaining about the lack of moderation across this entire sub-forum? Yes, I agree, it's a shame those specific threads aren't there, but I'm even more disappointed that the whole section is left completely unmoderated and neglected.

What slywolf45 wrote regarding the attempts to moderate the Trash section—sure, that happened, but that was ages ago. For several months now, the entire sub-forum hasn't seen any real moderation at all, and that is the core issue here!

Kate Foster12 said:You know what, it doesn't matter. Just wipe the threads—delete the entire PDF too.

The quality content on Reddit died out long ago anyway, and it’s clear that those of us who actually put in the effort were just wasting our time.

It’s pathetic that you didn't take this as constructive criticism—that you, as moderators, actually have the power to shift the atmosphere on the PDF—and instead took it as a personal attack. How many members does Reddit even have left? Five?

Kowa, you’re still over here bragging about how you can't even moderate eight out of twelve posts... sometimes it's better to just stay quiet.

That was the entire point of all this, but clearly, it went right over your heads. I really did try...

I'm done with the trash; let it rot in the weeds.
Moderating a Reddit subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
First off, I’m not being a hypocrite here. That whole thing about the moderator was just me messing around, okay? I’m not asking anyone to step down from the mod team, but I am demanding that you actually start moderating the Reddit sections properly, or just hire someone else to help out. Honestly, I’d suggest Africa Pepper for the job, since she spends half her life hanging out in the trash anyway.

Regarding the complaints that we should have posted about the lack of moderation over on the trash boards instead of here—well, why would we launch an all-out attack right away? It felt stupid to start whining and firing shots immediately, so I waited a few months. But now, things have gone way too far, and I’ve finally decided to bring this to the PŽK. One reason I sat on this for so long is because I actually care about both of those users, and I didn't want to cause unnecessary friction.

It wasn't my intention to demand an iron fist for every single tiny violation, but there really should have been at least a warning here and there, rather than just letting things spiral out of control.

Simple, you’re bragging about starting two threads. Oh, excuse me, you’re BRAGGING about two threads on your own subforum that you didn't even actually initiate. Mods are supposed to lead and keep the subforum active, but clearly, that’s not happening.
As for the fact that analoglynx23 supports you but "can't be bothered" to write anything—that is the perfect summary of how he treats his own subforum. He just can't be bothered.

velvettrucker52 said:I actually enjoy Reddit and its various threads. 😍
I feel bad about the state of this Reddit subforum because it really used to be a great space; I truly hope they clean up the clutter and bring it back to its former glory.

There is a specific reporting function for a reason.
Users shouldn't try to act as moderators, regardless of how qualified they think they are for the role.
Personally, I find posts that don't belong here just as irritating as the posts that call them out.

If you want to complain about the moderation team, there's a formal channel for that. You shouldn't do it in random threads, as that ruins the quality of those discussions just as much as the posts you're complaining about.
The only thing I don't understand is why these public call-outs aren't being penalized themselves. 🤷

It’s probably because they weren't actual call-outs, more like requests to take action, and maybe because those people aren't even the ones moderating anyway.

Doesn't matter. Look, is it really impossible to find mods on this entire site who would actually deal with this thread? Why does the Politics sub have five moderators (don't get me wrong, I have nothing against that specific PDF), while Reddit, which is its own special case, can't manage to have at least three people looking after it?

Oh right, I totally forgot about her. Yeah, she's part of the problem too.

briskmoose90 said:Every subreddit has its own flagship thread where everyone ends up congregating. Deleting that thread isn't going to trigger a sudden wave of new posts, nor will it breathe life back into old ones.
The shutdown of that one specific thread proved it.

I don't agree with this move.

Personally, I haven't posted anything in that thread for ages. I don't have the time to scroll through Reddit that much, and I really don't want to post anything on Reddit. I think the thread was kept alive by a handful of people who actually care about quality control, not by some random trolls posting whatever comes to mind.

It was basically just me and Kate Foster12 keeping it afloat. We were essentially moderating without any actual tools, manually stepping in to tell people stuff didn't belong there or reminding them to use quotes properly since the actual mods weren't doing their jobs.
The admins—well, until we called them out—had basically just checked out from the entire subforum. They let it turn into a total wasteland instead of actually enforcing the rules.

briskmoose90 said:Is it possible they just nuked the thread to clean things up and plan on bringing it back?
Has this happened before?

Getting rid of it entirely is just pointless. 😢

No, they nuked it for good. If they just wanted to tidy things up, they would have locked it instead.
Look: her response when I asked her about it
Moderating a Reddit subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’ve gone through all the subreddit rules, and I’m honestly not sure if this falls within them, so I’d really appreciate some clarity if possible.

The core issue is that the Reddit subforum hasn't been properly moderated for quite a while now. It feels like the moderators have just checked out and aren't interested in keeping things in check anymore.
A few of us users have been asking the mods to step up and handle moderation properly, but they either don't want to or simply can't find the time.

For instance: the main Reddit thread (and the rest of the subforum) has basically become an unmoderated wasteland lately. No content is being categorized correctly, and no warnings are being issued for off-topic posts. When we actually tried to point out that they weren't sanctioning the right stuff, they just locked the whole thread and deleted it—which is why I can't even provide a direct link.
They did the exact same thing to the "best of" thread.

I also can't link you to a specific post that sat in the Fashion corner for days despite being totally irrelevant. It was only removed just now, after we complained about the lack of oversight and used that post as an example. If we hadn't flagged it, who knows how long it would have stayed there.

I realize both threads have attracted a crowd of users who don't quite grasp what belongs in this sub, leading them to post things that don't fit, but I don't think just giving up and wiping everything out is the solution.

Just to be clear on one thing—I have nothing against those two users; I think they're great people. But ever since she had her baby, she's been around much less, and he's barely here since he started his new job.

I've been an active part of this sub for a very long time, and it genuinely breaks my heart to see what it's turned into.
I'm not necessarily proposing a massive overhaul—maybe just bringing on an additional moderator to help out, especially since the current ones seem to have lost interest or run out of time.
