Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Christian Taylor8 said:Don't be like that. My wedding wasn't some typical Midwestern affair: we didn't do the whole "buying the bride" routine or any of that nonsense. Instead, all our guests met up in the courtyard of a local bistro around 4:00 PM (it didn't take the entire day), where we had catering, and we showed up last. Our parents didn't even have guests over at their houses. We didn't invite people based solely on family ties either, nor did we stick strictly to the "extended family only" rule. It was a 50/50 split between family and friends.
My bachelor party involved getting wild out in nature, and my bachelorette was at a spa.
There were no gifts handed out during a formal dance with the bride, just people coming up to congratulate us—they’d leave envelopes with one bridesmaid, grab a thank-you note from another, and snap photos with both of us. That whole part was done in about 30 minutes.
As for music, we played domestic and international rock—stuff like Hladno Pivo, Tina Turner, etc.—plus a light show and an entrance dance involving about 20 of our close friends.
We didn't do the traditional heavy meat menu.
We actually used smiley face pins instead of rosemary sprigs.
We didn't decorate the cars, not even ours.
We only sat down with our parents exactly three times throughout the entire year to update them on the plans and explain how the wedding would look; we didn't let them interfere. Luckily, there weren't any major complaints.
The result? Nothing but positive feedback, and people were even begging for the wedding video five months later. Our parents had a blast, they were well-rested, and totally stress-free.
Don't go bashing the Midwest right away; you can make anything happen if you just show some backbone.

No, wait, you might have misunderstood me, or maybe I phrased things poorly. What you described sounds perfect, and honestly, that's what I'd want too. But I know my parents will fight it because they are incredibly traditional. Even worse, my partner is convinced that weddings are for the parents, not the couple, and that everything should happen exactly the way the parents want it. 😢

Angela Ross3 said:Just tell them Laganini, it's your wedding and they've already had their turn at the altar 😉 I remember going head-to-head with my own folks about stuff like this, but I eventually stood my ground 😁. So, which specific traditions are giving you such a headache?

Man, there’s a lot. First off, I actually want a small wedding, but let’s be real—that’s out of the question. The whole "buying a bride" thing is exhausting, then there's the baby basket at the entrance, the endless cycle of gifting, the typical wedding music, the garter toss... honestly, I’d do everything differently if I could. But I won't be allowed to change a thing. In this tiny corner of the Midwest, nothing ever changes 😢

Tell me exactly why a wedding in the Midwest has to be so steeped in tradition? I’m just not feeling it. 🙂
Every single relative—especially the parents—would basically disown us if we didn't follow all those ridiculous customs.
Honestly, part of me just wants to pack up and run away somewhere with nothing but our best man and maid of honor. 😢
I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the psychology section, so feel free to move it if I've missed the mark.

So, I'm looking for some insight. I've done a little reading, and apparently, this isn't exactly common.
My boyfriend sleepwalks. Up until now, it’s been minor stuff—talking or singing in his sleep, shouting, wandering around the room (he’ll wake up on the floor on the far side of the room, for instance), twitching, or even turning on the TV or the computer... but last night actually terrified me. His bedroom is upstairs, and he got up, walked all the way down the spiral staircase, went straight to the phone, dialed my cell number, let it ring twice, hung up, climbed back upstairs, and crawled back into bed. About a minute later, I called him, which woke him up, and he had absolutely no clue anything had happened. This happened once before, but we came up with some other explanation and brushed it off. Now? There’s no explanation other than the fact that he trekked halfway across the house while unconscious just to call me.

Ever since we started dating—over a year now—he complains every single day about how exhausted he is and how much he needs sleep. It never made sense to me because he sleeps more than I do. Now, everything clicks, and honestly, I have no idea how to handle this. He thinks the whole thing is hilarious, but I don't. Those stairs are a nightmare, and I'm genuinely scared he's going to break his neck one night. I don't know if I should force him to see a doctor, but this chronic fatigue and lack of real rest is getting serious.

Sorry for the long-winded rant. My main questions are: Can a doctor actually help with this? Is there any effective treatment for sleepwalking at all?
Does anyone know more about this?
I honestly think I’d love to swap genders for just one week, purely out of curiosity to see how the mechanics actually work. Naturally, the very first thing on my checklist would be figuring out what sex feels like from their perspective. 😁
Three months seems like a stretch, though—I suspect I’d start losing my mind by then. But during my period? Every single month, I find myself wishing I was just born a man for the rest of my life. 🤣
And don't even get me started on the fact that, eventually, I might actually have to give birth. It’s enough to make me want to pass out.

Ethan Thomas10 said:Look, if the mods want to shut this thread down, fine by me. But I’ve noticed something, and I’m pretty sure most of you feel the same way.

Take couples, for instance. They’re all "in love" or whatever. And they absolutely have to flood Meta with a million photos of them together, hugging and all that. What really gets under my skin is when their profile picture is always some shot of them kissing. Seriously, how does that even happen? Are they just frozen mid-kiss for one photo? Is Mom or Dad standing there snapping pictures of them making out? I don't get it...

And then, you’re scrolling through Meta late at night and you see people posting stuff on the Wall like "goodnight," "sleep tight," "I love you," or "thinking of you"...

Since you can say all those romantic things in a private chat, via text, or just a direct message... my question is:

WHY IN THE WORLD DO PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO BRAG AND SHOW OFF THEIR RELATIONSHIPS SO CONSTANTLY?

First off, all that bitterness sounds a little bit like jealousy to me. 😉
Second, not every couple acts like that.
My partner and I have one photo together, and we never post mushy stuff on Meta or anywhere else where everyone can read it.

Jeffrey Doyle80 said:Sorry guys, can someone please just answer me! I ride BMX and I slammed my knee yesterday. There was this huge bump on it yesterday, it went down a bit today so it's okay, but what actually is it? Help me out.😢

🤣
It's inflammation. Use some ice packs.
And seriously, why are the mods policing this thread? What a joke. 😂

Since we’re already going down this rabbit hole... I’ve got something similar going on on my upper shin. My doctor told me they suspect a tumor and that I need to go in for more testing.
For those of you still hanging around here, what did your doctors end up finding?

If you took this over to Lonely Hearts, I’d bet my bottom dollar half the users there would jump at the chance. 😁

redmarlin3 said:Give me a break,😁 you won't believe this, but I bought a brand new computer just the other day—get this, BRAND NEW--🙏 and since then, at least ten times a day, pages just refuse to load halfway through.😕

And mind you, I’m strictly using Firefox. I still have my settings set to 20 posts per page, and no, I am NOT seeing them.🙂

It works fine for me. Ever since I changed my settings a few weeks back, I haven't had a single issue.🤷

redmarlin3 said:So, I was totally right when I kept telling them it wasn't a browser issue. 😁

Honestly, my only advice is to just set it to 20 posts per page. That's about all you can do at this point. 😢

This actually works. Thanks, redmarlin3. 🙏

I’ve been dealing with this exact same headache for about a year now. I’m a Mozilla user. Honestly, it drives me up the wall because sometimes even a quick refresh doesn't fix it. I end up having to hunt through all the old posts just to find the recent ones, so I have to hit reply and then manually scroll all the way down to the bottom to actually see what’s happening.

It’s not just about mothers. Honestly, half the girls I grew up with used to tell me my dad was a total stud. -.-

Can I follow you too? Honestly, I have way too much time on my hands lately, and since I haven't really followed anyone yet, I figured I'd offer up my services to someone as popular as you 😁
btw, do I need a photo or a camera? I’m really hoping the answer is no, because I don't own anything like that. I can always just sketch everything out in a notebook if that works 😍

No, we have to reconcile with that because we were (un)lucky enough to be handed yet another Xić right when we were coming into our own😢

Ugh, I finally got hit this morning, and now I’m just barely able to sit upright. Of course, because life is perfect, we didn't have any Advil at home, and honestly, I can't function without it. Thankfully, my grandpa brought over some 500mg Ibuprofen he gets from his doctor for who-knows-what, and within about half an hour—relief.
They’re amazing. From now on, these are my go-to. I've spent the entire day just rotting in bed with a heating pad and two pillows piled on my stomach. When I think about how many more of these cycles I have left before menopause hits, I actually feel sick.😢
