My package showed up and they left a yellow slip, but I’m gonna be out of town for a few days. Is there any way to extend the hold on that thing?

Michael Davis13 said:Look, I don't really buy into this whole "motivation" thing. I'm all about discipline instead. People always say they want to achieve something big, but then they claim they just lack the motivation to get started. So, they go on these massive binges watching YouTube videos or reading endless articles just to get themselves pumped up... but honestly? That spark usually dies out before you even finish your coffee.

When you actually have discipline, you just set a goal and you crush it. It doesn't matter if you're feeling inspired or if you're having a total meltdown... you just do the work. And the best part? After a while, those tough tasks actually start feeling easier...

For me, it’s a mix of both depending on the situation. But honestly, I find it wild when people claim they have zero motivation AND zero discipline for things they know they need to do. It's like they're just drifting through life with zero control over their own actions.

Jerry Ramos90 said:Yeah, true. It’s probably just a desperate need to control how everyone else thinks.
And then when things don't go according to script, or when people aren't falling all over them for being so "nice," they just lose it because their little manipulation tactic failed.

🤣 🙏

We seriously need to start selling t-shirts that say "Fuck being polite." I bet we'd make a killing. 🤣 It's been a minute since I've read such a solid conspiracy theory. 😁

Every time I jump into this thread, I start losing my mind 😍

I’m sticking to my guns on this one: you can't really be "overly" polite. You either have manners or you don't.

To me, being rude is just spreading bad vibes everywhere you go. It’s exhausting.

Nah. There’s a massive difference between suppressing how you feel and just taking it out on everyone in sight because you're having a moment. People can tell when I'm feeling down, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be a jerk to them.

Sean Cruz said:So, what? You're always polite and smiling, and never once sad or angry?

Honestly, I rarely get sad or angry—maybe a couple times a month tops. And even then, I try my best not to take it out on people who didn't do anything wrong. I save my attitude for the people actually causing the drama, whenever I can help it. Besides, feeling crappy doesn't stop me from being polite, unless it's to the exact person I'm annoyed with.

Reading through these threads, it feels like you guys think it's abnormal if you don't have something making you miserable every single day. 😢

Honestly, people like that just drain the life out of me. 😱

Stop acting.
Just be the person you are when you're alone behind closed doors.

And I am exactly who I am behind closed doors, so I have no clue where you're getting the idea that I'm different.

I don't know what kind of neighborhoods you guys are hanging out in, but I’m surrounded by nothing but friendly people.

Man, I’m gonna learn a whole lot from this forum 😬 basically means I'm not actually being nice, I'm just being two-faced because I can't handle a little criticism. Maybe if I just start acting like a total Karen, my popularity will skyrocket by like 50,000% based on how hot this thread is 🤣

I’m trying to figure out which of these behaviors you guys actually consider "kindness," because it's pretty clear we aren't on the same page here. 😬

kindness - being a warm, friendly person who's thoughtful, humane, and empathetic

courtesy - polite behavior that shows respect for other people

polite - having or showing good manners or respect for other people

kind - having or showing a gentle nature and a desire to help others : wanting and liking to do good things and to bring happiness to others; used to say that something does not cause harm, is not harsh or unpleasant

Honestly, this whole topic reminds me of when I first started my job; one of my coworkers actually thought I was making fun of her just because I'm always smiling. 🤣 Turns out, she eventually realized that's just my default setting.

The author didn't even define what "excessive politeness" actually means. You're totally misreading me—I said being aggressive isn't the same thing as being polite, not the other way around.

Signed, sealed, delivered. I love being polite and I love it when others are too. I steer clear of people who are constantly pissed off. If someone gets on my nerves, I’m not gonna be sweet to them—I’ll just ghost them and move on.
Sean Cruz said:A new coworker told my friend—whom she had only known for a few days—that she loved her, and then asked if my friend felt the same way. 😬 From the very start, this woman was pushing this intense, over-the-top friendliness and politeness that just felt wrong, and it really rubbed my friend the wrong way.

The question is: does my friend have a "problem" for being repulsed by behavior and statements that clearly just trigger antipathy, or is it the coworker who is out of line for asking those kinds of questions to someone she barely knows?

As it turned out, after some time passed, there was something else entirely behind that behavior—certainly not "love."
so when you think about it... how can people who are excessively kind be so nice to someone they don't even know?
I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't really matter. Most likely, these overly polite people only care about themselves and making a good impression. That entire display of kindness is basically just a mask for indifference and superficiality. 🤔

You're right about that too; people who treat everyone with that same level of performative warmth are usually shallow, and sometimes there's an ulterior motive hidden behind all that politeness. People tend to open up to anyone using that approach, and the other party can easily take advantage of that...

Why are you conflating forced intimacy with being polite? Telling someone you love them isn't being nice; it's being aggressive.

Can someone give us a definition so we know if we're even talking about the same thing?
