The bell is legendary. If I actually had the drive to install one, I would, but since I don't, I won't. I spend most of my time off the pavement, and all that gear would just be useless clutter

Twice a week. Don't bother with daily rides. It’s not about whether you can handle 31 miles hours on end; it’s about the sheer monotony. You'll lose your mind staring at the same scenery over and over, and when you're on a bike, you're always looking at the road. Doing it twice a week fits into a schedule, too—it's good exercise. If you actually enjoy it, you can bump it up to three times once the weather warms up. Just remember, you're looking at a minimum of four or five hours of riding.

It’s not about growing up. It’s just those stupid scenes that make me feel bad when I should be laughing.
The classics (those movies listed above) are always worth a rewatch, provided you don't force it—you can't just hammer them home seventeen times in three days.

Dangerous. You've got to account for rollover risks and rear-end collisions. Honestly, all that could happen while the kid is just sitting in a car seat. Still, for long road trips, having a trailer to toss gear into would be nice.

Maybe twenty years ago, or even longer, there was a case in the US involving a minor who committed murder. She wasn't acting alone—she was manipulated, intoxicated, and caught up in a mess of bad influences. Once she was caught, despite the clear presence of an accomplice, she was sentenced as if she were an adult. She was executed via the electric chair 🤔 just before reaching adulthood, if I recall correctly.
That specific case triggered the state to abolish the death penalty.
We should be looking at these current measures the same way.

Obviously, cutting these measures doesn't magically erase violence, but the reality is that in the US, we end up locking up people who pose no threat while letting the truly dangerous ones walk free.

Gaming isn't going to ruin your soul. But you need balance. It’s not just about mental health—like that weird story about the guy who was too scared to walk outside because he couldn't see a waypoint on his HUD—it's also about physical health. Sitting in a chair for ten hours straight kills your eyes, back, and neck. Meditation helps, though. I consider myself a believer, I go to church, but I've played countless games (check out the avatar) and I haven't become a worse person, nor have I suddenly become a saint. Just carve out some time for your spiritual side. You'll always find thirty minutes or an hour to shoot things on the computer.

I've already decided to take a different route. There's a thread dedicated to "Contract for a ride" where everything gets coordinated. Just a heads-up, though: you'll be dealing with millions of people and an endless stream of cars out there.

Well... the specs say it’s a spring/elastomer combo. Not surprising it went soft in the heat. It bottoms out pretty easily too (70mm travel). It's firm enough, just a bit heavy at about five pounds... might be worth swapping in new springs and a stiffer elastomer if you plan on keeping it for a while...

From what I can tell: same deal. Feels as soft as a Manitou Relic (maybe I'm just too heavy for it). As long as there aren't any leaks, it's fine. Now I'm more worried about the tires. I pumped them up to max pressure a few days ago when it wasn't even that hot... (they've already blown out on me twice 😬 just sitting in the sun)

Then it would feel like a brick during the winter months!
Anyway, I've been eyeing a Marzocac Bomber for a while—an older model, obviously, but brand new condition. By the time I make up my mind, someone else will probably have snatched it up.

My fork felt weird today—I'd even say panic-level soft. I don't know when it ever had this much travel or felt this mushy. Like some sort of tedious requiem. Maybe the heat is getting to it. 🤷

Someone mentioned once that a solid, properly executed weld can actually be stronger than the base metal itself. Is there still a place like Lincoln Electric out there where you can get an ultrasonic test or something done?

My bike has a lifetime warranty on the frame (a TREK), and it's aluminum! Or maybe it's some specific alloy, who knows.
If a weld is done right, it’ll always be stronger than the material it's attached to. But you actually have to know what you're doing to pull that off.

I’m behind the wheel, and if this thing falls apart 🤷! I’d give him 🙂 if it actually breaks down, but maybe he's too scared of that to let it fail completely—or at least not all at once.
