Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
restlessbadger2 said:Does anyone happen to know how one goes about seeing a geneticist once they've reached adulthood? I guess I'm just wondering about the process—maybe there's a specific way to navigate this through the medical system here in the States. So, my partner is insisting that there’s no such thing as a geneticist "for adults"—claiming they only operate within pediatrics and that I can't exactly be referred to one of them. I guess she thinks they just don't exist once you've grown up? Has anyone actually dealt with this before? 🙂

The search engine is pulling up the Institute for Genetics and Metabolic Diseases over at Johns Hopkins Hospital—specifically within the pediatrics department. 🤷

Also, I think I might need... Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a private immunologist or rheumatologist? I’m looking for someone reliable—ideally a specialist in private practice. I feel like navigating the mainstream options can be such a headache sometimes, so if you know a pro who actually listens and doesn't just rush through the appointment, please let me know. Any leads would be appreciated....I'm thinking about heading over to see Dr. Bosnic, but then I start reading through all these terrible reviews from the last few years...

It really depends on what kind of genetic testing you’re actually looking for—it's not one-size-fits-all. I guess a lot of those panel tests can be handled through other clinics anyway.
As for Dr. Bosnic—he’s retired now. I'm honestly not sure if he's still seeing patients at all, or if he even has a private practice anymore.

I get it. Hang in there.

You still haven't really given me a concrete explanation...

What exactly is standing in your way from actually getting to work?

Ronald Johnson11 said:Honestly, this whole self-isolation thing is killing me. I’ve sat through three different series while stuck at home and haven't even caught COVID once. They just announced on the CDC press briefing that they’re bumping the isolation period to 14 days for this new strain.

So, why do you keep showing up on their list?

Maybe it was originally pitched as a movie—though who knows, I guess they just changed their minds halfway through. Honestly, movies and big-budget blockbusters are kind of a mess lately... they just don't hit the same. Right now, TV series are killing it while movies are basically just flopping.

Yeah, IMDb actually lists it as a TV series.

I just can't manage to get up and clear my head; I spend days just trying to scrape together enough strength to exist. 😢 Even if I wake up in the morning feeling somewhat functional for a tiny window of time, by later in the day, I’m basically a log. I mean, obviously, I’m not expecting to run a marathon right after being sick, but I just want to feel... I don't know, relatively normal again. My daughter and I both caught COVID-19 at the same time, though she's actually having a harder time right now—she just sleeps, probably fifteen hours a day. 😢 I can't even find the energy to stay on top of things regularly either.

It feels like you've been hit by a truck... 😢

Have any of you reached out to a post-COVID clinic yet?

Kimberly Green27 said:I've heard from quite a few people who actually fought through COVID-19—positive tests, full-blown symptoms—only to end up with negative antibody results.
I suppose I don't really know how to make sense of that.

The logical explanation—if there is one, I guess—is that they just had low antibody levels to begin with, and those levels dropped off pretty quickly.

I haven't had any real issues, honestly. I basically sprinted right through WHO—it was over before I knew it. The only thing that actually stuck was losing my sense of taste and smell for a bit.

Doubts about the quality of work at my dentist's office in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
I recently went in for a professional cleaning and some scaling myself—nothing too crazy. They didn't mention anything about my teeth feeling numb afterward, though I did spit up a little blood, but I suppose that’s just part of the process. My dentist handled everything.

That’s exactly why I told everyone in my circle not to list me.

That’s actually why I decided against traveling to the States—instead, I just took five days of PTO and stayed put at home for a couple of weeks. It was honestly nice being home, and the best part—I guess you could say—was that I didn't end up passing anything on to my husband or my kid... plus, I wasn't completely cut off from them either.

cosmicwalker17 said:Can anyone give me some solid info regarding the dermatology clinics? (They’ve moved from their old spot over on Salad to the Rib location now). Do they actually have afternoon hours? Even if it's just for urgent cases with a referral?
Thanks so much for any help

They are open in the afternoons—but there isn't such a thing as "urgent care" dermatology there. It's all by appointment only, I guess.

I mean, if people can hang out in a crowded hospital during a pandemic, surely we can manage a few drinks without breaking the world. ☕

Look, we’re basically running the best shows in the hospitals—those folks in the local clinics aren't even half as intense as we are.

If you're thinking about enrolling in a second college program without having taken the SATs, then yeah, you'll probably have to.
As for the medication—it's best to just talk it over with your doctor, though I guess most people seem to lean toward alprazolam over bromazepam.

cosmiclynx79 said:Design was my first choice, but the best programs are all based in New York, much like how I couldn't do veterinary medicine because I didn't want to move to Boston. Eventually, I gravitated toward nursing after watching nurses work in local hospitals. I didn't even attempt pre-med due to my grades and a total lack of foundation in the sciences. Back then, I had no idea what the reality of nursing actually entailed. Now I know better, and I know that with my diagnosis, this career is off the table. So, what's left? I'm not exactly a genius...

What does the fact that design is in Washington, D.C. actually have to do with anything? Maybe it's a financial hurdle, I suppose. But honestly, at first glance, design sounds like a much better fit for you than nursing. I imagine you'd deal with less frustration and might actually find your footing in that field.
That said, those vocational medical programs usually take five years, and those students tend to have a bit of an edge over someone coming straight out of high school, especially when it comes to the hands-on stuff.

Bivacyn in Health ·
William Howard5 said:I'm bringing this thread back to life because I was wondering if anyone knows where I can still pick up some Bivacyn, ideally in powder form.

I'm not entirely sure about Bivacyn, though I suppose you could look into Tyrosur powder instead. You can pick it up at any local pharmacy without a prescription, and in our experience, it has worked out fine enough.

Maybe you'll find some fulfillment in helping people...

But if you want to be of any use to anyone else, you have to get your own house in order first, and frankly, can you even manage that?

And what about sisterhood?
