I was looking through some upcoming player ratings earlier today, and it got me thinking about how much the "ceiling" in sports simulations has shifted over the last decade. It feels like every year, we see another athlete hit that absolute theoretical maximum in a specific category. It’s not just a rare occurrence anymore; it’s becoming a standard benchmark for the "elite" tier.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing players get their flowers. When a guy performs at a historic level, you want the game to reflect that. If someone is genuinely a blur on the field, it feels wrong to give them a mediocre speed rating. But lately, I’ve been feeling this weird sense of "rating inflation" that makes the progression feel a bit hollow. When you have players hitting the absolute mathematical limit of the game’s engine—like a 99 in a major physical category—it starts to feel less like a representation of skill and more like a checkbox for the developers.

My biggest gripe is how this affects the actual gameplay loop. In older iterations of these sims, seeing a player with a massive statistical advantage felt like a genuine tactical advantage. You knew you had a "cheat code" in your lineup, and you had to play differently to exploit that specific gap. But now, with the ceiling being so much higher and more frequently reached, that sense of awe is dying out. If everyone in the top tier of the league is essentially hitting the same "maxed out" numbers, where is the differentiation? The gap between the "god tier" and the "great tier" feels like it's shrinking because the scale itself has been stretched so thin.

I also find myself wondering about the balance between realism and "arcade-ification." These games always struggle with that tension. On one hand, you want a simulation that respects the nuances of physics and human limitation. On the other hand, there’s a massive market for players who just want to feel powerful and see those flashy, high-speed animations. When the devs lean too hard into the "superhuman" side to satisfy the arcade crowd, the "sim" part of the simulation starts to crumble. You end up with players who look like they’re running on jet fuel, which looks cool in a highlight reel, but it makes the tactical, methodical side of the game feel secondary.

I remember playing back in the day when a high speed rating felt like a legitimate anomaly. You’d spend the whole season eyeing that one player, treating them like a specialized weapon. Now, it feels like the "max rating" is just a marketing tool used to hype up a new roster update. It feels a bit more like a video game achievement than a reflection of actual athletic prowess.

Is it just me, or is the "99" rating losing its prestige? I feel like we need more granularity in how these stats are handled. If 99 is the cap, then the difference between a 98 and a 99 shouldn't be this massive, yet in the gameplay, it often feels like the jump from "elite" to "broken" is too steep. I'd much rather see a more fluid scale where "perfect" isn't just a single number you can hit, but a sliding scale that actually requires a player to be a generational outlier to reach.

Does anyone else feel like the "perfection" in these ratings is actually making the games less immersive? Or am I just being a nostalgic old-timer who misses when stats actually meant something different?
It used to say SyncMaster.
Man, I’m running into the exact same headache. It used to show up as a Generic non-pnp monitor, so I figured I’d just wipe the drivers and start fresh. Now? It’s telling me it’s just some VGA display device. View on imgur

My setup is an ASUS G41M4 board paired with an AMD Radeon equivalent. Monitor is a Dell SyncMaster 940 nw. I already nuked the old drivers and tried installing the new ones, but nothing's working. Ran a scan with Norton too—clean as a whistle. No viruses.

I'm rocking a Samsung SyncMaster 940nw. I've been digging through my BIOS, but I'm not seeing any Plug and Play options anywhere. Everything was running smooth until now, but out of nowhere, the system just isn't recognizing what kind of monitor is hooked up.

So, I’m running into a bit of a headache while setting up Windows 7. Every time I try to get things running using the driver CD that came with my GeForce GT 740, the system just labels my screen as a Generic non-pnp monitor. I even tried hunting down the drivers online to see if that would fix it, but nope—same exact issue. Anyone know how to actually sort this out?
Harold Evans4 said:I don't watch much TV, but I haven't seen anything anywhere about rerouting train traffic directly into the camp. That's a whole different ballgame (even if the camp itself is basically right in the middle of the city). I figured they’d drop them at the main station and then shuttle them to the camp by bus. My bad if you're actually right on this one.

It’s not buses to the camp—they’re going straight from the border via train to the camp. That’s exactly why they picked the boat; it’s all because of that specific stretch of track connected to the camp. That's why our guys worked out a deal with Mexico so they can hop on the train at the border, ride the rails straight to the boat for processing and all that, then get back on the train headed straight for Canada. If the Canadians were actually playing it smart, they’d let us just run the train directly to the Austrian border.
It doesn't matter what number they throw at us; the public is just going to end up footing the bill anyway once they hike up the sales tax and everything else on our monthly statements.
wanderingbison9 said:I’ve been scrolling through these threads, and honestly, I can't believe some of the nonsense being debated here. People are talking about a camp for either 5,000 or 10,000 people, and then worrying about traffic jams in San Bernardino, all while suggesting there will be a direct train from Shida straight into the center of the site 🤷... As far as I'm aware, I haven't heard anyone mention a capacity of 10,000 for the San Bernardino camp; the number 5,000 seems to be the one everyone keeps bringing up. But even if it really is 10,000, so what? It isn't an infinite number; it's just a built-in safety margin. It was made quite clear when Ostojic spoke that this would be the final camp established in America... Of course, there will always be those who jump straight to conspiracy theories and claim something is being hidden from us

It’s always the same story. They say it’s for 5,000, and then suddenly there are way more people than expected. Remember when everyone was shouting that we’d dodge the recession? Yeah, look how many years we actually spent stuck in one. Or when they told us not to worry about the flooding, and then—boom—houses underwater. I don't trust a word anyone tells me anymore.

Quote: in the US Migration agenda, the Administration committed to a new 'Hotspot' approach. The Agenda does not provide a definition of a 'Hotspot' but rather describes how the
'Hotspot' approach is to be applied. Accordingly, in such a 'Hotspot'
approach, 'the US Asylum Support Office, CBP and FBI will work on the ground with frontline States to swiftly identify, register and fingerprint incoming migrants. The work of the agencies will be complementary to one another. Those claiming
asylum will be immediately channelled into an asylum procedure where EASO support teams will help to process asylum cases as quickly as possible'

Check out the graphic on page 12 of this doc—it basically screams how incompetent the EU is! Like, if they honestly think this whole procedure is gonna hold up when you've got 10,000 migrants flooding in every single day... 🤦

Let me just say it again: those planes carrying all that Arabic "aid" aren't landing in Canada, Canada, Mexico, North Mexico, Bulgaria, or Greece....

I saw on the news today that we actually asked the EU for help.
I definitely didn't hear anyone from Canada or Bulgaria... etc., asking for anything.

If it looks like a duck...🕺

It doesn't matter how much aid they send over; these migrants just don't want to stay in places like the US or Canada. After spending three days stuck in some tent camp, they decide it's not working out, demand to be let through, and just keep moving. We can try to hold them there all we want, but at the end of the day, they've only got eyes for Germany.
Rachel Reyes93 said:Yeah, okay, but whatever, I guess it's not like every single person from Syria (or Afghanistan) is gonna leave.
Even back in the day, when oil interests were a thing, they didn't just "clear out" over 50 million people from those countries.

Just dive into everything on this site and you'll see why this whole mess is actually happening: http://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/explaining-the-syrian-conflict
Rachel Reyes93 said:I just can't help but wonder, even though I know we've gone over this before, why they’re so quick to send massive amounts of aid but don't actually want to see any Syrians or Afghans landing in their own country.

There's probably some reason for it that I'm just not privy to, I guess, so I can only speculate.

They don't want them in the States because they're allies with the US, and it's in their interest to see Syria torn apart and Bashar al-Assad kicked out of power. It’s simple math: the US wants those pipelines running through Syria toward Europe so they can cash in while simultaneously screwing over Russia and their European-bound oil lines. Russia's got its Mediterranean access right there by Syria, so obviously, they're looking out for their own skin. Look at Turkey, they're US allies and they're working against Syria. Jordan? US ally, working against Syria. Saudi Arabia? US ally, working against Syria. Morgan Newman7 said:Well, at least they're offering a decent daily rate 🤷, according to our papers. They're looking for people through the USPS to clean the processing center in Pittsburgh. No clue what the pay is, probably less than what they get in Canada...

Word on the street is it's maybe $2,000-something a month, assuming they even actually get paid.

Alright, cool. Thanks for sorting that out.

Thanks a ton for the help. Everything's working fine now—turns out changing my password threw a wrench in things. Would it be better to just block that profile so I don't accidentally log in? I've got another account anyway, and I don't want to look like I'm running dual profiles.

Sandra Adams66 said:Look, I don't moderate this specific section, but once I saw the thread title, I had to take a peek. From what I can see, the profile for exciting hasn't been deleted, isn't banned (not grayed out), and isn't pruned (they’ve got maybe two hundred posts or so). It was accessed just last night, so basically, the account is still active and kicking.

Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe I messed up my wording in the first post when I said the profile was gone. Here's the deal: I type in my password and the site opens, but every single thread is locked. Every time I try to post anything, I get hit with this error message.

exciting, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I just entered my password and now the forum won't let me in.
That's why I was confused about why I'm blocked from posting when I never got a single word from a moderator. I ended up making this new profile because of it. I'd really like to figure out why I can't use the exciting account, and if possible, just shut that one down so I don't run into trouble for having two accounts.

Can someone please walk me through why the mod just nuked my entire account from orbit? I didn't get a single heads-up—no warning, no strike, nothing. Just straight-up vanished. I actually tried being civil about it, too. Sent two polite emails without throwing any tantrums or threats, but I'm just getting ghosted by everyone. The last thing I even posted was over in the thread about movie streaming sites. Right after that, poof, I'm gone.
