The King of Kings [1961] in Movies ·
Bryan Rogers87 said:It’s a valid topic, but let’s look at them side-by-side regarding the actual risks involved. Honestly, King of Kings was a safe bet with nothing to lose; it’s just your standard Hollywood blockbuster featuring Jesus looking like a model, wrapped in over-the-top dialogue and high production values. It’s a polished film—good, certainly—but it isn't particularly brave. It plays it safe by catering exactly to its target audience and giving them precisely what they expect to see...

Compared to that, Passion could have easily faced backlash from both sides—from the Jews and from Christians themselves—because it wasn't clear how the Christian community would react to such extreme violence. It’s easy to play general after the battle is over...

Yes, I completely agree. 👍
Ultimately, it comes down to personal taste. When I said the movie wasn't good, I meant it wasn't good to ME, which doesn't mean it's objectively bad. 😁

Given when it was made, King couldn't have been any different.

Bryan Rogers87 said:I don't think that was the issue, especially since they risked alienating a huge chunk of the audience with that kind of presentation (the rating). It ended up with an R-rating, but they could have easily landed an NC-17, which certainly isn't a great way to make money...

Given that 99% of their target audience falls outside that specific rating, they had nothing to lose.

But the real subject here is To be the King of Kings.

👍

I simply stated that I don't care for such brutal depictions, and that's why I think the movie is bad. Don't try to twist my words now 😉
It felt more like they were just chasing a paycheck through hype and shock value rather than actually telling a story. Again, that's just my opinion.

Reading comprehension is clearly not your strong suit if you're grasping at straws 😉 👍 moving on.

Yes, just like those "scientists" of yours.🤣
At least I don't parade around claiming "hard evidence." I simply stated my opinion, and I have clearly noted multiple times that this is merely my own perspective. 👍
Now, go ahead and point out where I am actually making a definitive claim. 🤷

Everything you read on the internet is absolute truth.👍>

Bryan Rogers87 said:If we take the biblical account at face value—that Jesus suffered through Roman crucifixion—then this depiction of the Passion is far closer to "reality" than any other portrayal of that event we've seen until now...
.

It is much more realistic to assume he was scourged and crucified as traditionally depicted, rather than just being left to rot for days on end.🤷

Anyway, debating the absolute reality of it all is pointless. 👍

It just bothers me that they opted for shock value instead of focusing their efforts on more significant details.

That's just my take, if you're happy with your version. 😉

The Passion is such a terrible movie that even Monica can't save it.

They just went for shock value and nothing else.

You can't even put Passion of the Christ in the same sentence as this movie.

Personally, this is the best film about Jesus ever made.

Sure, profit was the initial driver behind "helping" folks, but after going through so much personal pain during the filming and seeing the struggles other people deal with, he couldn't just keep doing it for the paycheck. That's the whole point of the story—that transformation into a "true hero," opening his eyes and breaking free from that shallow, one-dimensional way of looking at life.

That's just how I saw it. 😉

I saw it the exact same way.

It’s especially obvious in the scene where he tells his assistant to sell the car just so they can provide medicine to a client.

I can already see the itardovacs pushing to catch this movie later while trash-talking all over the forums.

The second I saw that "original innovator" tag on the trailer, I knew exactly which way this was heading.

Ryan Wilson2 said:As long as it's half as entertaining as the first one, it'll be way better than all those boring White House savior tropes and typical heroes.

Actually, forget what I said—I watched the trailer and saw John Malkovich 🤣 right at the start, so I already know it’s going to be a great movie. 😁

Agreed.
The first part was surprisingly fun. It's the perfect kind of movie where you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.

A little tipsy right now.
But I recall you giving that movie a thumbs up over on Looper.
Honestly, this movie is a total indie gem. I'd definitely recommend it to any sci-fi fans out there.
By the way, just an idea.
Imagine watching this movie while you're buzzed. It would be quite an experience.
Might be worth a shot. Seems like it could be great.

Basically, it just proves what I was saying back during Prometheus.
I'm honestly gravitating more and more toward movies where you have to fill in the blanks yourself. You brought this topic back from the dead, Austin Rodriguez5, so I went back and read my very first post. Everything else just feels monotonous and exhausting lately. I’d definitely recommend checking out the Triangle thread—there were some great discussions there—and Cronocrimenes, which I think I actually started myself. Maybe Exam, too. It's a shame these kinds of films aren't more mainstream.
Basically, I'm about to go rewatch Triangl.
I'm really in the mood right now.
I'm pretty much a legend at this point.
Cheers!

I don't think Primer would work well with alcohol; it would simply be too difficult to follow.😁

But I agree, I also prefer films that give you the chance to fill in the gaps and form your own vision of everything.

To me, Primer was fascinating because of the concept and how it handled time travel. It was totally minimalist, and it's actually quite easy to apply that idea to a modern context since it doesn't rely on heavy technology.
Everything is explained very well, yet despite that, I spent hours after watching it scouring various forums and websites dedicated to the film. A true indie gem.

I'll add Triangle and Cronocrimenes to my list.
I've seen Exam, but in my opinion, it's just a weaker clone of The Cube. Especially because of the ending.

It’s been ages since I watched this, so I went looking for the thread.

A total masterpiece.
The concept is brilliant and executed with incredible precision. After the credits rolled, I spent hours reading up on it just to wrap my head around how the entire system works. It’s genius without feeling overblown or pretentious. 😁

My only gripe is that it can be a bit of a struggle to follow because of all the heavy technical jargon.
Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could clarify whether non-business days are included in the pickup window.

I just got a notification stating that I have a 5-day window to pick up my package, starting from August 11th. If they include weekends in that count, the deadline falls on this Saturday. However, I’m going to be out of town until Monday, so I need to know if I can still grab it on Tuesday. Will they send it back since Monday would technically be the fifth day?

Who killed Verna? 🙂

Actually, it’s a really interesting movie—definitely one of the better ones I've seen lately.

The best part was that photo at the end during the credits again.
The first one was actually pretty good. Just to be clear, they didn't know whether to pee or poop in this one.
I'm really wondering if they'll actually dare to make a third one using the same formula, because that would be a bit much.

Oh yeah, I was reading through the previous posts, and what bothered me most was Zach Galifianakis, which surprised me since I know he's a great comedian.
See, in the first film he plays a fool, and his overacting is definitely excessive; I don't remember him being like that in the first one.
Then in the second one, he becomes Superman—smart, knows everything, gets it... Just be a little consistent.
Is his wedding coming up in the third one?

It's just great how you decided that for all of us.

The movie is solid. It might not hit quite as hard as the first one, but there are some top-tier jokes in here. I’d recommend it to anyone just looking to have a good time. And don't fall for those "intellectual" posts claiming the film is bad just because everything feels copied. That doesn't make it a bad movie at all.

Wait, if it's a draw, there isn't any overtime? They just play the whole thing over again?

Thomas Bishop85 said:Look, do you honestly think anyone would bother watching a game if the outcome was a foregone conclusion? Of course there's a chance. Every team in the Grand Final has a shot. Just two years ago, everyone was calling Geelong the heavy favorites, and yet Hawthorn pulled it off.

It’s airing on Eurosport, but watching it that way is like sitting in a local pub for an intense rivalry game—it's just not the same. It’s much better when you're with a huge group of Americans, enjoying some great breakfast served up at the pub...

Will there be a good turnout?

I'm interested, but I really don't feel like buzzing around town at 6:00 AM. 😁
