I see you're struggling to wrap your head around this, just like everyone else who thinks they're on my side. That was a quote from Biden, not me.
If you really want to be difficult about it, go back and look at my posts from a few months ago. I called this exact scenario a possibility then.

I make a living out of planning, and I’ve already called this exact scenario before. I’m ready.

You're spinning things and twisting the facts again. You originally wrote that Biden said the US and the EU would face food shortages, but he never actually said it the way you're trying to frame it now.

Not once does he even mention the US or the EU.
That’s enough spinning and twisting of the truth.

To get the full picture, just look at the comments from Americans under that Twitter post.

hollowdriver13 said:Izvrces, just say whatever fits your narrative, man.

He doesn't even mention the US or the EU specifically; he just says "many countries worldwide will feel the impact due to the sanctions imposed." Basically, food prices are gonna spike in the US and Europe, and places like Africa and Asia are going to get absolutely hammered since those struggling nations rely so heavily on exports from the big players, not to mention the mess with Ukraine and Russia.

Is it really that hard to find and grasp two sentences in a twenty-second clip? Or do I need to provide a timestamped pointer for you?
"With regard to food shortages, yes we did talk about food shortages and it's gonna be real. The price of these sanctions is not just imposed on Russia, it is imposed on an awful lot of countries, including European countries and our country as well."

Why all the nerves? Looks like you missed the point entirely—probably because that massive one-sentence paragraph was just too much for you to wrap your head around. For the record, those aren't my words; I’m just quoting the most responsible experts in the field. ☕

You clearly don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about.

Does food just sprout from thin air, or does it actually need fertilizer first? Where does that come from? Where does the gas used to make the fertilizer come from?

By the way, try dialing back the aggression in your posts.

Oil hitting $130
Natural gas at $3,600
Wheat is up 40%. With Russia and Ukraine being the heavyweights in global exports—and Russia leading the charge on fertilizer and everything else...

The USA can feed itself and still has plenty of energy in reserve.
Russia? They can also cover their own food and fuel needs internally.
The EU? They’re just stuck watching everyone else eat and drive.

It’s fascinating, really. These people who get a kick out of seeing others struggle. If this keeps up, they'll be howling in a few months when reality finally hits them right in the face.

Gerald Chavez7 said:Omicron is spreading incredibly fast—everyone’s probably going to catch it at some point. Honestly, if you've been vaccinated or already had it, you should be fine (it'll likely be a milder version anyway), while those who haven't had either will just deal with it exactly like everything else we've seen so far.

The variant has been circulating in the States for weeks now. Last time I checked, nobody was even hitting the hospital, let alone ending up on a ventilator or dead. It’s not even close to being identical.
These are official figures. Any doom-and-gloom predictions from some neighborhood fortune teller just look like a calculated attempt to stir up panic.

Don't hold your breath. I've seen enough disappointment in this life to know better. steelfox98 says:
Where exactly did you say they don't bother to ask?
Look at this thread... honestly, are you even aware of what you're posting?
The vote on that bill just gave Andrej Plenković and Horvat all the leverage they need to brush this under the rug and point the finger at everyone else. Typical. I remember when things actually meant something in DC, before this constant deflection became the norm. It’s exhausting.
Is it really that hard to see? For anyone with half a brain cell left, this is just more typical Republican-style bullshit. I've seen this circus before, back when I was working those long shifts in Chicago. It never changes.

I suppose so, but if that's how you want to play it, you clearly aren't interested in actually communicating.
They voted for that desperate Republican law out of pure populism, too afraid to touch the one issue that actually triggers their voters. And then, predictably, those criminals have the nerve to claim, "Even the opposition supported our bill!" Typical.

If you see it, you see it. If you don't, you don't. Honestly, those Republicans should have just stayed home that day—not just skipping the vote, but staying out of the country entirely. People like that would still be out there blindly trusting Andrej Plenković regardless.

It’s obvious to everyone now. If the opposition had actually pulled themselves together back then—even with that one unconventional move on such a sensitive issue—they could have pivoted the focus toward yet another Republican disaster. If they had, Andrej Plenković wouldn't be standing there today talking about "opposition support." Not a chance.
We all knew that any legislation birthed by the Republican Party was bound to be a disaster, but I didn't realize just how catastrophic it would actually be. Did you? Would you have paid more attention if every single opposition member had voted against that reconstruction bill? I certainly would have.

"Quote:"
Look, if they hadn't voted for it, Andrej Plenković would just be pointing fingers anyway. He’d claim they didn't give a damn about people sitting out there without a roof over their heads. He’d argue that reconstruction would only be halfway done if they hadn't backed that law. It's all just a load of nonsense.
He’d love to call them out, but he'd end up swallowing his own pride just to cover for another one of those Republican Party stunts. Typical.
They broke his quorum, so we just sat there laughing at his pathetic whining. It’s the same old story. Right after the election, every single opposition leader refused to even grab a coffee with him. They knew better. With Andrej Plenković, you don't get a conversation—you only get a knife in the back.
Look at what happened last week. Everyone was fixated on Wolfgang Schäuble and that predictable mess over at NBC. It was all a distraction. We saw how the opposition used their blockade to push a visibly rattled Andrej Plenković into cutting the live broadcast of the session. Typical.

"Quote:"
It always comes back to this. The Republicans will find some way to pin their own mess on someone else. It's predictable. Those who actually want to hold them accountable will see it, and those who don't... well, they won't. Same old story.
Everything else is just mindless spin. It’s a desperate attempt to twist the truth so hard you end up biting your own tongue. I've seen this dance before.
Was that aimed at me?
Let’s be real: that disastrous Republican law gave them all the cover they needed. Like you said, everything else is just pure spin. To me, this is nothing more than classic Republican-style damage control to justify their own screw-ups.

"Quote:"
Yeah, they voted for that bill. Just like they spent the entire night protesting outside the US Congress before everything was dissolved for elections, all because they were desperate to push that specific legislation through first.
The whole point was to get that damn law passed so reconstruction could actually kick off.
The plan was to just tweak and amend things on the fly as problems popped up on the ground—as long as they got moving.
I can say this with total confidence: even the harshest critics and haters of the Republican Party—and I proudly count myself among them—never imagined these people would sit on their hands for over a year, completely indifferent while we head into another winter.
The Republican Party would have pushed that law through even without any opposition, but hey—some of them actually did vote for it. That’s despite the fact that the Republican Party rejected every single meaningful amendment meant to fix it. Don't quote me on the specifics, but I think they conceded on a few trivial ones.

I absolutely agree with that last part, but that’s my whole point. If the opposition had actually united back then, they would have realized something smelled way worse than usual. Like that whole situation with Wolfgang Schäuble.

hollowmason64 said:Wait, "a little tougher"???
Seriously, please tell me how passing a law becomes just "a little tougher" when you already have the 76 votes you need to make it happen?
I am dying of curiosity here, please, I really need to hear an explanation for that logic. 🙂

Quincy:
So, are you saying the Democratic Party and the Progressives voted for a disastrously bad law, but they aren't responsible for it???
Of course not. How can you be held accountable for managing something when you don't have a single lever at your disposal—not even a tiny bit of influence over any of them?

Your logic is a bit shaky 😵 — on one hand, you're arguing that if the opposition hadn't supported the law, citizens would notice, but now that nothing is getting built, citizens don't seem to care?
Are you saying back then it would have been obvious the law was bad because the opposition rejected it, but now nobody knows who to blame for the lack of progress?
You're being a little contradictory here.

Where did I ever say citizens aren't asking questions now?
They voted for a disastrously bad law, effectively handing Joe Biden and that genius Smith an excuse to use the classic Republican tactic: shifting all the blame onto the opposition.

What really gets to me is seeing these constant Republican-style excuses for the other side's screw-ups on this forum. They voted, but it doesn't matter. They lied, but it doesn't matter.
It feels like reading an epic poem written by two opposing machines stuck in a loop. 🙂

And yeah, sure, I voted for Eric Adams in the local elections just to kick out Al Capone, Dilbert, and their whole crew. That doesn't mean I'm going to blindly defend every blatant mistake they make.

Edward Cooper2 said:The opposition doesn't hold executive power, so they aren't responsible for a single move made by the current administration. What you're saying is just Plenković's mantra.
The Greens and the Democrats had to vote for the reconstruction law. If they hadn't, the Republican Party and their media allies (meaning about 90 percent of the mainstream press) would have run the entire local election campaign on one theme: "they refused to start the rebuilding process while poor people are stuck living in shipping containers and cramped hotel rooms."
If the Greens and Democrats wanted to stay honest while still getting what they wanted, they did exactly that. They knew they were barely six months away from local elections. Politics is the filthiest business there is...

What actually interests me about this whole reconstruction story is the prices Bandić paid for construction materials that he was handing out left and right without any oversight.

Where on earth did I claim the opposition holds executive authority?
They voted for it—YES, they DID.
Did everyone else vote for it? NO, they didn't.

Plenković can chant his mantras all he wants because the Democrats and the Progressives gave him every reason to.

Quincy:
The Progressives and the Democrats had to vote for the reconstruction bill. If they hadn't, the Republican Party and their media allies—basically 90% of the mainstream outlets—would have spent the entire local election campaign hammering them: "they blocked the recovery efforts while poor families were stuck in shipping containers and cramped hotel rooms."
Why didn't the other opposition members feel forced to? Or should we just admit they went full populist just to secure votes at the polls?

Quincy:
If the Progressives and Democrats wanted to stay clean and honest, they could have. But they knew the local elections were only six months away. Politics is the filthiest business there is.

What really bothers me about this whole reconstruction mess is the price gouging I saw when Bandić was buying construction supplies to hand out left and right without any oversight.
Now we see it could have been done differently. There were actually reasonable people back then who chose not to support a bad law, even if it hurt them politically ahead of the elections.

Christian Torres3 said:Let me ask you something (and I know you won't answer), are the Democratic Party and Možemo actually responsible for how the law is carried out? And is Horvat some minister appointed because of a Možemo or Democratic Party quota?

They’re responsible for polishing their image while ignoring massive legal loopholes. If M! and the Democratic Party actually had some backbone and didn't vote for this, people might wonder why the united opposition isn't backing the nation's absolute number one priority.
The way things are, Plenković and Smith can easily dodge blame by claiming the opposition supported their legislation.
Bottom line: M! and the Democratic Party just wanted to screw everyone over while keeping their hands clean.

Yeah, they screwed up and brought criminals into office—five years ago.
Just look at the recent elections; that argument is completely hollow now. They had a chance in San Francisco, for instance, and they blew it. Or back in the Midwest, if I recall correctly.

Some people learn from their mistakes and move on. Others just keep repeating things from five years ago while ignoring what happened five months ago. That tells you everything you need to know about their logic.
