How do I overcome anxiety? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Paul Thomas81 said:I’m honestly at a loss for words here. It wasn't always like this for me. Back in the day, standing my ground, fighting for myself—even getting into a scrap and either winning or losing—none of it bothered me. I just never backed down. But lately, whenever something happens, I just freeze. I hit a wall and have no idea how to react.
Take a ridiculous situation from a few weeks ago. I went out with an old friend, someone I've known for years. We hadn't seen each other in months because I intentionally stepped back after she got into a relationship; I didn't want to cause any drama or mess up her new thing. It was around Christmas, so I reached out to wish her a Merry Christmas and a happy birthday, and we met up for a walk. Everything was going fine until her boyfriend showed up. He started screaming at her, accusing her of cheating on him with me, and then he gets right in her face. Then he turns his sights on me, looking for a fight and trying to bully me. I walked home absolutely livid with myself for letting some guy treat me like garbage. And what if he had turned on her? What if he’d laid a hand on her? I know I acted like a coward, and I'm pissed at myself for it, but I just froze. I completely locked up and couldn't find the nerve to push back. Why? I have no clue.

😲 ybt, what a psycho... it's not your fault she found a lunatic to be her boyfriend. There's no point in picking a fight with someone unhinged. Did you even try telling him you guys have been friends for decades and he needs to stop making a scene?

I realize it’s going to take a massive amount of time and absolutely brutal training sessions, and I want to go for it. But like I said, there's this constant loop in my head telling me I won't make it, that I'm too old, or whatever. Believe me, I'd give anything to stop limiting myself and just live my life, but I honestly don't know how to break out of it.🤷

Whether you hit the pro level or not isn't the point. What matters is doing what actually makes you happy. Personally, I'd much rather train in a combat sport than go to an aerobics or Pilates class. I tried those before; they were just too boring.🍿

I honestly can’t imagine what it’s like to go through life without someone occasionally pushing back against you. I’ve forgotten what that feels like—if such a period even existed for me. Have I ever been laughed at? Of course. Been judged? Definitely. 🥳 So why does that scare you?

I don't care if it stays visible to everyone else, I just want this stupid pop-up to stop hitting my screen. Can anyone help out or give me a tip on how to fix this myself?

Also, how do you set up links in a signature like yours? It keeps telling me I don't have permission to use URL code.
I don't get why there's so much misinformation out there about cancer. It's inevitable that cases will rise since the population is aging, right? Plus, it's hitting every age group now, from infants upward.
I don't know much about Belodin, but Rinolan usually kicks in after about three days.

Does anyone actually grasp the sheer volume of obligations placed upon a child in the lower elementary grades these days? It is quite frankly staggering. Between the mandatory television screen time, a morning load of homework spanning four or five different subjects, and then the inevitable afternoon assignments—it is an exhausting cycle. And if the parents decide to enroll them in after-school language programs or music lessons, you are essentially looking at a full-time job for someone who hasn't even hit puberty yet. It is a relentless schedule.

It seems to me that in this country, there is a fundamental lack of consideration for the well-being of children. Even under normal circumstances, the scheduling is quite absurd; high school students are expected to endure classes from 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM without so much as a single break for lunch. To make matters worse, the current situation has become even more taxing. You have fifteen different subject teachers, each operating under the delusion that they must assign homework with a deadline of tomorrow morning. It is an inefficient and frankly exhausting way to manage education.

Forget it! You really ought to make use of your time wisely, at least now while you're actually home with your child. Before you even have a chance to turn around, they'll be grown, and you’ll find yourself looking back with nothing but regret.
Do you truly believe they will hold onto memories of their school days? I suspect not. Academic instruction is a fleeting, often tedious affair that fades into a dull fog of rote memorization. However, the time spent playing with you—that shared engagement—is something far more indelible. One forgets the curriculum, but one never forgets the company.
There was a time when the American educational system actually demanded something of its students. The rigor of our schools used to be significantly more substantial than what we see today.

Wait, what would you even do right now if you could turn back the clock and be stuck at home with a kid during a pandemic?
Jerry Robinson56 said:You're exaggerating. You simply need to start engaging with them...

Do you have any idea how much pressure an elementary school kid carries these days? An hour of TV, homework for four or five different subjects in the morning, more homework in the afternoon—and if they’re enrolled in after-school tutoring or music lessons, you can add that to the pile.

Honestly, people in this country don't seem to get what kids go through. Even high schoolers are stuck in classes from 7 AM to 3 PM without a real lunch break, and it only gets worse because you've got fifteen different teachers all assuming their specific assignment needs to be finished by tomorrow morning.
Jesse Hughes6 said:And so what? We have a lifeless clump of protein and RNA—otherwise known as a virus—settling on a surface and staying there. Who knows. Where exactly is it supposed to go or how is it even meant to vanish?
The real question is how infectious that virus actually is and for how long. And we simply don't know.
The WHO claims transmission happens via droplets, not through aerosolized particles floating in the air or jumping from person to person. So, if you've touched a "contaminated" surface, just don't touch your face and wash your hands.

We’re doing just fine entertaining ourselves, reading, and playing. We even have a Facebook group for our local preschool where they post all sorts of educational activities.
But obviously, that's all happening inside the house—though luckily we have a patio so he can get some fresh air and run around—and it doesn't come close to playing with peers all day long. He misses his friends, and a kid can't wrap his head around why he isn't allowed outside. Why he can't ride his bike, play with his buddies, go to the beach to throw rocks in the ocean, or just hike in nature. He doesn't understand any of it, and THAT is what makes it hard. It's not difficult because I'm struggling to be home with him. The sheer amount of energy built up during the day is massive with nowhere to burn it off; the kid is frustrated and his moods are constantly shifting. And I'm talking about a relatively mellow child, so I don't even want to imagine what it would be like if he were one of those high-energy types.

Mine is definitely high-energy. Yesterday, he tore a strip off a blanket, tied it to a chair and a cabinet handle, and spent an hour using it as a jump rope. 🤷

Kids are bursting at the seams. It's the truth.

Quick question if anyone knows—what’s the protocol if a kid decides to switch instruments after their first year?

If you eat grains regularly, you really need to look into
phytic acid. It acts as an anti-nutrient and can actually strip minerals from your body. https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.vecer...tarica-1279356

darktinker4 said:Does anyone here happen to have the virus? Or maybe there's a doctor hanging out online who's got a free minute?
What kind of all the symptoms look like? Like, how does it actually lead to death? I'm curious about what specifically causes it. What’s the whole thing even like? If anyone knows and doesn't want to freak out the people who are already panicking, feel free to just shoot me a private message.

Not a doctor, but it usually starts with a scratchy throat and a cough, then moves to shortness of breath. Death comes from suffocation because mucus blocks the lung's alveoli.
It can also pass without any symptoms at all. Drink plenty of fluids. Personally, when my throat gets sore, I pop some garlic in my mouth and use a Zepter lamp to warm the area, and it's gone in a day.
Don't know if that would work for this virus, but it wouldn't hurt.

I was actually looking into taking it myself because my immune system has been feeling pretty weak lately, but man, that price tag is just brutal 🤷 I know they pack these things with shiitake mushrooms, some vitamins, calcium, and all that good stuff, though I can't remember the full list off the top of my head.

You can get beta glucan from oats, too. You just have to soak them in an acidic medium for about eight hours before cooking to get rid of the phytic acid.

The infection only hit the people he accidentally spat on while talking. 😁

Could someone with medical expertise weigh in on this video?

A German internist argues that the treatment protocols used for COVID patients have been way too aggressive, suggesting they might be partly responsible for the high death tolls seen in Italy.
He’s specifically pointing to heavy doses of cortisol, Maximiliano, Lopinarvir, Ritonavir, and interferon. I'm also curious if these same types of treatments are being applied to the severe cases we're seeing here in the States.

Sarah Hall53 said:I’ll make one honorable exception for those dual-subject instructors who actually teach their second subject and have put in the hours alongside us in the trenches. To me, they’re the only ones who truly count as both specialists and collaborators. In fact, I’d love to see that turned into an actual legal requirement: you should have to teach your second subject for at least 4 to 6 hours a week. It would be a great way to build some empathy, don't you think? ☕
It reminds me of how things work over in Germany—even the principals there have certain obligations, like having to manage at least one classroom themselves, just so they don't lose touch with what's actually happening on the ground.

Spot on. This definitely needs to happen.

Flu symptoms in Health ·
Henry Hernandez68 said:Is it actually normal for a primary care doctor to insist you show up in person just to get a sick note for the flu?

The guy was hit with a 102 fever yesterday afternoon—muscle aches, killer headache, the whole classic flu experience. We were trying everything to bring the temperature down, but by this morning, it had spiked right back up. He can barely even stand; he looks like death warmed over. He calls the doctor around 7:30 AM, and they tell him it’s probably the flu and they’ll write him a sick note, but then the nurse jumps in and says, "Nope, nothing can be done over the phone, the doctor has to see him first." So now, he had to trek out there while being incredibly contagious. We sat there waiting for maybe 45 minutes because he didn't have an appointment, and honestly, he probably infected half the waiting room, including me since I had to go with him. He was so weak, and it was just brutal watching him struggle to stay upright with a massive fever just so a doctor could spend two measly minutes signing a piece of paper.😕

I really don't get this approach. Whenever I'm sick, I always head over and wait outside the door if I'm not working, because I know the nurse is always going to say you have to come in. But this is the flu! The person is a walking contagion! It's obvious that because they have to deal with all the people who are faking it, the ones who are actually suffering end up getting punished for it.🙂

Man. This needs to be reported. This doctor is putting everyone in the waiting room—and the patients themselves—at risk.
