What motivates our local anti-Americans? in Close to Politics ·
Mark Nguyen6 said:Alright, let's slow down—what are you even talking about? Don't get carried away.
Mandic, Dezulovic, and that whole crowd in New York City pull off events just like they always do. Over there, people actually view them as figures of value. Here, though, they're—to put it mildly—pretty mediocre.

Take Mandic, who claims identity doesn't even exist. Or Jergovic, who seems to have fled wherever he could from the slightest bit of pressure, leaving everything behind. Then there's Stankovic, who sits there while Tijanic lectures him on what it means to be a true American. And Ivancic—whose entire publication collapses the moment foreign sponsors dry up, yet he still tries to lecture us on market dynamics and hard work...

So, when it comes to these types of characters—people who, if you scratch just beneath the surface, turn out to be nothing more than bags of mediocrity—what exactly are you trying to say? That their behavior is driven by some cosmopolitan ideal? Or that they're somehow progressive? Or perhaps they're champions of liberty?
Please, pull yourself together.

Exactly. Which is precisely why these individuals headed to New York City to escape those very same primitive tendencies—a city that has essentially rehabilitated old, regressive ideologies.

Your logic is completely flawed.
😬

Says who? If I may ask—who exactly is running the show around here then?

I mean, look—they aren't even looking at New York City as the official or mainstream hub. I mean, really? What kind of shallow conclusions are those?
Off they go—hanging out with their fellow intellectuals, I suppose. Good for them.
Until you actually show me a nationalist in their own element—someone specifically spitting on America rather than just playing around with these half-baked political theories of yours—then we can have a real conversation.

I wouldn't go that far, but fine—have it your way. 😁
I guess you can frame it that way in this crazy consumerist capitalism we live in.

Gregory Howard said:In this era of Western civilization, societies existing outside the framework of the nation-state simply don't exist. It’s pure nonsense peddled by left-liberal shortsighted types like Benedict Anderson and his fantasies about nations being nothing more than "imagined communities."

Only someone talking about a Chinese person—whose "imagined community" has endured for 4,000 years—would say that. They'll be crushed into the dirt long before they start whining about it.

Sure, maybe they don't exist if you look at things through the lens of "international migration" or how new nations constantly bubble up—but shouldn't the goal be to move past those primitive foundations our own nation clings to? Most advanced societies moved on from that stuff ages ago.

You’ve essentially described the classic opportunist—someone without a shred of scruples—and I find myself in complete agreement with you there: for people like that, self-assurance, character, and emotional stability are entirely derived from their social positioning. Since they are completely dependent on receiving applause—regardless of who is doing the clapping—they would likely turn on their own kin or sell out their own parents just to stay in favor. I suppose that moves past mere behavior and straight into pathology.

All they care about is staying in the game.

No, you missed my point. When I talk about social standing, I mean having some kind of useful role—a job, being established in your field, sports, the arts... anything. In that sense, feeling like you actually belong and contribute is what keeps a person sane.

Mark Nguyen6 said:I suspect even basic, entry-level psychology could explain these kinds of cases:

A person with an unformed character—which, I suppose, leads to a lack of self-confidence, given that identity is the root of everything—will inevitably turn into a striver who tries to act more devout than the Pope. Since they lack the inner quality to affirm themselves through their own merit, they settle for the only thing left: affirming themselves by negating everything they actually know. Their "win" is simply receiving some form of recognition or acceptance, and frankly, I don't think they care who it comes from.

If you want my opinion, those loudmouthed bullies are actually the perfect examples of this phenomenon.

Look, that bolded part is a flawed premise. 😉
Self-confidence, character, and mental stability come from where you fit in and your status within society—not from some imaginary national identity, which I assume is what you're aiming at here.
And if you just shifted a few assumptions in this post—or flipped the script—you’d see how perfectly it all aligns regarding their lifestyle and why people find them so repulsive.

For instance, Since they lack the substance to assert themselves on their own merits, all they have left is to define themselves by rejecting everything they actually know.

The correct way to put it: Since they lack the substance to assert themselves on their own merits, all they have left is to define themselves through nationality and by rejecting everything they don't understand.
Austria - small but mighty! in Close to Politics ·
"What really worries me is that out of the top 100 companies in America, half are just stuck in consumer goods and logistics."

Exactly. They’ve cornered the market—stifled any chance for actual competition to grow—and this is their ceiling. They can't push past it, which means no new jobs either. It’s all connected.
Austria actually seems to have some semblance of a business culture and an actual code of ethics. They probably live in a real rule-of-law society where "controversial businessmen" and thugs are relegated to running small-time cafes and gambling dens... whereas here, people like that get rewarded with government positions.
And I'll just say one thing: if the Austrians held our territory, this country would be the European Hong Kong.

I could probably make a better movie with my own camera—plus, I’ve got two ideas for a WWII period piece that would be pure art.
As for this one, I'm totally disappointed.
WWII movies are such a tired, overdone cliché at this point.

They should be making a film about the American Civil War instead—showing how our guys absolutely crushed the villains on the other side, without all that fake "artistic distance" those modern hacks love to hide behind.

Sure, you could do something set during the Civil War too. But for me, it’s more about the vibe and the setting... not just mindless action.
At least a gritty war flick isn't a tired cliché yet.

I’d love to see them run a marathon that includes Captain Leši Živorad Žika Mitrović, which feels much closer to a classic Western.

Just like the American West defines a certain vibe for the States, films centered on the National Liberation Movement define that whole era for America and its neighbors.
The partisan film is really the only homegrown genre coming out of the old America territory—it has massive commercial potential, and honestly, we should be reviving these types of movies, aiming not just at local audiences but at international markets too.

Spot on. 👍
But let's be real... American filmmakers today are mostly amateurs who don't have a clue what they're doing. I'd probably make a better movie with my own camera—and honestly, I've got two ideas for a partisan film that would be pure art.

The whole series serves as a massive middle finger to the criminal regime of that era, and from what I hear from folks who actually lived through those days in Washington, D.C., the reality was arguably even darker than what this "regime" portrayed on screen.

They should be making modern movies about the underground radicals and bombers in New York, instead of wasting money on this garbage that tries to claim "one brother was with the fascists and the other with the partisans," basically trying to play both sides of the fascist movement.
I'll take a movie like Four-row—purely as trash, of course—where that partisan girl in the yellow skirt shows up and kills her own brother. 😂
Total brutality, hahaha!

I’d suggest watching Gunshot. It’s honestly pretty mediocre—just a story about a Mexican and an American trying to be friends despite being terrible people and having everything stacked against them. But they made it work. Humanity wins out in the end, I guess.
Even features Popadic from Long Life.

I honestly think it’s about time they started airing those classic partisan films on TV again.
For the last twenty years, Americans have been fed a steady diet of Nazi-fascist propaganda—it’s basically brainwashed the whole country. Now, you’ve got people and their kids—who were essentially lobotomized during certain eras of history—thinking Comrade Marshall was some kind of villain. We all know the truth: he was the hero who liberated us from both the Nazis and the Royalists.
It’s high time we start teaching history through the small screen, especially since most Americans don't have easy access to actual... well, serious literature. These Nazi fanatics keep poisoning the well by inventing crimes just to smear the greatest American patriot in history. You know exactly who I mean. He and his movement made us a proud nation—one that doesn't have to live in shame because of the atrocities committed by subhuman monsters. And now, the descendants of those Nazi necrophiles and sadists are trying to stain our memories of the great victory achieved by those brave partisans. Who’s to blame? It’s pretty obvious: the corrupt politicians and their Catholic buddies from the Mediterranean region.
Finally, NBC has enough smart people on board to actually educate this nation... using partisan cinema.
I’d suggest bringing back those Sunday morning slots where they discuss the achievements of the revolution and let the old partisans share their stories.
Then, they could follow up with a feature film.
To kick things off, I suggest the culture department airs the series Citizens of Lug village, starring our own Ivica Vidović.
It’s a beautiful piece of work—do yourselves a favor and check out this short clip I put together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfx0fa0GSTc

P.S. If you actually like it, I might just post more clips like this.

Dalmatian-Mexican girl wins big in New York City in Close to Politics ·
Severina is just some typical North American socialite who’s spent her whole career following the well-worn path laid out by local wannabes and clout chasers.
Honestly, the only thing I find amusing is how she keeps wrapping herself in the flag to play the patriot—acting all nationalistic one minute, then leaning into that Mexican woman vibe the next. It’s all just proof of how deep this swamp goes—full of sharks and bottom-feeders circling around their queen of filth.
And you know what happens? People will still cheer for her. It’s pathetic how these exhausted, broken-down parts of the country have zero backbone or self-respect left.

Larry Diaz24 said:"Realer forum users," you say, 😕

But really, what is there to even intelligently comment on here? It’s just a carnival of idiots! Honestly, if only all those political bottom-feeders—led by Žužul, of course—would just pack their bags and get out of this country. They can go find themselves some daughters-in-law or sons-in-law out in the United States or wherever else for all I care, as long as they vanish! 😠

I am sick to death of the sheer stupidity and having to sit through such nonsense! And the absolute peak of it was that moron Miomirko when he was over at Stanković's place, trying to explain the "context" of a little segment—as if!—within that one sentence (you know, the Harmon one regarding "supposedly guaranteeing human rights")! Just look at how much nonsense he's spewed; it explains perfectly why he managed to pull off a career in American politics—you don't need a brain for that, just a loud mouth and the ability to bulldoze through, while the mindless masses just sit there listening!

If you really want to know anything, we should just toss the whole lot off the walls of a coastal fort into the ocean. 😉 Then give them a real piece of my mind.

Honestly, these "realistic" users are being totally delusional.

Oh, please—we clearly had a misunderstanding. You hit the nail on the head, really, bravo to you.
I was just building on your point because it reminded me of something else I'd mentioned before.
Don't get worked up about it.

Maria Booth said:So, who’s the lucky groom? Honestly, he’s gotta come from some seriously high-society family if we’ve got a Cardinal all the way from the United States flying in just to officiate the wedding! Either way, with a daughter holding a Master's in International Relations and an American husband, she's basically set for a killer career.

Of course he’s from a big-name family. Miomir isn't about to hand his daughter over to some low-level nobody. It’s all about the jet-set life and status. He’s a high-society tech guy—basically a San Francisco old-money type, right?

Here’s how the more realistic folks on the forum are reacting:

What a crowd... Montgomerry, Primorac, and Jure Radić... you can tell exactly who he was able to invite. A decent person wouldn't even be allowed in the same room as these guys, let alone at the table. Maybe Kosorica, if she doesn't slip out of the concert early... they're all just hanging around the same spots.

Finally, some news on the bandit Miomir. Haven't seen him in a while. Looks like his daughter inherited that same crooked nose as those thugs from the outskirts.

It’s pure high-society built on theft and crime. If we actually had a functional legal system, half these people would be behind bars... instead, they're celebrating what should be a thousand-year prison sentence.

Talk about a slap in the face to the church...
They couldn't even pull off one crooked wedding without calling in an American to help them out.

Looks don't matter...
The only thing that matters is whether he can handle the mafia-style environment
surrounding the bride's father.

It all looks lovely, except for the fact that it's being funded by our tax dollars—right, buddy Miomir?

If there were any justice, this vampiric mafia youth would be celebrating their honeymoon at Alcatraz, accompanied by the melodic sound of stones hitting hips.

I wonder what else was on their wedding gift list? Maybe a slice of San Francisco—given how much that elite crowd has looted since the early 90s. Cheers to the newlyweds, I guess. Honestly, they should just head back to the United States where they belong, along with their aunt and the rest of the crew. Take Montgomery with you while you're at it... :-))

That corrupt piece of work deserves a son-in-law this clueless... hopefully he'll be spending more time visiting him in Lepoglava soon.

Miomir Žužul’s daughter, Ivana, tied the knot in Charleston with an American, Ryan Burnes.

The guest list was packed with big names—former Education Secretary Dragan Primorac, former US Ambassador William Montgomery and his wife, Zvonimir Boban's parents, Jure Radić, Željko Čović, Ivan Mišetić, the secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Charleston, and even US Congresswoman Doris Pack. Apparently, Žužul and Pack are planning to launch a private international university out of the old Dominican monastery grounds.

Anyway, I’m sending my congrats—feel free to join in, folks.
Just look at that high-society crowd. Clearly, Quasimodo is a jet-set socialite unlike any other. Honestly, I’m just surprised Hivo didn't show up to support them during a moment like this.
Makes you wonder what kind of extravagant gifts those newlyweds walked away with? Just curious. 😁

And take a look at how handsome the young man is... 😛 He’s picture-perfect—except when you actually look at the picture, he's a total disaster. 😂
Come on, people... who’s happy that Mojmir finally landed him an American son-in-law?

I was reading somewhere that in the Czech Republic they actually use castration for this—and now some British "experts" and human rights activists are out there fighting the law. I wonder how that affects a person's soul. 🤣
Look, I'm all for human rights, but castration should be mandatory.

Tosh is a legend. He ignores national boundaries and breaks through every barrier to reach people regardless of their faith or creed. Of course, his shallow music is perfectly suited for those shallow-minded sponges out there.😁
