Best mobile apps for money transfers? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Sorry, ironcyclist58, but I honestly don't get what you're even saying...

So, there’s this option in the app where you can check "Pay / Donate." Look, I didn't just make that up—it's actually right there in the interface. But when you tap it, it pulls up this QR code scanner... and here's the thing—it doesn't seem to work with just any random QR code you find lying around to make a payment or a donation. It feels like it's looking for some kind of "special" QR code specifically designed for the app, if that makes sense...

That doesn't make any damn sense, sorry—not that what you're saying isn't logical, but the app itself is just totally half-assed if this is true... and honestly, it's pretty much a given that it is... 😢 )

Nah, I guess 🤷 there needs to be a specific QR code just for Oreos if you want to pay with them? Like... what? 😕

I actually got one today from a parking garage... Not sure if that counts as a message, but I was definitely getting those steady alerts letting me know my parking time was up.

Anyway, speaking of Oreos—is anyone else having issues with their app and scanning QR codes? It shows a "Pay/Donate" option, so I head over to some nonprofit's site, and they have a QR code right there. My Android scanner picks it up instantly, and even my Federal Reserve business app reads it without a hitch... but the Oreo Pay app just won't cooperate. Am I doing something wrong here, or what?...

How to send money without a bank account or a card? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Steven Evans97 said:Hey everyone,

This community always has such great ideas, so I wanted to pick your brains on a little dilemma. Someone I know on one side of the US wants to send some cash to someone on the other side of the country, but there's a catch: the recipient doesn't have a bank account. Now, I know about things like Western Union or sending a money order through the post office, but those fees are just brutal. Since this isn't a one-time thing and will probably happen every now and then, I’m looking for a way more budget-friendly way to handle an amount like $400.

The sender is all set with their own bank account, but the receiver is totally unbanked.

I know mobile apps like Chime offer super cheap—or even free—transfers, but if the person receiving the money needs actual physical cash in hand, they usually need a bank account linked to the app to withdraw it.

Right now, the post office seems like the only real option, but it’s a massive hassle for the sender and the fees eat into the total. Does anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks a million!

Or maybe at Bank of America. I think they don't charge monthly maintenance fees.
Seriously, who doesn't have a bank account these days? You need one for your paycheck, social security... for everything.

Since for some unknown reason that isn't an option (money laundering?), using the post office is the easiest way.

Sent from my iPhone using Reddit

Yeah, it's the simplest way, but man, sending that much cash through the mail is just way too expensive. Even the postal service knows they can squeeze you for it, so they charge a premium...😬

Same here 🤷

Honestly, I think the easiest way to handle this is to just have the sender open a Revolut account specifically for this one thing—they can verify their card and all that junk, then just send the card details over to the recipient. Whenever they need to, they can just top up the account, and the recipient can hit up any ATM to grab the cash... assuming, of course, that we're operating under the assumption that the recipient actually has access to an ATM. If they go ahead and pull the whole $5,000 at once, they’re gonna get hit with $22. But if they play it smart and take out small amounts bit by bit, they won't pay a dime 🤷

Steven Evans97 said:You see, a Chime card has to be linked to a bank account; there’s just no way around it. But what if the person you're sending money to doesn't have an account at all? They've only got their passport or ID handy.

Well, actually—no. I mean, I'm sure ironcyclist58 can explain this way better and more accurately than I can, but when you set up a Chime account (assuming the recipient has a smartphone? they really need one for this), you're basically opening an account in England, which then links to that Mastercard you get in the mail. Chime doesn't know a thing about my US bank account—honestly, it didn't even care about it until I started moving money into it 🤷

If the person receiving the money doesn't have a smartphone, the sender (or anyone else, really) can just open the Chime account themselves... then they can just hand the card and the PIN over to the recipient so they can grab some cash at a local ATM.

(Look, there isn't going to be some perfect, dirt-cheap solution to your problem... you're probably gonna have to make some compromises)

2%

👏

I figured you'd be the one to ask 👍

So, if "on time" means, say, once every three months, you could basically move the whole amount without hitting any fees during that window. But if we're talking monthly... you get 1700 free, then that 3300 gets hit with a 2% fee—$22.

Honestly, I don't think you can find anything cheaper than that 🤷

With a Chime card, you can actually hit up an ATM to grab cash... there's usually a limit on how much you can pull out for free (I think it's around $200 a month?), and after that, they start hitting you with fees—not totally sure what the exact amount is though 🤷

But yeah, at the end of the day, the recipient really needs a Chime card too, at least for that 🤷

George Cook54 said:Hmm, alright then. So, what’s the final verdict? I'm still totally on the fence about this one...🙂

So you're spending money that you actually earned—or maybe just saved up from side hustles or whatever... God, I feel so old even asking this—do 18-year-olds still get an allowance these days? I honestly have no clue... 😢 ...or are you just planning on dipping into your mom's bank account to pay for your friend's gift?

If you’re spending your own damn money, then just spend it. You gotta tell your mom straight up—look, I worked for this, I saved this, it’s my cash, and I want to spend it exactly how I see fit... so just let me be... $133 Look, it’s not like the world is ending here—you’ve gotta be ready to own whatever happens next. If this turns out to be a massive mistake and you end up kicking yourself later... well, that's just part of the deal. You have to live with it. Just tell her straight up that you aren't going to come begging for more cash just because of that gift. And please, just ask her to respect that you made a choice and that you're prepared to deal with the fallout—whether things turn out great or totally suck... 🙂

If you’re gonna spend her damn money... well, then you better be ready to play by her rules... 🤷 You can't exactly force her to hand over that kind of cash for something she isn't on board with—it just doesn't work that way. Honestly... you’re better off just finding another way to make the money yourself, then you can spend it however you want...

I honestly don't get why you're so sketched out by the contrast dye... Are you allergic to it or something?

So, yeah... if something sounds way too good to be true, there's a 100% chance it actually is: just way too good to be true.

Is it a clinical obsession? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Olivia Smith2 said:My doctor was mainly focused on treating the psychosis—he didn't really care about anything else. Until a few months ago, the psychosis was my main concern and I just wanted it gone. It feels okay now, even if the meds make me feel a bit foggy. Luckily, he mentioned I might be one of the lucky ones where it won't recur. I should be tapering off the medication soon. Apparently, psychotherapy isn't always recommended for those who have experienced psychosis.

Most of the time I’m just melancholy—and I still find myself hoping we can find our way back to each other. Our relationship was incredibly intense. I didn't want to waste time, so I dated a few people, but it all felt hollow. Now I'm back to being alone and feeling pretty low. On the flip side, I get hit with waves of rage during the day. I'll feel like grabbing my biggest shoe and stomping on it—but of course, those emotions aren't particularly productive either.

Hope is really the only thing I have left—hope that I can eventually wipe her from my mind. Still, the fact that this is dragging on worries me. A whole year is a long time. I'm genuinely afraid that I haven't developed an obsession, but rather something more permanent. It's completely wrecked my confidence. If only we had broken up under normal circumstances, instead of her just finding a replacement. 😢

Man, you seriously need to find a different psychiatrist. Like, ASAP. Before this guy gets you off your antipsychotics and leaves you to fight this whole thing on your own right when you actually need the support most.

Seriously. Try to track down someone else tomorrow.

The new Chase rebranding—I don’t really get why they’re typing "NEW" in all caps; it’s not like it’s some massive, life-altering shift...

It says version 2.21.29 (293)... like they're actually kidding me... 😬

EDIT:
I honestly don't know what to say about this... just feels like we're circling the drain a bit lately. It’s one thing to deal with minor glitches, but this whole situation? It's getting exhausting—really. I've been staring at my screen for an hour just trying to make sense of the latest changes, and nothing is clicking... none of it. Just wish things would go back to how they were before everything got so complicated... anyway, just my two cents. says:
I'm honestly lost on how to actually activate my mobile wallet even though I got a notification saying I could... I log into my Chase app, go to banking, then cards, and I see all four of them sitting there—my checking, savings, foreign currency account, and my Mastercard—but there’s zero option to "select" anything. It just shows me the details whenever I click on one of them. Any ideas?...

I'm rocking a Mi A2 lite running android 9 btw...

Once you tap on the mobile wallet from the home screen—it should just work... 🤷
