Jason Mendoza said:We’ve got 14 albums up for grabs, yet the threads for last week's picks only have two comments each?

It’s honestly pointless if we're just running a poll without anyone actually saying anything afterward.

I'm finally sitting down today to drop my thoughts on Robert and the rest of the group from two weeks ago—honestly, I haven't even finished listening to everything properly yet! :/

Some people are posting their takes, while others... well, unfortunately, they're staying silent.

I already know exactly who’s going to win the vote the second I saw Pukey’s pick😁

I noticed there hasn't been any mention of them here at all—which is ridiculous because they're such a significant indie band—so I’m trying to fix that injustice by putting forward their most iconic album
Honestly, I think the other albums will eventually find their way into the conversation too since they have some seriously beautiful stuff out there, and this week's lineup is already looking pretty stacked

SatanPanonski said:Look, I'm not saying everything has to be garbage. But let's be real—these threads always turn into some weird competition where everyone tries to flex their knowledge of obscure albums just to prove they’re a "bigger" music expert than the next guy. And half the time, they don't even actually care about the bands! It’s all so tedious and pointless. People spend thousands on vinyl collections, drop the needle once, and suddenly they think they "know" the music? Give me a break...

Personally, I’d much rather have fewer bands and fewer albums if it meant people actually gave a damn about them. You know? The lyrics, the worldview behind the words, the actual soul of the music, the emotion, the way the instruments play off each other... This whole scene feels like it's just about posing. Just pure pretension.

And that pretension? Man, it drives me absolutely insane dealing with these local record store clerks. When you try to actually dig deep into a band's history, they have zero clue—it honestly makes my blood boil. But whatever... why do I even bother? Maybe I'll show up at that Boogaloo fair on October 16th and just lose it on them again. Even the DJs are such a drag. Tommy is constantly playing that Mission and Sisters stuff. Look, he's fine as a person—he's a decent guy—but as a DJ? He's boring as hell, man. I've known him since we were kids... way back...

And just like that, the parachute failed 😁

Who are you to decide what someone else listens to or what kind of music they love? How do you even dare to claim you know whether a certain track will hit me emotionally or not? ☕

Are you seriously trying to tell me that if someone owns a single record, they have to listen to it at least 100 times just to earn the right to own it?

Some nasty bug has me totally sidelined right now—so I'm gonna hold off on dropping Screamadelica until I'm actually back on my feet 😢

I think I actually went and screwed everything up—I honestly can’t believe it 🤣

Those late-night hours just get the better of you, and I clearly let them win 😵

edit: wait, scratch that, looks like I didn't actually mess it all up after all 🎉

Man, I wish I could agree with you, but honestly? This week is just brutal.

Some pretty interesting suggestions here, though Bank of America 👍 is also in the mix, along with 👍 Aphex Twin 👍

There was one anniversary pick—I think someone might have brought it up a while back 🤔

Dennis Hall41 said:I’m actually really itching to get a debate going about Currents—it’s honestly rare for me to get this hyped over an album of the week. I’ve got some mixed feelings here, sure, but overall? It’s more than just good. We're talking studio perfection, almost hitting that legendary tier of stuff Steely Dan used to pull off.

Go take this fight somewhere else, Fasse—get outta here! 🍿

I honestly thought Currents wouldn't make the cut, but now I find myself needing to start a thread about it 🤣

I'll try to get the thread up tomorrow 🙂

The second I saw let 3, I just knew—honestly, nobody else even stands a chance against them

I’ve always had this slight, nagging antipathy toward Homme—not that I'm surprised by this whole massive frenzy surrounding him, though. Look, Queens of the Stone Age isn't bad music or anything, it's just that I've never really done a deep dive into them... they definitely don't hit quite like the Foo Fighters do for me, anyway.

OT:
I was actually debating which albums to tackle over the next few weeks—honestly, there's one artist I'm still undecided on—so I figured I'd just start with something I've been playing on repeat lately. And honestly, nobody has even mentioned how much my memory is failing me, or talked about what might be one of the absolute best multi-instrumentalists out there right now.

Honestly, I was wondering the same thing.

I guess Lana finally found her voice and snagged Album of the Week 🎉

Dennis Hall41 said:I’ve been diving back into Lorde’s discography lately—really digging in this time—and I’ve gotta say, I think I overhyped her before. Don't get me wrong, she’s got a few gems in there, but maybe that’s just because in today's sea of mindless pop sludge, anything halfway decent feels like a masterpiece? Plus, there’s something refreshing about a female artist who isn't wrapped up in the usual modern nonsense—that whole vibe of being hyper-infantile, selfish, or just plain stuck-up. She actually seems like someone who wouldn't be embarrassed to grab a beer, let alone pick up a shovel if things got real, which is something I’ve always respected.

But honestly? Both her and Lana Del Rey—who, let's be real, are actual bright spots in the absolute gutter that is the Billboard charts—still feel like they wouldn't have even been served coffee by guys like Lennon, Dylan, or Jagger forty or fifty years ago. They definitely wouldn't be out there signing massive prestige deals back then.

Let’s be real though, both Lana and Lorde are top-tier pop, right along with Jessie Ware. It’s just a shame Jessie always seems to be stuck in Dua Lipa’s shadow, even though her dance tracks are way better.

And look, fifty years ago, the standards were just different. The music was different. We didn't have all this autotune and constant sampling everywhere—not like the production we see now.

Steven Newman50 said:Do you really think Lana would ever end up with a girlfriend who’d actually... you know? I mean, honestly—is that even on the radar? It feels like one of those things where you just stare at the ceiling for twenty minutes wondering if anyone actually sees what's happening right in front of them. Is she even looking? Or is she too busy being herself to notice someone standing there? Just a thought. A weird, rambling thought, sure—but seriously, does it even make sense? She treated me like absolute garbage—just total trash. I mean, seriously, how do you even function as a human being when you act like that? It’s honestly pathetic.? 😁

And you can never really tell what's going on with Lane—it’s always such a complete guessing game, isn't it? 🤣 I mean, let's be real here—it turns out older guys are definitely her type.

Honestly, that’s easily one of my favorite things about Norman—and man, that song was the absolute anthem of that summer.
Album of the week in Music ·
I was thinking about Norman as her absolute peak—honestly, I’d put it on a totally different level than Born To Die because that record holds such a specific place in my heart

Wait, is Doin' Time a cover? I had no clue

Lorde is also an Antonoff production; let’s be real, without him, we wouldn't even have this new Lana era, which is exactly why their sounds are so intertwined
I gotta admit, I'm feeling pretty meh about the new Lorde stuff—it's just... I don't know, it's not hitting right. Melodrama is still her definitive masterpiece, hands down
Album of the week in Music ·
Kraftwerk absolutely earned it—honestly, there’s no music scene today without them, not even Rammstein

I feel for Lana, really, but let’s be real: Ultraviolence isn't her absolute peak. She might actually find more success pivoting to a different sound on her next record
I'm not exactly a superfan like everyone else in my circle, but I'll give credit where it's due—the woman can seriously deliver some hits when she wants to

That was a hell of an opening, gotta admit👍
Yo La Tengo in Music ·
They’ve got that whole The Velvet Underground aesthetic going on—it’s such a killer connection, honestly.

What I love most about them is how they fuse that raw, gritty noise with these dreamy, psychedelic layers... it’s exactly what The Velvets used to pull off.
Album of the week in Music ·
So, here’s my little anniversary pitch—kind of a throwback since the 20th anniversary of the album passed a while ago, but we’re also hitting the 20th anniversary of the US version soon. Honestly? I’m not nearly as big a fan of the US cut as I am of the original UK release. The whole reason there are two versions comes down to September 11th—they had to strip out one specific track for the American market because it was deemed too controversial for us. Regardless of that tweak, this record basically defined an entire genre... whether you absolutely love it or can't stand it, there's no denying its impact.

Resurrecting this dead thread

No real reason for doing this—other than just needing to state for the record that this is easily one of the most layered bands out there. Honestly, how many groups can actually compete with the sheer depth of their instrumentation? Not many, I'll tell you that much.

And because of that, they’re obviously way more underrated than they have any right to be.
