I totally agree—there are way too many albums dropping for such a tiny window of time

I don't know how you guys manage, honestly, but I need to spin the same record at least three times before it actually clicks—you know? Like, I have to really live with it to fully grasp what’s going on. A lot of great stuff just doesn't hit right on the first listen, so it feels pretty stupid to just toss an album aside because it didn't blow your mind immediately, doesn't it?

In fact, most of the absolute masterpieces don't even register on the first pass—and that’s exactly why they’re so damn interesting in the first place.

I can already spot at least five or six suggestions here just by looking—without even hitting play 😁

As for the rest? I’ll probably recognize them once I actually give them a listen

It’s just that the suggestions are getting even more obvious again—kind of less

it's hard to change someone's taste 😁

redbear12 I can't even begin to tell you how much this gets under my skin—honestly, where do I even start? It’s like, do people just not listen anymore? Or maybe they just don't care? Because at this point, I'm starting to think it's the latter. It's frustrating, plain and simple. You try to make a point, you lay it all out there, and then... nothing. Just silence or, worse, complete misunderstanding. Why is that? Is it just me, or is everyone getting more stubborn by the day? It feels like we're all just shouting into a void sometimes, and frankly, it's exhausting. I mean, seriously, how much more of this am I supposed to take before it's just ridiculous? It really makes you wonder what happened to actually having a conversation. Anyway, I'm just venting now—sorry, I know, I know—but someone had to say it.
Wait, I don't get it. Am I supposed to just slide into Amanda Robinson4's DMs right now and ask which album they want to suggest, just so they can write a whole new post here on this thread??? 😕🤔

It looks like you’re gonna need it—even if nobody actually laid out a rule saying so.

Look, we really ought to avoid making the mistake of voting for the person making the suggestion instead of actually voting on the album itself. Seriously, why would we even go there? 🤷

EDIT: Just realized Amanda Robinson4 mentioned last week that we should be sending those over to him.

Gerald Jackson48 said:Honestly, I’m feeling pretty decent about Stanley—I mean, the guy is an absolute jazz piano legend, so two votes for him if you ask me. Even if one of those votes sounds like it came from some weird bot clone, it’s still not half bad when you actually stop to think about it. 😎

There is no way they're pulling this stunt again

Look, if you guys care about this album, go ahead and suggest it for the next few weeks—nobody's stopping you. 😳

I’m actually feeling pretty good about the Animalec crowd—mostly because they drive everyone around me absolutely insane

I love System, and honestly, this is their best album without a doubt. Everything else they've done just feels like garbage compared to this.

Toxicity is actually way better

I really thought I’d be voting for this album, but after not touching it for over 10 years, I can't bring myself to give it any points—I just can't stomach metal anymore. 😢I used to be obsessed with Korn, but now? I have to turn it off halfway through every single track. 🤷

For me, metal is like that one expensive perfume you absolutely loved for years, until one day it just starts smelling revolting and you realize you can never go back to wearing it again.
Gerald Jackson48 said:Have a good week. It’s a bit surprising to see such a low score for Reich, considering it’s an incredible piece of work that even inspired Aphex Twin during his SAW 2 phase, so I was expecting something much stronger.

Animal Collective was right on the edge for my vote, but whatever—if nothing else, they did a great job using the SP-404 sampler, which people usually dismiss as a toy until someone actually makes something serious with it. Kind of like how everyone treats the Microkorg before all the "cool" kids start using them everywhere.

Thanks for explaining why they sound so childish.

Golden Boy sounds like a mix of Daft punk and Aira to me, pretty interesting stuff. 👍

Unfortunately, Raich just doesn't hold my attention, unlike say, Goldfrapp.
I actually had to Google Goldfrapp's vocals because they sounded masculine to me, though I was almost certain it was a woman—and I was right! 🤣 It reminds me of that Gonzalez guy from Cigarettes after Sex, just with a wider range.
Goldfrapp is actually a total discovery for me, wow. 😍

Chris Isaak definitely deserves it. 👍

The band got my vote even though I think the album is way too long and full of filler; I still dig their sound.

Jason Mendoza said:If it weren't for that pub trivia night, I honestly would have never even heard of quietbison86. Man, you just never stop learning things, do you? 👍

A total mess—basically the "it" girl of the sixties. 😁

She went ahead and covered both Clapton and Harrison. 😉
Dennis Hall41 said:I was spinning that MPP record again yesterday, and man, I honestly can't remember the last time an album felt this much like a massive letdown upon second listen. It’s just this mindless electro-pop—it sounds like someone tried to "modernize" the Beach Boys for a bunch of soulless millennials following every woke trend under the sun, and in the process, they stripped away any actual melody or life from the music. Just total emptiness.

Hey Fassa, that was an insult not just to Animals, but to the entire Reddit community.

Honestly, that's my absolute favorite Animals album—but man, things get pretty dark there, just like the rest of that obscure Baltimore scena.

cosmiccobra2 said:I absolutely adore my Girls!!!

But yeah, Animal Collective definitely has that "love it or hate it" vibe—it’s polarizing as hell. For me, only Strawberry jam in The Flowers and MPP really hit the mark; the rest of their stuff just didn't grab me.

Sung Tongs is actually a pretty interesting listen, though let's be real, it isn't exactly catchy pop like MPP or Strawberry jam in The Flowers.
Personally, I think In The Flowers is one of those all-time great openers—it's got that signature sound right from the jump.

Their latest single really caught my ear, and honestly, I am dying to hear the new album. 🍿

I can already tell I’m going to be voting for a whole lot of things 😁

I'm kicking this week off with an artist and an album that are... let's just say polarizing. There is absolutely no middle ground here—you either live for it or you just can't wrap your head around it. No in-between. 😁

So, what kind of killer albums are we vibing with this week?

Charles Ramos4 said:Look, I gave him my vote even though, let's be real, he was already way out of the running for the win by then...

Edit: can someone explain what they meant by the bolded part? 🙂

I'm talking about hitting those high notes—just shredding, absolutely crushing it.

Basically, singers like Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and stuff like that—or maybe a rapper like Cardi B.

Lisa Davis46 said:Honestly, I just listened to it for the first time, and man, I’m torn—the music itself blew me away, but the actual content? It drove me absolutely insane. When you have a singer-songwriter this highly regarded, having to sit through these incredibly sappy, over-the-top melodramatic lyrics just hits a nerve with me. I don't know why... and besides the fact that female vocals rarely do it for me, that's pretty much my biggest gripe with most modern female artists and singers. What am I supposed to do, huh? 😢 🙂

Trish Keenan was the absolute gold standard for female vocals—none of that forced affectation or constantly chasing high notes that people stereotypically associate with women's singing. I'm guessing that's exactly what's bugging you about the others

Charles Ramos4 said:I actually liked this album. 👍

Then why didn't you guys vote for Candy Claws if you liked it so much?

Sure, they still wouldn't have won, but they would've at least pulled in a decent amount of votes.
Plus, the cover art is one of the most impressive things I've seen, and it fits that dreamy sound perfectly.

I don't get why everyone's judging based solely on the comment section here

If you've ever actually picked up the Fear Street Trilogy, then in my opinion, the movie is definitely worth a watch.

Look, I’m just gonna stay in my own lane here and throw this out there—whatever, let it land or don't—but I've been spinning this record non-stop lately. Honestly? There’s something about this claustrophobic vibe that just hits different for me. It's perfect. 😍

Hey there! What's up? Hey, EBubbyB! 🙂Ugh, I really need to step up my game and actually participate in the discussions about the Eurovision theme song. 😁

I say, I’m totally on board with the suggestion to get those votes in by Saturday—let’s just make sure we actually get through everything, or at least most of it, before then! 😁

Mark Cruz15 said:Look, our taste is obviously better—obviously—but hey, sometimes there are actually decent suggestions out there from other people. Personally? I’d love it if they didn't push the hipster stuff quite so hard, though it’s not the end of the world. I don't know what our secret ingredient is... maybe it's because we've all been with a man? Come on, Crow89, weigh in here. ☕

I feel terrible saying this, but honestly, those obnoxious Reddit hipsters are what I end up listening to most often. 😁

Every now and then, some other stuff catches my ear and I try to branch out, but I always end up circling right back to the hipster scene. 😂

R. L. Stine's Fear Street Trilogy (2021) in Movies ·
A total brain-melt trilogy to binge during the summer months
I powered through all three in just three days—one per day, naturally

The first one is definitely the winner. The rest sort of lost their way once the plot got overstuffed... especially that second part, which felt like it was dragging forever with all those pointless scenes in that cabin

The soundtrack? Absolutely phenomenal. And since this whole thing is aimed at Zoomers, I actually dig the idea of them being introduced to some legit music
It totally rides that Stranger Things wave—honestly, the whole trilogy gives off massive Stranger Things vibes

Henry Campbell5 said:It should be Album of the Month. People suggest stuff for a week, vote for a week, then spend two weeks debating. That way, people would actually *listen* to the music instead of just clicking buttons—then we’d actually have something real to talk about! And honestly, why wouldn't someone just start their own thread for their suggestion if they’re that hyped about it? If you aren't passionate, why even bother proposing it? Maybe throw in a quick little review when you suggest it? We could spend half the month dissecting the picks and the other half tearing into the winner while picking up a bunch of cool facts along the way.

I'm totally with you on this—I support it 100% because it would force everyone to actually engage with the music more deeply.

Or maybe just a week to listen, to keep it from being too extreme. I mean, you can definitely get through an album in a week.

I usually end up starting a thread for Beach House whenever they drop something new, mostly because they aren't even on the standard dream pop/shoegaze playlists, which is wild to me since they're basically the face of the genre alongside Cocteau Twins.
It doesn't surprise me that they haven't blown up, though—even Loveless didn't hit mainstream heights, and let's be real, the US indie scene only has like two bands doing that kind of thing, so maybe Americans just don't vibe with that specific sound.🤷
The only silver lining is that Tame Impala made it big, even though they play in that same relatively niche sphere that most American listeners tend to overlook, especially the newer stuff.

As for Mitchell, I wasn't shocked at all. When I saw her as a suggestion, I knew it was going to be a dead heat with OK Computer.
I feel bad for OK Computer for losing out, but there’s already a whole separate discussion for Radiohead anyway, so it's not like we don't talk about them here.

quietbison86 said:I'm dropping my thoughts on Robert and the others from a couple weeks ago today—honestly, I haven't even finished listening to everything properly yet :/

Some people have their takes ready, while others—sadly—don't

I can't edit my comment anymore, so I'll just quote myself

It feels totally pointless to weigh in on stuff I didn't even vote for—clearly, I didn't want those albums to end up being the "Albums of the Week," right?
I'll get to the rest of them more or less soon

I've decided to be way more selective about which albums actually get my vote this time around. Why? Because last week I totally overreached with my picks since I didn't have enough time to actually listen to everything. I mean, I'm sure most of you know how that goes—you end up picking all the obvious classics just because you couldn't squeeze in every single suggestion within a 24-hour window. It happens!

Let's be real: trying to listen to 14 albums in such a short span is impossible, and it's pretty obvious who's going to take the win this week based on that alone
Even if you're just being "selective," trying to tackle 14 albums is still a massive challenge
