I'm terrified of failing my pets and plants! in Psychology & Therapy ·
Jason Reyes9 said:Here’s the deal with my dilemma: I absolutely adore animals and plants. I love anything that breathes, grows, blooms, or just moves through life. But I have this deep-seated fear. It’s specific. I worry that because animals and plants are such vulnerable, helpless creatures, I might somehow misread their needs. What if I fail them? The thought of them dying or suffering right in front of me because I didn't realize what they needed... that's my worst nightmare.😢

So, what am I actually dealing with here? How can I move past this anxiety?

Honestly, this is a textbook psychology thing called Adored Female Syndrome (AFS).
I'm guessing you're probably super gorgeous, charming, and used to guys constantly chasing you. Like, maybe you let them pamper you and adore you, but at the same time, they try to hold on way too tight—not really seeing your need for space—so you end up feeling trapped, like you're in a gilded cage...
When you look at that pretty flower on your patio or that little bird in its cage, you're actually seeing a reflection of yourself. They're tied to you and can't leave. On the surface, it looks like they have everything, but you know better (putting yourself in the shoes of those men who worshipped you), and you realize you might be overlooking their underlying need for freedom.
The only real fix is to stop projecting all your own anxieties and desires onto your plants and pets. You gotta learn to trust that they actually *want* to be with you and that they're happy. Try leaving a potted plant outside your front door overnight—if it's still there in the morning, then you'll know it stayed because it chose to!
Good luck! 👍

Man, I gotta disagree on that one—Lethal Weapon 4 is actually a blast! ☕

It's in the Archives. Honestly, that PDF is such pure insanity that they had to lock down every single thread.

Thanks.

It doesn't even matter—those hardcore forum users would just log out and see everything anyway.

Those guys are sneaky as hell.

Is posting on this forum just a total illusion at this point? I mean, I wouldn't even mind if the posts were just drying up...

Haha. And here I was thinking you were actually being smart for once.
My bad—screw me.

Anyway, it’s cool though. Seriously, props to you for staying active and actually putting in the work.
Most people see hate speech or whatever online and they're just too damn lazy to even bother replying, let alone doing anything meaningful (me included, honestly). If it weren't for those slackers, the world would be way worse than it already is—real change only happens because people actually step up. It's been like that throughout history, too. These lazy types just coast along on the efforts of others, thinking, "Eh, someone else will deal with it..."

Total tangent, I know! I didn't even click on the actual thread I meant to, so I'm gonna bounce. 👋

Honestly, I think steelskipper5 is playing it a bit too smart. Whatever.

Look, you gotta take everything on Reddit as a total joke unless someone proves otherwise.

You're tripping. 🙄

I take every single thread on MK seriously—like, full-on deep dive mode.
I’ll read the OP, scan through all the replies, and then just sit there and really chew on the problem and potential fixes.
Actually, I write my whole response out by hand first—using a blue or green pen on some old-school legal pad—and then I type it up in Word. Once I've tweaked it, I copy, polish, and hit send.

But even with all that effort, my posts sometimes get nuked like I’m just some random troll. It honestly hurts my feelings—I'll be over here crying into my pillow half the time!

I mean, there's really no point in crying foul about moderator bias if we don't even know who's behind the curtain. 🤷

I’d love to jump in and give you a piece of my mind right now, but I bet someone else 😁

Man, I really miss pantera. 😢

And it’s not just me—even Grunf is feeling it.
He was totally head over heels for her, and honestly, once she left, he just withered away. All he’s got left are those curves... he used to flex them on his profile pic constantly, then even switched it up to her backside... he went absolutely nuts! Now he’s just out there standing in the rain, moping around...

Pantera, come back home!!!

Yeah, I know things were a bit more normal back then, even if this one is trash too🤣

Anyway, let's cut the off-topic stuff, just give us the facepalm and everything will be fine😁

Man, this one's a total lost cause—it's like trying to deal with an ExxonMobil executive who just won't budge, so I can't exactly whip up those quick, snappy, pissed-off posts I usually do!

For example—

granitefox16 said:I'm all in. Posting without a facepalm is basically impossible now, especially since you guys brought back those ancient emojis a year ago. Here's the lineup:

😠- the absolute worst emoji ever made. Looks like someone gave Dalí some heavy drugs and he sketched this hideous freak

🙄 - the old one was way better. It actually looked like you were quoting a post, but this one is just trash

👍 and 👎 - I swear, if there's anything I hate more than these two idiots, it's these pathetic emojis

😳 - not even gonna waste my breath on this clown. What is this even supposed to represent? What did we even have before this crap?

😛 - and look at this degenerate letter-licker. Does anyone actually use this moron?

🙂- What am I even supposed to do with this?

Either put the tooth back on the first page of the menu or just shorten the code. I'm too tired to keep typing, and there's plenty of room. Just swap out this 😳 degenerate with the tooth

🤣

Just give us the facepalm🙂

Facts. It's super creepy—probably because those four front teeth are all the exact same size, whereas normally the centrals pop out a bit more than the laterals.

I say we ditch him for this much easier-on-the-eyes 😠 smiley I put in the subject line instead.

edit: oh yeah... total facepalm moment, even if I won't actually use it myself

Mark Torres14 said:I was reaching out my hand toward this massive yellow moon rising over the silver ocean when, suddenly, my rod bent almost all the way to the water, twitching like crazy. "A fish," I thought to myself, gripping the handle tight—and a big one at that. Slowly, pulling against the fish while it pulled back against me and my boat, we drew closer to our inevitable encounter, and just as I was about to haul it in, a giant clock leaps out of the sea and starts ringing, ringing, and ringing...

I snap my eyes open, jump out of bed, kill the alarm on my iPhone 3G, and check my gold Christian Dior. "Seven AM—gotta get to work." With heavy legs and hands that still ache from hauling in that massive fish, I brush my teeth with my electric toothbrush, shave with my electric razor, get dressed, and splash on some cologne—carefully, so I don't stain the shirt. I look out the window—sunny—so I decide to bike instead of drive, mentally running through my to-do list and the meetings I have lined up. I shove something into my bag, then remember last minute that I’ve got a meeting with some guy from a travel agency, so I'll need my laptop to show off his vacation rentals.

Actually, ever since I bought this little laptop at AT&T, it's been the family favorite. Even though we have another laptop and two desktops, this one is somehow the star. I toss the "lap" into my backpack, throw on a beanie (still cold out), crank up my Gepida, and head out toward the bridge in downtown Chicago.

I'm thinking. Once I get to work and knock down my mandatory sugar-free morning macchiato, I'll fire up the office computer, catch up on the last few days, scan the news, hop on the forum to see if anyone replied to my theories, and... get to work. Of course, the radio will be blasting in the background, cutting in with news every hour, so by the 3:00 PM update, it's just mindless white noise. Then, I head home on my bike, eat lunch, sit down at the big computer, check my mail, and open the forum again. In the background, the Soniyev TV is playing one of its endless reruns interrupted by commercials, while from the other room, I hear some supposedly "pleasant" but actually horrific music my daughter is headbanging to. We've got five TVs in this place—one in every room—and over 700 channels (who even understands digital cable nowadays?). Honestly, I don't even watch TV.

I'm beat. I turn down the TV, crank up my wat line and speakers (just something light), lie on the couch, and close my eyes. I can't sleep, though—so I turn to my library of over 1,300 books, grab one, and start reading. Five minutes later, I have no idea what I just read or even which book I'm holding. My mind won't shut up. All the bills I have to pay, how am I going to afford everything since my daughter starts college this year, when am I going to prune the trees, what needs painting at the lake house, I need to buy my younger daughter a professional digital camera—but where's the money coming from? My son has to take those certification exams that cost an arm and a leg, and cash is tight right now. I haven't even renewed the hosting for my website... etcetera, etcetera.

I get up because my wife walks in, and we start talking about her issues at work. The phone rings (I have two, and I never know where they are—the house is huge and the kids leave the receivers in impossible spots), and friends call to say they're coming over. I sprint to the store for drinks, there's no bread, my wife is yelling—"get coffee too!"—and me, cursing, I pull my shoes back on, hit the ATM, run to the grocery store, and then help her prep dinner and get ready for the guests.
The best friends showed up, lots of laughing, joking around, gossiping about people who aren't there, and by eleven o'clock, I feel absolutely exhausted.
I’m lying here, and my wife tells me I crashed out like a freight train. Meanwhile, I’m stuck trying to get back into this dream where there’s a massive yellow moon and a fish that just won't surface.

Here’s the question:

Is there an absolute breaking point for the pace of life—a limit to how fast a person can go biologically and psychologically before they snap? And what actually happens when you cross that line?
The thing is, everyone around me thinks I live at a snail's pace. I don't rush, I take it easy, and honestly, most people are pretty jealous of that.

Does speed really count if you're just grinding through stuff you hate? Like, you can spend an entire week on vacation in NYC hitting every single landmark from sunrise to sunset and you wouldn't even call that "fast living." If we're being real—I honestly don't think we live any faster than our ancestors did back when they were working farm chores from 5 AM until 10 PM every single day.
So, the ultimate measure of how fast life is... it probably just comes down to how much crap you're willing to put up with.

rustymaker5 said:The reality is that everything can be rationalized if you look at it long enough. And the fact remains that in the future, people will look back at our era and call it the "good old days" too.🙂

As for why people don't just flip the switch—well, let me tell you, some people actually do. It really just comes down to the individual, I suppose. I still remember those times before everyone had a smartphone in their pocket, back when if you had an emergency, you had to sprint to a payphone on a street corner. There used to be lines, and I remember being so worked up I almost got into a physical altercation with some guy who wouldn't let me cut ahead... Now, everyone has a cell phone. And honestly, that's great. But it isn't great when we refuse to turn them off because we feel this crushing obligation to be reachable by everyone, all the time. So then we end up miserable because we feel like we have zero privacy left.🤷 But you've got to shut it off; you have to be the one in control of the device, rather than letting the device rule over you.
With all these high-tech assistants at our fingertips, any person with half a brain should take that extra free time they've gained and use it for themselves—for self-improvement, for reading, for learning something new, for a hobby, for spiritual growth, or just for pure personal enjoyment. Those who choose to become slaves to their technology... well, they would have found something else to be enslaved to, even without all this technological progress...

Ugh, I can't! I tried that once. Everyone expects you to be "on" all the time. Honestly, if we didn't have phones, we wouldn't even bother expecting anyone to pick up.
It's basically impossible to go dark without looking like a total weirdo😬—and trust me, being the weirdo in the group comes with its own set of headaches...
Awesome, thanks!

What about if it's damaged?

Is a merchant actually required to take a torn bill?
Someone please set me straight if I've got this wrong:
The $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, and $67 bills printed on October 31, 1993, are all invalid—but the $500 and $333 ones from that same date are still good to go.
So, basically, unless they have this specific stamp, everything except the $500 and $333 is junk:

Am I on the right track here?

Also, I’m curious about how beat up a bill can actually be. From what I've heard, even if a note is totally shredded—like, if you patched the whole thing back together with Scotch tape—it's still worth something. But if even a tiny little piece is missing... then it's game over.
