They've picked up plenty of awards at festivals...
It seems their entire body of work revolves around the same themes: the plight of the working class, childhood, broken homes, and those living on the fringes of society.
I suppose you could draw parallels to Ken Loach, given his similar focus on the struggles of the oppressed and disenfranchised...

As for more recent work, there's a devastating drama starring Marion Cotillard, Two Days, One Night...

It feels a bit trashy... though there's a fleeting moment where it leans toward art house...
But the director is such a stylist, Valerian Borovczyk...

Watching them can be difficult; they are periodically nauseating, even stomach-turning.
They truly provoke a sense of visceral disgust...
The figure of Christ lingers through his work, manifesting as both victim and catalyst.
His work isn't for everyone, but it certainly holds a unique place in cinematic history.
He didn't make many films, mostly because he refused to compromise on his vision.
That lack of flexibility made securing funding incredibly difficult...
It was a struggle to convince any producer to back him.

I don't have many close friends around lately, though; most of them have scattered across the country... We touch base occasionally via Skype or WhatsApp, I suppose...

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, I've seen plenty of local examples of total dysfunction. Parents drowning in substance abuse, constant aggression, endless fighting... it’s all just toxic behavior. It leaves scars that last a lifetime. On the flip side, I know people who turned out remarkably well despite coming from chaotic homes where nothing good was happening on a daily basis. I wouldn't wish that upbringing on anyone. Not everyone is cut out for parenthood...
Being too lenient is just as problematic as being too strict... I can't exactly be his peer if I'm playing the role of a father. But kids are essentially mirrors; they soak up everything from their parents, both the virtues and the vices. They’re our clones, shaped by genetics, the neighborhood, and school... You don't need an endless amount of free time, nor should you drown them in obligations. It's about finding that middle ground. And open communication is key—nothing should be off-limits. Honestly, kids often know more than we adults give them credit for; they catch you off guard. They are little people with distinct personalities, just lacking life experience... They deserve respect.
The biggest mistake modern parents make is simply not spending enough actual time with their kids. Real time. Playing, going on outings, just being present... I get it, everyone is slammed with work and life is hectic, but children need time, attention, and affection. As a parent, you have to be fully engaged. It’s a sacrifice of your own free time, but being a parent is a 24/7 commitment... I'm not speaking from a place of pure theory; I have a teenager myself. But we can't just constantly push them toward a smartphone, a PlayStation, or leave them with a sitter or a nanny... We know it's the easiest path—it gives parents a chance to talk and actually rest. Personally, I think things like TikTok (Kicking in nuts) lead to these kinds of consequences, and this kind of nonsense is dangerous... It poses all sorts of challenges to young, developing brains... other apps are equally harmful, not to mention the easy access to pornography.
...It creates a completely warped view of love and intimacy. Critical thinking doesn't develop when they just swallow whatever content is served to them. They soak it up like sponges, which even distorts how they speak. I'm not strictly against technology, but there have to be boundaries... letting a two or three-year-old hold a smartphone is a definite no-go...
