Wait, you fried your GPU because of the power supply and you're actually thinking about plugging a new card into that same unit? Unbelievable...
First off, I'd swap out the PSU. It's clearly dead, so I don't see how much sense it makes to hook up a new graphics card to it.
Also, you're running low on RAM and that processor is pretty weak. Even if you did grab a better GPU, your CPU probably wouldn't be able to keep up anyway.
With that $200, I'd look for a used graphics card and a new power supply, though honestly, just buying everything brand new might save you some headaches in the long run... plus, you can always reuse your old case, hard drive, and optical drive (assuming the HDD and drive use SATA).
I’m not even going to touch the subject of stripping slots or causing damage... if that actually happens, I'll just send the motherboard back for a warranty claim and call it a day.
You really think we don't know what we're talking about?
That PSU is definitely a step down from the one we suggested. Why? It’s basically the bottom-of-the-barrel option from Corsair, so you're getting cheap capacitors. I'd love to know what the actual 12V rail output is on that thing...
GPU performance is pretty straightforward. The 760 is way faster than the 7770, and by a good margin, too. If you don't trust the benchmarks, maybe just borrow a 760 from someone and see for yourself...
Planning on gaming? If so, the GTX 1050 is probably too weak. A GTX 1060 would be a better bet, though I guess an HD 7750 (with GDDR5) or an HD 7770 might be a decent alternative.
So, you looking for a new GPU because this one can't handle anything? Or maybe you just have too much extra cash lying around after Valentine's Day since you don't have a girlfriend? 😁
Also, that logic applies to older Athlon chips. The Athlon II x4 740/750 K is a newer processor based on the Trinity architecture, so while it might be a tiny bit slower than a Phenom, it's newer, runs cooler, and draws less power. Plus, it's cheaper, and you can find cheaper motherboards for it too.
What's the price on that GPU? I have a feeling it's only pricier than the others because it's an ASUS.
A 600W PSU is overkill. That setup will probably pull maybe 200W.
A 3x2GB kit? No. Those kits are meant for platforms that actually support triple channel. You need dual channel, though if you're looking at 4GB, it might be better to just grab a single stick to make future upgrades easier.
And finally, Thermaltake cases don't really give you much bang for your buck.
If you can, steer clear of those links because they're overpriced. Your best bet is probably the FM2 AMD Athlon II x4 740 paired with that ASRock FM2A75 PRO4-M motherboard you mentioned on the last page.
As for the GPU, maybe try to stretch your budget for a 7850 if possible; it's actually stronger than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650.
@Larry Bailey94/">@@Larry Bailey94, looks like they were right—that CPU isn't going to work with that motherboard (it's pretty low-end), and honestly, that power supply is kind of weak too. You'd be better off building it differently. Where are you shopping, and what's your budget looking like?
