stormybadger8 said:It isn't just a puncture. That tire basically disintegrated after five laps because of massive degradation and a lock-up during braking... which then caused the puncture. If it's considered "normal" for a tire to explode after five laps just from heavy braking, then we're all screwed.
There's a tiny little difference between driving a fuel-heavy car on worn-out softs versus running a light car on fresh softs. Besides that, there's zero chance someone pits in the first five laps and manages to come back out ahead of the leaders on mediums (let alone fighting for points). You can, however, pit in the last two or three laps and potentially snatch P1.
The only thing that ruins a strategy on mediums is a rainy start or an SC popping up right before they're scheduled to pit. But if there's no SC during the race, the guys up front on softs have almost no shot at a podium. The only real way one of the leaders grabs the win is if the teams orchestrate a teammate's pit stop perfectly to trigger an SC right when it suits them—ideally right after they've finished their final stop.
Let's make a bet—if someone starting on mediums pulls off a win, I'm ghosting this forum until the next race. But if someone on softs takes it, you're gone?
If an SC or rain messes with the results, the bet is off.

It’s gonna be that same old shuffle between Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull—with Haas and maybe Mercedes popping in and out of the mix every now and then.
The only thing tripping me up is de la Rosa saying the simulator is the problem, rather than the actual car.
Well, maybe the car is actually fine... 🤷
Only 35 days left until we find out if I'm crazy or right. ☕
stormybadger8 said:Are you kidding me? Spent the entire first day on inters?🤣 If that's actually true, then the difference compared to that first day makes sense... but still, we’ve got to look at day two...
Nah, man, just the first couple of laps—that's what Jason Campbell70 was saying.🙂
stormybadger8 said:Not me.😁 For him, it’s basically business as usual. There's no way you spend two days hovering around a 1:20 and then suddenly find another massive chunk of time to hit a 1:17.800.😉 What kind of magic tires would you even need to shave over two seconds off a single lap?🤷 The only thing that makes sense is if he was stuck on intermediates or wets during those first two days.
11:04 Looks like we finally got some clarity—that mess Ferrari was dealing with earlier? Turns out it was a busted gearbox. They’re scrambling to swap it out as we speak.
Holy crap—we finally broke the barrier! Our first sub 1m18s lap of the week just dropped, courtesy of Felipe Massa tearing up the track in that Ferrari. He’s absolutely flying with a blistering 1m17.879s.
I mean, I’m pretty sure they didn't even bother with live streams for the pre-season testing last year—certainly not for the stuff happening over in Phoenix—and honestly, I wouldn't bet the house on the other sessions either. 🤷
Nice job breaking down the engine specs. 👍 Just gotta say though—that bit about the radiator isn't quite hitting the mark; they actually tweaked the angle on that thing.
Check out this clip where they point out the differences—you can see the exact spot with the radiator at the 30-second mark.
