Just picture this: everything about the movie stays exactly the same, but instead of being about Asian immigrants, you swap out the leads. Instead of Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, imagine a massive Hollywood power couple like Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks, or maybe Jennifer Connelly and Tom Cruise—honestly, any big-name duo you can think of. Don't even get me started on Mel Gibson in any pairing. I bet critics would absolutely trash it. It’d probably struggle to even hit a 5.0 on IMDb, collect a bunch of Razzies, and there wouldn't be any talk about an Oscar.

The topic has potential. It offers more room to share your own take without feeling forced to agree with the director or what all the big-time critics are saying. Maybe they overlap, maybe they don't.

But the real question is whether people here are actually ready for that. Are folks willing to step outside their own bubbles? Most people just want to hear their own opinions echoed back at them. They won't budge an inch. And I don't mean accepting someone else's view as the absolute truth—I just mean having a normal discussion about it.

Based on my experience, I wouldn't hold my breath for a forum like this to pull it off. But hey, who knows? Maybe this thread takes off and turns into something great, and I'll end up being proven wrong. I'd actually love that.

Look, we don't call it water. We call it the ocean. But honestly, I'm getting pretty tired of those people from the Midwest acting all high and mighty, calling it "water" just so they can act smart when we try to correct them.

By the way, that whole "no matter how much salt is in there, it's all just water" logic came from one of my buddies—another coastal guy—during a family dinner after a very long night of heavy drinking. A total mini-epiphany. 😁
