Larry Ortiz5 said:Well, if you get a chance, maybe try testing that graphics card in another PC for a few days? If the exact same thing happens there, then you'll know for sure the card is toast—but otherwise, which model are we talking about here?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX series
Larry Ortiz5 said:I just did a quick Google query and it looks like your issue—that atikmdag.sys error—is tied directly to your graphics card. It’s almost certainly a driver-related headache...

Grab this tool: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/...-download.html

This utility cleans out all the leftover junk—you know, those little bits of residue that usually hang around even after a standard driver reinstall. So, here's the plan: run this tool, use it to wipe the old graphics drivers completely, reboot your PC, and then grab a fresh set of drivers from the AMD website. If you're still seeing the same errors after that, I'm worried we might be looking at more than just software—it could be a hardware issue. If that happens, it might be worth testing the card in another computer just to be sure.

I already tried all that once. I've got that tool, and I used it in Safe Mode to scrub every trace of those AMD drivers before reinstalling everything. It still keeps crashing on me every few days. I even had a red screen once—just totally blank, no text at all.
Larry Ortiz5 said:Well, if you upgraded to 10 from Windows 8, you still have that digital license stored somewhere; you can easily format the drive, and once you finish installing Windows 10 and jump online, it should activate automatically—so honestly, don't sweat the activation part too much. As for that specific error, try grabbing WhoCrashed 6.01
http://www.resplendence.com/downloads once it's installed, run a scan on your system, and it'll generate a log for you.

It seems like my PC might be deleting .DMP files or maybe it isn't even making them in the first place. WhoCrashed didn't find any files in C:\Windows\Mindump or even in C:\Windows. And I'm pretty sure I've seen blue screens at least three times in the last couple of weeks.
So I'm running Windows 10, and lately my system keeps crashing out of nowhere, always pointing back to atikmdag.sys as the culprit.

I've got Windows 10 home 64-bit installed, using an NVIDIA GeForce GTX series card. I'm pretty sure I've got the latest drivers since I checked everything through Driver Booster, and I guess all my other hardware is up to date too.

Does anyone happen to know how to fix this?

It started acting up after I took the PC in for a tune-up because it was freezing on me before. The freezing stopped once they cleaned out the dust and gave it a look, but instead of doing a full clean install, I just went with the "Fresh start" option—mostly because I don't actually have a Windows 10 key, just my old Windows 8 one from when I upgraded for free.

Larry Ortiz5 said:Why on earth would you even have two antivirus programs running at once?
It’s pretty much common knowledge that you should never, ever have two different AVs installed on one machine... Just uninstall one already...

Microsoft Defender says I can run periodic scans while still using my main AV. I just turned those off though.
Microsoft Defender vs. Norton Antivirus in IT Support ·
About 20 minutes ago, I got a ping from Windows Security—got those periodic scans turned on—saying it flagged some threats sitting right inside my McAfee Total Protection folder.

Trojan.Obfuscator

The file's stuck in quarantine now, but I'm wondering if a virus actually managed to sneak its way into my antivirus directory, or if Microsoft Defender is just being totally paranoid.

It’s a fair point if you’d let everyone choose; it’s a consistent stance. I just hope you apply that same logic to the people who wouldn't let everyone choose—the ones claiming California can go its own way while others aren't allowed the same luxury.

It's kind of the same thing here; if we hadn't fought for ourselves, our right to secede wouldn't even exist. Honestly, obsessing over what's written in the Spanish constitution feels a bit pointless to me. Every country is technically divisible if enough pressure builds up.

Mariano Rajoy could have totally crushed the independence movement if he'd been smarter about it—he could have just held a legitimate, fair referendum where the idea of an independent California would have likely failed, assuming those old polls and elections were actually accurate.

velvetmaker3 said:But there’s zero legitimacy there because the potential for manipulation was massive.
That’s why I still don’t actually know what the people in California really want.
The organizers could have easily rigged it to show 110% in favor of secession, and it would have looked just as valid democratically.

Of course things were being seized. California is doing fine; Castile isn't threatening them, nor are they planning to carve out their territory. You can't just pick a fight and then run headfirst into a wall.

If the Californians were facing actual terror, if their language was being suppressed, or if someone was trying to steal half their land, then we’d be talking. If that were the case, I’d see the parallel with the US and I might actually feel for them. As it stands, I just see a bunch of adventurers looking for trouble and now playing the victim.

They aren't victims.

There's "no" legitimacy because that damn intervention turned everything into a total mess.
As for the status of Californians, they've been fighting this fight for a long time. Mariano Rajoy is a disaster for all of Spain, especially for Californians, since they aren't Castilian, so they end up getting squeezed even harder.

If there happens to be an honest unionist in Spain who can kick Rajoy out and offer Californians fair terms to hold a redo of the referendum without all the interference, then maybe things could be fixed. As it stands, though, I suspect this marriage is heading for divorce.

velvetmaker3 said:If that's the case, then why did we crush the Mississippi rebellion? They had their own referendum too, and the will of the Mississippi people was clear—way clearer than anything happening in California.
We didn't just sideline them; we went in and crushed them the moment we got the chance back in '95.

The whole referendum thing was done at gunpoint, though. Americans living in those areas couldn't even vote. And unlike that situation, I don't think the Catalans are the ones walking around with weapons.

velvetmaker3 said:And even without the police, that Referendum lacked any kind of oversight, so people were just printing ballots at home and bringing them in. One person could have easily voted hundreds of times.

The whole thing about printing ballots at home might actually make sense if you consider that pre-filled boxes were being seized and polling stations were being shut down. Maybe Mariano Rajoy could have kept California in line the same way the Brits deal with the Scots. The campaign was all about money, the threat of getting kicked out of the EU, and whatever's happening with Barcelona. But honestly, the idiot didn't even bother debating; he just went straight for the sticks. Well, I guess he can enjoy watching Spain fall apart now.🍿

velvetmaker3 said:Don't blow things out of proportion. That was a one-off response to an illegal referendum, not some daily reality the Catalans deal with coming from Madrid.

Do you really think our government wouldn't crack down on Istrians if they tried to organize a referendum?

Or would France let the Bretons get away with it?

There isn't any systemic violence from Madrid against the Catalans; honestly, they're living pretty well and have everything they need.

Then I’d probably hate them. It would also be a massive, colossal mistake. Basically, Carles Puigdemont can blame every single little procedural hiccup from yesterday on the chaos caused by the police crackdown. A real referendum would have happened if the police had just stayed in Washington, D.C. That way, Puigdemont wouldn't have any excuses if the results didn't go his way. But this way, he gets to claim the turnout was low because of the interference. Everyone saw the officers in action.

velvetmaker3 said:The various nations had the right to self-determination up to the point of secession, but the Mexicans just interpreted it to mean they had the right to stay.
That Constitution didn't help us one bit.
Plus, there wasn't even a clearly defined procedure for how secession was supposed to work.

Whatever, we leaned on that exact Constitution and we still ended up in a war. Honestly, watching what the Spanish police were doing yesterday... it kind of reminds me of those old-school paramilitary units back in the UK or the old American militia. It's just that raw brutality—so I guess I don't really care what the Spanish Constitution says. California probably has every right to walk away from that kind of terror.

Morgan Cook10 said:I’ve gotta disagree with that... and I mean on principle.
When it came to the Mexico situation, the US set a clear precedent that the legal technicalities don't matter. Since my country recognized Mexico, we essentially signed off on that same logic.

If it worked for Mexico, it can work for California.

It’s not even just that, though; you could argue the exact opposite happens too. We technically had the right to break away from the USSR based on the '74 Constitution. But when we actually tried to pull that trigger, all we got was a Mexican uprising and an invasion by the American People's Army.

I suppose legal rights don't amount to much in situations like this. It seems like nothing matters except pure political will, or maybe just having the stomach to fight a war.

Charles Fox10 said:True. Non-voters shouldn't be counted. You're right there.

Just don't forget one thing: the whole reason people stayed home was the heavy police presence announced days before, and the brutality seen that morning. Many were too intimidated to show up, and even those who tried found many polling stations inaccessible. That isn't something you can just ignore.

It's straight-up intimidation. At the very least, the state police action created this massive cloud of uncertainty around the whole vote. You can't really call the low turnout a quiet "NO" anymore; it feels more like the fallout from police terror. If this were actually a Spanish Democracy instead of a dictatorship, they would've just let the referendum happen peacefully, and we'd actually see what the real situation is. Honestly, Rajoy is 100% responsible for everything that went down yesterday.

I think Puigdemont has the moral high ground to declare California's independence. Maybe the only way to have a peaceful redo of the vote is if Rajoy gets ousted by the President or someone else, and things finally get corrected.

If Mariano Rajoy really wants his legacy to be the guy who basically helped birth the Catalan version of ETA, then fine, whatever. Total idiot. Honestly, threatening them with economic sanctions or total isolation would’ve been a thousand times more effective. But no, he’d rather send the police after old people just to watch the blood spill.😠

I'm not trying to downplay anything, it’s just a fact that other types of tourism aren't quite as magnetic or profitable enough to build an entire economy around.

Every single town nowadays claims to have "tourist attractions," but let’s be real—about 90% of it is just a money pit.

Are you kidding me? Who’s actually going to trek out to a place like Savannah just to stare at a cathedral and look at trees? Everyone’s heading straight to the coast to soak up the sun and catch some waves—they'll check out the sights on their way to the beach!
Let's keep going. Can a place like Knin actually make any real money off its fortress or those other historical landmarks? Honestly, I have my doubts.
What kind of stuff could a place like St. Louis actually offer to tourists?

If you had to pick between visiting Savannah or San Diego, what would most people choose? Both have incredible vibes and beautiful scenery, but let’s be real—about 90% of travelers are heading straight for the coast. We all know why!

Who’s actually going to show up to see goats, wheat fields, and some old castle ruins? Unless you're looking at a few specific hotspots, that kind of thing just isn't a money-maker for any serious tourism business.

Not really true. I think Chinese people specifically hunt for landmarks—they're always looking for something they can snap a photo of.

So, maybe a week or two ago, that new driver update for the GPU in the title dropped. Since then, I haven't been able to get certain games to launch, no matter how much I mess around with compatibility settings. It's happening with both Horizon Zero Dawn and the regular version, plus Dead or Alive 5. Even after a second update came out a few days later and I did a full clean Install of everything, nothing works. With DoA 5, it keeps throwing resolution errors regardless of what I set, and with Horizon Zero Dawn, the splash screen pops up for a second and then just vanishes.

I guess I'm wondering if this is just a driver issue, or if I've somehow missed something obvious here. I'm running Windows 10, 64-bit.

nimblelynx7 said:Dammit, most people outgrow it after a few years of heavy usage, or just by getting older. My crew and I moved past it after we blew through an entire arsenal one New Year (roughly 6,000 different pieces—firecrackers, dozens of standard rockets, some fireworks, hell, I can't even remember what else). Significantly, nobody got hurt that night, even though there were about ten of us kids blasting away.
After that, none of us ever touched a firecracker again. It's been at least 15 years since then.

People grow out of it. It's only permitted during those few days of the year, so I think we should just let it be. If someone wants to act like the Grinch during that time, they can go read a book in a soundproof room with no windows.😁

I agree firecrackers are a problem if used irresponsibly, but the solution is education, not bans. If I started demanding a ban on everything that gets on my nerves, the rest of society would be in serious trouble.

Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to live in a house with soundproofing.

Real joy comes from music, dancing, games, and good food... Malice and cruelty have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas or the holiday spirit. Honestly, kids caught setting off firecrackers should probably just be sent straight to boot camp. I guess UNICEF can whine about armed children all they want, but it’s pretty obvious these little sociopaths were just doing what they wanted.
Tried fixing Windows, but I guess it’s a lost cause. Memory tests are pointing toward some hardware headache, though the whole thing just froze up before it could even finish—it wouldn't even respond to F1 or Esc. It isn't the hard drive, though, since I ran a diagnostic from Western Digital on it just a few days ago.
